Power Progression

The most detailed documented Spirit Ring progression belongs to Huang Yun.

Acquisition History

Huang Yun hunted his first three Soul Beasts alone during years of travel. His early strategy relied on extreme speed, lethal weapons, ambushes, and retreating from enemies he could not immediately defeat; all three of his initial rings exceeded ordinary absorption expectations 1.

His fourth ring came from a Thundercloud Lightning Falcon in Thunder Canyon. Huang Yun used repeated Teleportation and Raikiri to exploit the flying Soul Beast’s brief delay while changing direction, then absorbed its black Ten-Thousand-Year ring with unusually high compatibility 8.

For his fifth ring, Huang Yun separated a more than 20,000-year Thunder Shadow Eagle from its companions before killing it with Teleportation, Clones, Lightning, and Raikiri. The ring’s violent lightning energy was endured through his strengthened meridians and Indestructible Vajra Body 19 20.

His sixth ring came from a 50,000-year Thunder Roc descended from the Kunpeng bloodline. The absorption fused that bloodline into the Lightning Falcon Martial Soul, evolving it into the demigod-rank Thunder Roc Falcon 61 62.

Dugu Bo assisted the sixth-ring hunt in the ancient Thunderclap Ruins of Sunset Forest. Huang Yun selected the Thunder Roc to add control to his existing acceleration, teleportation, cloning, domain, and single-target attack abilities. While Dugu Bo drew the beast out and engaged it, Huang Yun studied its flight pattern and killed it with a precise Dragon Fang Knuckle Duster strike beneath its neck 61 62.

Unlike his earlier rings, Huang Yun’s seventh ring was not taken from a slain Soul Beast. It naturally condensed from the newly awakened Thunder Kunpeng bloodline after the Aromatic Silk Beauty completed his Martial Soul’s evolution to divine rank 72.

The Thunder Kunpeng’s first inheritance trial subsequently upgraded his existing rings rather than supplying another ring. After a year of thunder-source tempering, each ring gained 50,000 years of age. His first three rings changed to black, his sixth reached the red 100,000-year category, and his seventh remained red, producing a five-black, two-red configuration 111.

Other Acquisition Methods

• Soul Beast sacrifice: Ah Rou willingly sacrificed herself to become Bibi Dong’s Spirit Ring in exchange for Xiao Wu being allowed to leave safely 136.
• Divine trials: Qian Renxue recalled that Qian Daoliu had obtained his 100,000-year ring through elevation by the Angel Nine Trials rather than by absorbing a 100,000-year Soul Beast’s ring when becoming a Titled Douluo 130.
• Hunting transformed Soul Beasts: Bibi Dong intended to capture Xiao Wu, a transformed 100,000-year Soft Bone Rabbit, and imprison her for eventual use as a Spirit Ring for her second Martial Soul. She considered the accompanying 100,000-year Soul Bone valuable even without perfect attribute compatibility 136.

Manifestation and Function

• Huang Yun’s initial three-ring configuration was yellow, purple, purple: 500 years, 1,000 years, and 5,000 years respectively 1.
• By Rank 43, his fourth ring was black and bore moving arc-like patterns associated with a Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Beast 9.
• Following his seventh-ring evolution, his visible configuration became yellow, purple, purple, black, black, black, red 72.
• After the first Thunder Kunpeng trial, his configuration became black, black, black, black, black, red, red. All seven rings were at least Ten-Thousand-Year rings, with the sixth and seventh in the Hundred-Thousand-Year category 111 129.
• Absorbing compatible rings can provide more than Soul Power: Huang Yun inherited flight instincts, aerial-combat knowledge, and lightning control from the Thundercloud Lightning Falcon, and later gained fragments of the Thunder Shadow Eagle’s hunting and explosive-movement instincts 8 20.
• Ring absorption can also alter the bearer’s body and Martial Soul. The fourth ring reforged Huang Yun’s wings and increased flight speed, while the sixth ring triggered the Lightning Falcon’s evolution into the Thunder Roc Falcon 8 62.
• The Thunder Roc Falcon evolution doubled the effects of Huang Yun’s existing soul skills on top of their previous foundations 63.
• Spirit Rings can be withdrawn or selectively concealed. With the control provided by the divine-rank Thunder Kunpeng, Huang Yun hid his seventh ring while displaying his first six and emitting Soul Emperor-level fluctuations 72 102.
• Displaying or activating Spirit Rings is not necessary for all combat. Huang Yun defeated Shrek’s students through physical skill and lightning control without revealing a ring, and evaded the Balak Team’s combined attacks without activating any rings 80 83 90.

Age and Color

Ringless Creatures in the Ruins

The kingdom’s ruins contained creatures resembling Soul Beasts that left no Spirit Rings when killed. Huang Yun first noticed this after annihilating Yin Evil Beetles with Thunder Prison, and the anomaly extended to a creature approximately 50,000 years old 105 107.

Qian Renxue stated that Spirit Hall’s Angel Clan records contained no precedent for such an occurrence. She reasoned that genuine Soul Beasts should leave rings regardless of corruption and suspected that the creatures were constructs produced by the ruin, possessing Soul Beast forms and attacks but lacking their souls or essence. This remained an interpretation rather than a confirmed explanation 107.

Absorption Requirements and Limits

Spirit Ring absorption exposes the Soul Master to the ring’s energy and, in the case of powerful rings, the dead beast’s resentment. A ring beyond the bearer’s capacity can destroy the meridians and scatter the soul. Huang Yun’s success therefore depends on more than cultivation rank alone 7 10 20 62.

• Physical resilience: Tough meridians and a strong physique allow the body to contain violent ring energy. Huang Yun credited his early above-limit absorptions with progressively adapting his body to greater pressure 10 20.
• Soul Power quality and compatibility: Huang Yun identified pure Soul Power and compatible attributes as key factors. His fourth ring’s shared lightning and flying nature enabled near-total utilization of its energy 8 10.
• Mental resistance: Huang Yun considered his powerful soul and Mental Power, strengthened by having lived two lives, sufficient to withstand the resentment associated with a Ten-Thousand-Year ring 7.
• Body tempering: The Indestructible Vajra Body, Whale Rubber, lightning tempering, and the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well collectively supported his absorption of the 50,000-year sixth ring 63.
• Ring age: Older rings contain fiercer energy and can confer an advantage through the strength and pressure associated with their age 20 41.

Documented Absorption Benchmarks

These ordinary benchmarks did not account for Huang Yun’s later innate ring or inheritance rewards. His 100,000-year seventh ring condensed internally, and his 100,000-year sixth ring resulted from upgrading an already absorbed 50,000-year ring 72 111.

Huang Yun's Spirit-Ring Abilities

First Soul Skill: Lightning

Huang Yun transforms into a streak of lightning, using the skill for acceleration, evasion, pursuit, and high-speed strikes.

• Initially increased his speed by 600% 1.
• Its enhancement rose to 1,200% after acquiring the fourth ring, then to 2,400% after absorbing the fifth 8 20.
• Huang Yun commonly combines Lightning with Raikiri to turn his speed into a piercing offensive force 4 26.
• The Thunder Roc Falcon evolution subsequently doubled the effects of all his soul skills, including Lightning 63.

Second Soul Skill: Teleportation

Teleportation lets Huang Yun instantly cross space while ignoring obstacles.

• Its initial range was 300 meters and it could be repeatedly used as long as he had sufficient Soul Power 1.
• The range increased to 400 meters with Thundercloud, then to 500 meters after the fifth ring 8 20.
• Huang Yun uses it to evade attacks, close distance against airborne prey, scout dangerous locations, and escape pursuit 2 8 21.
• He also uses it for ordinary movement, including transporting himself and Dugu Yan from a rooftop back to bed 125.

Third Soul Skill: Clone

Clone creates multiple bodies equal in strength to Huang Yun.

• Initially produced nine clones, for ten bodies including the original 1.
• Huang Yun can shift his true body among the clones; as long as the clones are not all destroyed, he is not truly killed 1.
• The fifth ring increased the skill to ten clones, creating eleven bodies in total 20.
• Its principal uses are deception, escape, distraction, and creating openings for Raikiri or other finishing strikes 1 62.
• During the Heaven Dou treasury infiltration, Huang Yun sent a clone to seize the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud. The body pierced by the Golden Marshal’s spear shattered into blue-white motes rather than leaving a corpse 49.

Fourth Soul Skill: Thundercloud

Thundercloud creates an electrically charged domain under Huang Yun’s control.

• Its original coverage radius was 400 meters; this later expanded to 500 meters 8 20.
• Within the domain, Huang Yun’s strength, speed, defense, and reactions double 8.
• It improves Lightning and Teleportation, reduces Soul Power consumption, and steadily restores his stamina and Mental Power 8.
• Huang Yun can sustain high-intensity fighting inside Thundercloud for far longer than opponents of the same rank 8.
• After the sixth-ring evolution, Huang Yun assessed that combining Thundercloud with Thunder Prison could extend the latter’s range to several thousand meters and double its paralysis intensity again 63.

Fifth Soul Skill: Thunder Shadow Instant Kill

Thunder Shadow Instant Kill is a single-target charge and assassination skill inherited from the Thunder Shadow Eagle.

• Huang Yun locks onto a target within 500 meters, instantly charges to it, and delivers a piercing strike 20.
• The attack carries black lightning with a paralyzing effect 20.
• The fifth ring also removed the recovery interval between Huang Yun’s explosive bursts of speed, allowing repeated full-power movement 20.
• Huang Yun used it to evade a bald Soul Emperor’s attack and pierce his heart, demonstrating its effectiveness against an opponent of a higher major rank 27.

Sixth Soul Skill: Thunder Prison

Thunder Prison was gained from the 50,000-year Thunder Roc ring.

• It is a domain-type ability that can stack with both Thundercloud and the later Thunder God Domain 72.
• After Huang Yun’s Martial Soul evolved, its power became more than twice as strong as when Dugu Bo had previously tested it 65.
• Huang Yun maintained the skill long enough to wear down the 20,000-year Man Faced Demon Spider King before Dugu Bo delivered the killing blow 65.
• During exploration of the kingdom’s ruins, Thunder Prison spread as a golden-purple lightning ring over a 1,200-meter radius, reducing every Yin Evil Beetle within the underground hall to ash 105.
• Its associated sixth ring later became a red 100,000-year ring through the first Thunder Kunpeng trial’s age-increase reward 111 129.

Seventh Soul Skill: Thunder Kunpeng True Body

Thunder Kunpeng True Body is the ability of Huang Yun’s naturally condensed 100,000-year seventh ring.

• Huang Yun transforms into the true form of the Thunder Kunpeng 72.
• The transformation greatly increases his speed, strength, and defense 72.
• In this state, he can contend with Titled Douluo-level opponents 72.
• The red seventh ring is symbiotic with the Thunder Kunpeng Martial Soul and continues growing as Huang Yun becomes stronger 72.
• Against a Clear Sky Sect Soul Douluo, Huang Yun’s transformed wings covered hundreds of meters, golden lightning coiled around his body, and he unfolded his three domains together 74.
• Huang Yun later used the transformation’s divine-beast pressure to force the Vajra Giant Spider to submit before forming a blood-based Thunder Kunpeng seal contract with it 97.

Innate Ability: Thunder God Domain

Thunder God Domain awakened alongside the Thunder Kunpeng and is distinct from Huang Yun’s numbered Spirit Ring skills.

• At awakening, it increased Huang Yun’s attributes sixfold while suppressing enemies by the same degree 72.
• The domain can summon heavenly thunder 72.
• It can stack with Thundercloud and Thunder Prison for greater battlefield control 72.
• After the first Thunder Kunpeng trial, its amplification reached ninefold 111.

Public Recognition and Significance

Huang Yun’s unusual ring configuration repeatedly challenged conventional expectations. Zhu Zhuyun withdrew after seeing his black fourth ring, while Zhu Zhuqing questioned how a Soul Ancestor could survive absorbing it. Huang Yun explained his success through physical resilience, Soul Power quality, attribute compatibility, and progressive adaptation to above-limit rings 10.

After his seventh ring formed, its pressure could oppose Tang Hao’s nine-ring aura directly. Tang Hao was shocked by the combination of Huang Yun’s youth, Soul Saint cultivation, and 100,000-year seventh ring, and suspected that he had an undisclosed powerful background 81.

At the Continental Advanced Spirit Master Elite Tournament, Huang Yun publicly revealed his upgraded five-black, two-red configuration while confronting Qian Renxue. The sixth and seventh rings’ 100,000-year auras caused widespread disbelief, while spectators questioned how even his earliest rings had become black 129.

• Yu Xiaogang, who had earlier suggested that Huang Yun’s Soul Saint claim relied on a Simulation Soul Skill, reacted to the revealed rings by declaring them incompatible with his understanding of Martial Soul Theory and speculating about Twin Martial Souls 121 130.
• Zhu Zhuqing recognized that Huang Yun’s ring ages had increased and that his Martial Soul had changed since their earlier encounter 130.
• Qian Renxue suspected that his advancement was connected to a divine test obtained in the ruins 130.
• Ning Fengzhi and Chen Xin regarded the configuration as unprecedented in their experience, including among past Spirit Hall pontiffs 130.
