Background / History

Ao Hong was once regarded as the likely future master of the East Sea Dragon Palace. His father, Ao Guang, favored him from childhood, fostering lasting resentment in his elder brother Ao Zhong. 575

Three centuries before his return to the Dragon Palace, Ao Hong rejected a political marriage to the West Sea Dragon King’s eleventh princess because he loved Ying’er, a gifted jellyfish spirit. Ying’er’s lowly bloodline made their relationship unacceptable to Ao Guang. After Ying’er was imprisoned to force his compliance, Ao Hong rescued her and fled the palace with her. Demons later captured Ying’er; Ao Hong returned and knelt for three days seeking aid, but received only her remnant soul. He withdrew to Reed Flower Palace for three hundred years, estranged from the Dragon Palace and burdened by grief. 577

Ao Hong reunites with Shen Luo inside the demonized Kunpeng’s body, where he encourages cooperation and proposes investigating the mysterious Golden Pagoda for a route of escape. 358 Later, Tong Guan captures him to exploit his dragon body and treasures, prompting Shen Luo to risk his own life in a rescue attempt. 377 378

The Yinglong Soul merges with him, raising his strength to nearly the peak of the True Immortal Realm and establishing him as the new East Sea Dragon King. 599 600

Four Seas Betrayal and the Ancestral Dragon Soul

Ao Hong opposes Ao Qin, Ao Run, and Ao Shun after they murder Ao Guang and attempt to use the Blood-Seeking Nine-Chi Pearl to summon the Ancestral Dragon. 1410 1412 He cooperates closely with Shen Luo in the battle for the Dragon Palace treasury, using restraint techniques and speed-enhancing arts to keep Ao Qin from stopping Shen Luo. 1413

The Ancestral Dragon Soul later attempts to use Ao Hong as a vessel for rebirth.
