Background / History

Zoro was already training at Koushirou’s dojo when Locke arrived in Shimotsuki Village. At the time, he was eight years old and had challenged Kuina 1,888 times without a single victory. Kuina’s effortless defeat of him did not discourage him; he immediately declared that he would defeat her someday. 6

Zoro took an immediate interest in Locke, first arguing with him over being called a child and then demanding a duel. Locke defeated him by breaking both of his bamboo swords, but Zoro dismissed the loss as the fault of his weapons. He then revealed himself as Locke’s new roommate. 6 7
