History

Big Mom Pirates

Katakuri was Charlotte Linlin’s favored son and the foremost of her Sweet Commanders. Before fighting Rogge, he had a reputation for never having been defeated 169 172. He protected a Jade City Treasure map from attackers while transporting it for the Big Mom Pirates 159.

Katakuri first confronted Rogge after the latter killed Klester, a trafficker whose associates had commercial ties to Totto Land. Katakuri defended the Big Mom Pirates’ interests rather than Klester personally. Their fight began with a clash of Conqueror’s Haki, then became a one-on-one battle that ended when both stopped attacking 172 174.

A year later, Katakuri intercepted Rogge beneath Jade City and demanded the duel Rogge had promised him 211. Both fighters survived attacks that appeared decisive, but Rogge ultimately defeated Katakuri in a full-power fight, ending his undefeated record 215 217.

The Charlotte Family Pirates

After the Big Mom Pirates lost a war against the Asura Pirates, Katakuri and Perospero managed Totto Land while Linlin withdrew in grief 316. Katakuri continued defending his siblings during a later battle, fighting through severe wounds to give Brûlée and others time to escape 314.

When Rogge killed Linlin, Katakuri asked to bury her 375. He then led roughly twenty surviving Charlotte Family members into the Asura Pirates, forming the Charlotte Family Pirates while retaining control of Totto Land. He chose submission to protect his family and homeland rather than continue a war he could not win 376 377. He subsequently appeared commanding a fleet for Rogge 417.

Appearance

Katakuri is over five meters tall and wears a scarf that conceals his chin 172 173.

• His eyes emit a red light when he uses future sight in battle 173.
• He can reshape his mochi body to produce additional arms and spiked limbs 173 215.

Personality

Katakuri is calm and duty-bound, but takes pride in his strength. He accepted the prospect of fighting Rogge and Enel together, yet bristled when Queen repeated the mocking name “Katakuri Two” 172 181. In his final exchange with Rogge beneath Jade City, he chose to meet a dangerous charge directly rather than evade it 215.

Protecting his family is his overriding concern. He fought while badly wounded to cover his siblings’ escape, and after Linlin’s death he put Totto Land’s survival ahead of revenge. He had long wanted independence from his mother’s control 314 377.

Mochi Devil Fruit

Katakuri possesses an awakened Special Paramecia ability that lets him transform and manipulate his body as mochi 169 173.

• He can reshape his body around attacks and reform after being cut apart; Enel’s lightning did not prevent his head from reforming, though the electricity briefly restrained him 172 173.
• He can create extra limbs. In one fight, he formed six additional arms and attacked Rogge with eight mochi-coated arms 173.
• His awakening turns surrounding material into mochi, allowing him to attack from the battlefield itself. Documented techniques include Nine-Headed Mochi, Mirror Mochi, and Mochi Assassination 214 215.

Haki

• Observation Haki — Lets him see several dozen seconds into the future, anticipate attacks and intercept opponents 169 170 211. Foresight does not make every attack avoidable; Rogge’s shockwave still struck him after he predicted it 215.
• Armament Haki — Strengthens his strikes and defenses. He had trained it for more than forty years by his first fight with Rogge and later used full-body coating to survive Spatial Separation 173 215.
• Conqueror’s Haki — His clash with Rogge knocked out weaker spectators around their first confrontation 172.

Close Combat

• Katakuri combines speed, reach and mochi-formed limbs to pressure opponents at close range. He uses Rokushiki-enhanced movement 173.
• He fights with a trident named Mole and can conceal much of it within his body 173 181.

Relationships

• Charlotte Linlin — His mother and former captain. After her death, Katakuri sought to bury her, then chose to protect her remaining family and territory 169 375 377.
• Marshall Rogge — Former rival who ended his undefeated record and later killed Linlin. Katakuri accepted Rogge’s authority to preserve Totto Land 217 377.
• Charlotte Cracker — Brother and fellow Sweet Commander; Cracker stood with Katakuri after Linlin’s death 172 375.
• Charlotte Brûlée — Sister whom he urged to flee while he held off attackers 314.
• Charlotte Perospero — Brother with whom he managed Totto Land after its defeat. Perospero later left with other relatives rather than remain with Katakuri 316 375.
• Charlotte Pudding — Followed Katakuri into Rogge’s organization; Katakuri later handed her over at Rogge’s request to screen pirates for spies 397.
• Enel — Opposed Katakuri in the Asura–Big Mom Pirates war and later joined Cook in overwhelming him 308 314.
