Background / History
The Star Luo Emperor ruled through the empire’s tradition of ruthless succession, in which princes fought for survival and the throne. Dai Mubai later concludes that the Emperor deliberately fostered discord between his sons; after his retirement, the former Emperor admits that he would have instigated strife between Dai Mubai and Dai Weisi if none had arisen naturally. 55 161
When Dai Mubai returned to Star Luo City, the Emperor received him at the palace and permitted the Throne Succession War to begin. He was outwardly composed but deeply struck by Dai Mubai’s growth from Level 25 to Level 48 in three years, recognizing a talent far beyond his own youthful achievements. 52 53 After Dai Weisi’s death, he formally named Dai Mubai Crown Prince. 57
Despite granting Dai Mubai the captured members of Dai Weisi’s faction, the Emperor’s actions only worsened his son’s distrust. Dai Mubai regarded the gesture as political manipulation rather than paternal goodwill. 55
During Spirit Hall’s investigation into Hu Liena’s assassination, the Emperor forcefully rejected an envoy’s unsupported insinuations against Star Luo. He ordered the envoy removed and declared that Bibi Dong could question him personally if she wished. Privately, however, he considered whether Dai Mubai could have been involved before dismissing the possibility because Hu Liena had been guarded by two Titled Douluo. 125
When Dai Mubai challenged him for the throne, the Emperor accepted and prepared seriously for the duel. The decisive battle was held at the ruined temple in the Starry Forest where Star Luo succession battles traditionally occurred. 139 144 152
The Emperor fused with the Empress into the Hell White Tiger and fought Dai Mubai and Zhu Zhuqing for an entire day and night. Forced to reveal a trump card he had intended to reserve for his own father, he ultimately lost when Dai Mubai and Zhu Zhuqing’s God-Ranked Netherworld White Tiger Break shattered the Hell White Tiger. He then recognized Dai Mubai as the new Star Luo Emperor. 154 156 158 159
Following his abdication, he entered the Forbidden Ground in accordance with imperial custom. There, now called the Starry Great Emperor, he explained the empire’s hidden forces and the isolation imposed on retired rulers. 160 161
Personality
The Emperor is composed and restrained in public. He conceals surprise at Dai Mubai’s abnormal cultivation speed, remains calm while receiving the throne challenge, and handles Spirit Hall’s envoy without yielding to intimidation. 53 125 151
He is also proud, battle-hungry, and shaped by Star Luo’s belief that strength legitimizes rule. He welcomes the chance to test Dai Mubai, refuses to accept defeat easily, and considers the throne a position that must be earned through overwhelming power. 154 156
His paternal concern is complicated by political calculation. Though he recognizes Dai Mubai’s ability and ultimately yields the throne, his acceptance of—or participation in—the imperial family’s fratricidal succession system leaves Dai Mubai distrustful of him. 55 159 161
