Awakening and Arranged Engagement

Jiang Nannan grew up next door to Su Mu. His father paid for her Martial Soul awakening, and their fathers arranged a marriage between them. She subsequently studied in Heaven Dou City for three years, returning to the village only occasionally. Her work-study earnings remained limited 2 3 18.

Su Mu initially resented her because he associated his father’s disappearance and presumed death with the help given to her family. When she brought him ten Gold Soul Coins for his own awakening, he suspected that her dinner invitation would lead to their engagement being broken. Instead, her mother proposed confirming the engagement and postponing marriage until they were old enough 2 3.

That night, Jiang Nannan secretly visited Su Mu’s father’s cenotaph, burned spirit money, and thanked him for changing her future. She promised to support Su Mu’s choices and cultivate diligently enough to protect him. Su Mu overheard her, prompting him to reconsider his judgment of her 4.

Shrek Recommendation and Soul Ring Expedition

Jiang Nannan received her academy’s recommendation slot for Shrek after a stronger student gained admission elsewhere. With the new term approaching, she wanted to spend more time with Su Mu and help his business before leaving. She also urged him not to neglect cultivation 11.

She recruited Tang Ya and Bei Bei to help obtain Su Mu’s first Soul Ring. During their Star Dou Great Forest expedition, she prepared provisions, guarded the rear, helped rescue him after his fall into a lake, and protected him during the final hunt. She then became the first recipient of his new Blue Silver Vine Ring healing skill 12 14 15.

Her Mother’s Poisoning

After the expedition, Jiang Nannan’s mother began coughing up dark, foamy blood. Su Mu stabilized her with his Life Attribute but could not remove the harmful Soul Power lodged in her chest. He suspected a deliberate attack connected to the Xuanming Sect and its ritual requiring a highly gifted girl; this connection remained his inference rather than a confirmed identification of the attacker 17.

Unable to afford treatment herself, Jiang Nannan accepted Tang Ya’s financial help. The group moved her mother to an Inner City courtyard, where Jiang Nannan cared for her and maintained the household. A five-ring Soul King failed to cure the extreme-cold and extreme-water Martial Soul poison 18 19 21 22.

Elder Zhuang eventually cured her mother and warned that the poison appeared to have been deliberately injected. Bei Bei arranged to bring Mother Jiang to Shrek City for safety as the group prepared to leave Heaven Dou City 31.

Jiang Nannan expresses gratitude through practical assistance. She gives Su Mu the money needed for his awakening, helps with chores and expedition supplies, and privately honors his father. Even when Su Mu claims to lack cultivation talent, she accepts the prospect of an ordinary life rather than rejecting their engagement 2 3 4 12.

She is protective and cautious about money attracting danger. After learning how much Su Mu earned, she warns him not to let the villagers discover it and immediately checks their surroundings. Her concern extends to encouraging his cultivation despite knowing how hard he works at his stall 11.

Romantic attention easily flusters her. Su Mu’s suggestion that she could be his “eyes” and “brain” overwhelms her, while Tang Ya’s teasing makes her hurriedly deny liking him and then correct herself.
