Background / History

Enel ruled God Island on Sky Island and displaced Gan Fall from the position of “god” four years before his confrontation with Rogge’s crew. His rule was enforced through his priests and the threat of his enormous Mantra range. 73 81

When Rogge’s crew entered God Island, Enel appeared after the priests were defeated. He offered the crew a chance to serve him, then attacked when Jelly mocked his claim to godhood. His lightning overwhelmed most of the crew, but Ham’s Seastone gauntlets and Cook’s Fish-Man Karate allowed the group to injure him. Enel ultimately defeated the crew until Rogge intervened. 78 79 80

Rogge’s Chop-Chop Fruit could shatter Enel’s elemental body and lightning attacks, making him the first opponent Enel could not simply overwhelm through Logia intangibility. Rogge also knew that Endless Vearth was the moon and was aware of Enel’s unfinished spaceship. Their confrontation became a wager: the loser would become the other’s subordinate. 80

Enel reached his Thunder God form during the battle, but Rogge awakened Armament Haki and defeated him with the Obliteration kick. Rogge prevented Wiper from killing the unconscious Enel and later forced him to choose between death and joining the Asura Pirates. Enel surrendered after being restrained with Seastone. 82 84

After joining the crew, Enel helped complete the Ark Maxim, the unfinished flying ship built to reach Endless Vearth. He powered the Ark with his own electricity and traveled with Rogge to the moon. Finding it barren and unsuitable for habitation, Enel abandoned his search for his ancestors and agreed to return with Rogge to the Blue Sea. 85 88

In the New World, Enel’s strength and role expanded. He trained with Rogge, awakened Armament Haki, and became the leader of the Asura Pirates’ Thunder God Fleet.
