Roger captains the Oro Jackson during the old era. While sailing the Grand Line, he learns that Shakuyaku has opened a bar on Hachinosu and immediately orders his crew to sail for the Rocks Pirates’ stronghold, despite its danger. 21

Before reaching Hachinosu, Roger senses Rock approaching from the sky and attacks with Divine Departure. Rock counters with 100 Million Volts: Divine Judgment, and their clash tears open the sea and creates a massive shockwave. 21 Recognizing that Rock carries no killing intent, Roger abruptly ends the confrontation and invites him aboard for drinks. 22

After reaching Laugh Tale, he discovers the hidden history connected to Joy Boy, concludes that his crew arrived too early, and names the island Laugh Tale. 193 207 The world subsequently recognizes him as the Pirate King and misreports his name as “Gold Roger,” while referring to the treasure associated with his achievement as the “One Piece.” 208

Before Roger reaches the end, Rock persuades Sengoku, Tsuru, and Zephyr not to stop his voyage. He predicts that the Roger Pirates will disband after accomplishing their goal and that competition over the Pirate King’s title will turn ambitious pirates against one another, allowing the Marines to concentrate on protecting civilians and trade routes. 206

Posthumous Legacy

Roger’s final declaration inspires spectators and people across the world to pursue the One Piece. Rock immediately attempts to contain its consequences by enclosing Loguetown in a lightning barrier, then overseeing a public defeat of the notorious pirates gathered there.
