After hearing this information, Su Mu had basically confirmed it.
The timeline matched up, so there was probably no mistake.
To avoid making Jiang Nannan's mother anxious and uncomfortable, everyone left the room and sat around the stone table in the middle of the courtyard.
Jiang Nannan's face was ashen. She could not believe that her family had offended someone badly enough to suffer such retaliation.
"Then what do we do now?"
Jiang Nannan murmured, not knowing what to do.
Su Mu gripped the bulging bag of Gold Soul Coins at his waist.
He had kept these hundred-odd Gold Soul Coins on him these past few days.
He considered that his own Soul Power might be useless, but Soul Power at the Titled Douluo level should be able to do it.
But since they had already been targeted, the other side might not let this go.
Unless he revealed his Titled Douluo trump card, but that could easily put him in danger.
The combat power of a Titled Douluo was not something he could summon whenever he wanted.
After all, he had no money right now. If he had a million Gold Soul Coins, he could have an employee stationed there long-term!
"Why not come with us to Heaven Dou City's Inner City first?"
"It isn't safe here anymore. It's dangerous for Auntie to stay here."
"We have a rented courtyard in Heaven Dou City with several empty rooms. It's in the Inner City too, so Auntie can receive better care."
"But we don't have any money."
Jiang Nannan's ears drooped, and she looked dejected.
Her family had never had much money to begin with, and she only had a few Gold Soul Coins left.
Most of it had probably been spent earlier on awakening Su Mu's Martial Soul.
Three years of work-study earnings had not amounted to much.
Tang Ya patted Jiang Nannan's shoulder and comforted her. "Oh, don't worry. We're good friends."
"Besides, don't you have a friend like me?"
"If you don't have enough money, I'll help pay for Auntie's treatment. I'll cover part of it."
Hearing that, Jiang Nannan did not shy away from accepting.
After all, this was the only way she could save her mother.
"Thank you, Tang Ya. If there's ever anything I can help you with, I'll definitely do it."
Jiang Nannan said this.
Bei Bei and Tang Ya exchanged glances and smiled in relief.
This was what true friendship should look like.
Bei Bei stood up and said, "Since it's settled, I'll head into the city to call for a carriage."
"The sooner we bring Auntie in, the less danger there will be. The longer we stay out here, the more dangerous it gets."
Bei Bei said as he prepared to rise.
But Su Mu stood up. "Brother Bei Bei, I'll go get it. I'll be faster on my bike."
With that, he walked out of the room and let out a long breath.
Seeing the three still discussing matters in the courtyard, he walked over to the food cart by himself.
Su Mu took another long breath and activated his Soul Power. The vehicle slowly began moving forward.
Whether it was Jiang Nannan or her mother, neither of them had treated him badly.
The problem was with him. Because of what had happened between his father and them, Su Mu had always harbored resentment.
But now that he knew the full story, he could not stand by and ignore this.
Jiang Nannan's mother had looked after him for a year or two, after all.
As Su Mu thought this, the food cart sped along the muddy dirt road toward Heaven Dou City.
Without a carriage pass for Heaven Dou City's Inner City, vehicles could not enter.
So Su Mu could only park the cart near the Modification Factory and ask the owner inside to watch it.
But the moment he parked, several renovation workers rushed over.
"Hey, little brother, where have you been these past two days?"
"If you hadn't come back soon, all your business would have been stolen."
Old James spoke in his usual extremely flat tone.
Su Mu looked around but did not notice anything unusual.
"What happened recently? Did something happen?"
Su Mu asked.
Monkey, who had helped settle the dispute with the Red Fang Gang at the stall before, immediately stepped forward. "You don't know?"
"You haven't set up your stall these past two days. We were wondering if you'd already been dealt with."
"Now, the Red Fang Gang has opened no fewer than three fried chicken shops in Heaven Dou City's outer district. They sell things almost exactly like yours."
"Although we've tried them, and they don't taste as good as yours, they're cheaper. Plus, they already have proper storefronts."
Following the direction Monkey pointed, Su Mu spotted a pale red sign glowing under the reflected light at a distant street corner.
The three large characters "KFC?" were written on it.
The entrance was packed with people.
Su Mu had no mood to deal with such matters right now.
Even if they copied him, they could not copy the essence of fast food.
Let them do as they pleased. He was not worried about this at all.
"By the way, Master James, do you know where I can rent a carriage that can enter the Inner City?"
"I've never rented one before, so I'm not too familiar with it."
"Also, where's your boss, Sister Fei'er?"
Su Mu looked around but did not spot Fei'er, leaving him somewhat puzzled.
Old James vaguely replied, "Sister Fei'er took the other renovation workers to Wasteland City to scavenge scrap. She probably won't be back for a day or two."
"If you want to rent a carriage that can enter the Inner City, you can check the rental shop not far ahead. It's right across from that KFC place."
Su Mu followed the direction Old James pointed, bid him farewell, and headed over.
Along the way, he saw many people carrying containers of fried fries, though their quality was nowhere near his.
Looking at the somewhat burnt-yellow fries, he analyzed them. The oil was not fresh, unlike his, which was automatically refreshed every day.
They had also been fried too long, so there had to be a sour, bitter taste inside.
He then looked at a burger nearby.
The bun was soft but had no springiness at all. It crumbled at the slightest touch.
The sesame seeds on top were raw, not properly toasted, so they could not bring out the nutty fragrance of sesame.
As for the meat inside, there was even less to say. The entire patty had been fried dry, with no juices left when bitten into.
With products like that, they wanted to compete with him?
He walked past the taunting Red Fang Gang lackeys and entered the carriage rental shop.
For one Silver Soul Coin, he successfully rented a carriage and chose a relatively comfortable cushioned seat.
He then drove his motorcycle again, towing the carriage back to Free-Range Chicken Village.
As soon as he arrived, he saw that everyone had almost finished packing their belongings.
Seeing this, Su Mu waited for them to load the carriage.
He then went to his own small courtyard.
Looking at the well that was rarely used for drawing water, he lifted the well cover.
As the rope slowly rose, a thick Iron Bow appeared in his hands.
The bow was slightly black overall. It had been maintained with high-quality engine oil, making it less likely to break or rust.
The bowstring was made from the sinew of a Soul Beast.
Other than the Gold Soul Coins, this was the most valuable thing in the house.
Su Mu looked at the iron arrows he had pulled up from the bamboo tube. There were a full hundred of them.
His father had left them behind for him. Perhaps he had hoped Su Mu would inherit his craft and become a hunter with exceptional archery skills.
Su Mu drew the bow and loosed an arrow. The black arrow silently shot into the door panel, piercing through it and burying itself inside the room.
He clenched his fists and felt the strength within his body.
After becoming a Soul Master and gaining a Soul Ring, his physical attributes had received an astonishing boost. He was now on roughly the same level as his father had been back then.
He picked up the arrow that had fallen into the room and walked outside.
Dressed in a fitted black outfit, with the black bow and iron arrows, he carried an air of grim killing intent.
Bei Bei and Tang Ya were both briefly stunned.
Jiang Nannan stared blankly as well.
She had never seen Su Mu dressed so handsomely before.
Normally, he almost always wore clothes that had been washed until they faded white. She had rarely seen him in such an entirely black outfit!
"Let's go, everyone. I don't think we'll be able to come back for quite some time after we leave."
"I can take this bow for protection too. After all, as a healing-type Soul Master, I don't have any offensive abilities."
Su Mu slung the bow over his back.
The hundred Gold Soul Coins in his pocket, along with a Titled Douluo he could summon at any time.
He spread his hands. Perfectly reasonable. This was truly perfectly reasonable.
