Background / History

Kaido encounters the newly reborn Lynn in the wilderness after surviving a failed suicide attempt from a height of ten thousand meters. Initially dismissing the infant as abandoned, he casually kills a venomous snake threatening him by flicking a stone. Lynn’s ensuing burst of top-tier Conqueror’s Haki overturns Kaido’s indifference; he recognizes its potential as greater than any Haki he has previously witnessed. 1

Convinced that Lynn is the heir he wants, Kaido adopts him immediately, gives him the name “Lynn,” and carries him to Onigashima in his azure dragon form. Before the Beasts Pirates, he declares Lynn his son and future inheritor, then orders the child to display his Haki to the crew. 2

After Lynn’s battle at G-58 Island, Kaido returns to Onigashima in a rage upon hearing that his son fainted. His fury turns into disbelief and delighted pride after Sasaki and King explain that Lynn repelled the Marines, defeated Dobberman, and terrified the remaining Vice Admirals into retreat. 11 12

Kaido later witnesses Lynn master the Eighth Gate, kick him through Onigashima’s structures, and injure him with Amaterasu. Rather than resent the attacks, Kaido celebrates each demonstration as proof that Lynn may surpass him. He subsequently orders the Beasts Pirates to give Lynn their finest resources and treat his safety as the organization’s highest priority. 14 15 17

Following Lynn’s victories over Doflamingo and Gild Tesoro, Kaido proudly celebrates his son’s three-billion-Beli bounty and agrees to take him to the planned meeting between Whitebeard and Shanks. His arrival turns the meeting into a confrontation among three Emperors. 39 40

Appearance

Kaido is an enormous, imposing man whose presence is repeatedly compared to a mountain. He can transform into a gigantic azure Eastern dragon. 1 2

Despite his brutality, Kaido displays unusually protective and affectionate behavior toward Lynn. He handles the infant carefully, panics when Lynn disappears or collapses, personally provides him with resources, and threatens anyone who intends him harm. 2 11 17 24
