Background

Retirement from piracy

Shakuyaku retired as Pirate Empress and relinquished command of the Kuja Pirates to Toritoma. Despite Toritoma’s concerns over the Marines and the danger of entering Rocks Pirates territory, Shakuyaku chose Hachinosu as the destination for her new life. 8

During the Kuja Pirates’ voyage, Rock descended onto the Perfume Yuda seeking passage to Hachinosu. After he effortlessly incapacitated more than a hundred Kuja warriors and their sea serpents with lightning, Shakuyaku pragmatically agreed to take him there. 8 9

Arrival at Hachinosu

Shakuyaku’s arrival on Hachinosu drew an overwhelming reaction from the island’s pirates, who mourned her retirement and treated her as an object of near-religious admiration. She calmly announced that she intended to live on the island for a time. 10

She witnessed Rock’s battles with Kaido and Shiki from Hachinosu, later concluding that he was “a monstrous boy” who would change the era. 11 12 15
