Background / History

Sal was originally a man from Earth who died after falling from a mountain. The Myriad Worlds System transported him into the world of One Piece, copied Gol D. Roger’s body, recovered Roger’s remnant soul, and fused that soul into Sal’s own. He inherited most of Roger’s memories, combat experience, swordsmanship, taijutsu, Haki knowledge, and Conqueror’s Haki, but retained his own identity. 1

The copied body initially possessed Roger’s talent but not Roger’s physical power. Sal explicitly distinguishes himself from the original Roger, even while Roger’s memories and lingering emotions affect his judgment—particularly regarding Portgas D. Rouge and Ace. 1 11 115

At Sabaody, his appearance, voice, knowledge of the Roger Pirates, and unmistakable Conqueror’s Haki caused Silvers Rayleigh to suspect that Roger had somehow returned. During the Marineford War, Sengoku, Garp, Whitebeard, Shanks, and the world at large increasingly accepted him as the resurrected Pirate King. Sal eventually allowed the identity to stand publicly rather than attempt an impossible explanation. 10 45 49 52

Following Whitebeard’s death, Sal accepted responsibility for Whitebeard’s territories and absorbed the Whitebeard Remnants into the Sal Pirates. His organization gained thirty-seven subordinate crews and nearly ten thousand pirates, establishing him as a major Emperor-level force. 59 77 78

Appearance

Sal possesses the youthful body copied from Gol D. Roger, making him nearly indistinguishable from the Pirate King to Roger’s former allies and enemies. 1 10 45

  • Handsome, slightly sunny-looking face. 1
  • Bright black, short hair and pitch-black eyes. 1
  • Athletic, heavily muscled physique. 115
  • Resembles Roger in appearance, voice, mannerisms, and Haki. 10 45
  • Can use Heaven and Earth Manifestation to become a silver-white giant several thousand meters tall. 187 219

Personality

Sal is opportunistic, calculating, and highly aware of the political value of Roger’s reputation. He repeatedly exploits public shock, broadcasts, and emotional reactions to strengthen himself through the Myriad Worlds System. 45 54 183

Despite his pragmatism, he is strongly hostile toward slave traders and Celestial Dragons, killing traffickers and the nobles Charlos and Roswald without hesitation. He also supports liberation efforts against the World Government, including the Revolutionary Army’s campaign at Tequila Wolf. 2 8 171 175

Roger’s memories give Sal a complicated emotional connection to Rouge, Ace, Rayleigh, and Roger’s unfinished legacy. He respects Roger’s achievements but condemns Roger’s failures as Rouge’s husband and Ace’s father. 11 59 115

Abilities & Skills

Myriad Worlds System

The system grants experience from positive and negative emotions directed toward Sal, Fate Points for altering significant people’s destinies, and lottery rewards from other worlds. 1

  • Levels improve his physical attributes, recovery, Haki, and access to system enhancements. 13 54 187
  • Fate Points can be spent on lotteries ranging from White to Gold rank. 1
  • His public identity as Roger is especially effective at generating mass emotional reactions. 45 54
  • The system’s rewards include weapons, resurrection artifacts, magical items, techniques, and protective tools. 13 74 203

Conqueror’s Haki

Sal inherited Roger’s uniquely recognizable Conqueror’s Haki, which former associates identify as identical in nature to the Pirate King’s. 1 10 45 49

  • Can incapacitate large groups of Marines and pirates with a burst of Haki. 10
  • Uses Conqueror’s Coating for direct combat and sword techniques. 49 53
  • Can create a Haki domain that suppresses an opponent’s Conqueror’s Haki range. 117
  • Reached the Ascension stage and gained Observation Kill by Level 101. 187
  • Full output originally risked destroying his weak copied body; this limitation diminished as he leveled and used Roger’s blade Ace. 1 49

Observation Haki

Sal began with Primary Observation Haki but developed it to Peak level, including the Voice of All Things. 1 49 187

  • Predicts attacks and battlefield movements. 13 49
  • Anticipated Vice Admiral Stainless’s strike before killing him. 49
  • Supports his ability to evade Pacifista lasers and Kizaru’s attacks. 13

Armament Haki

Sal developed from having no Armament Haki to Peak-level mastery. 1 65 187

  • Reinforces his body, weapons, and sword attacks. 13
  • Combines with Conqueror’s Coating to clash with Garp, Kaido, and other top-tier fighters. 53 117

Swordsmanship

Roger’s swordsmanship is Sal’s strongest inherited combat discipline, honed through the original Roger’s decades of experience. 1

  • Divine Departure — Roger’s signature Conqueror’s Haki-infused sword strike; clashed evenly with Garp’s Galaxy Impact and was used against Kaido and Shanks. 53 76 117
  • Sea Severing — Haki-infused slash that cut a Pacifista in half. 13
  • Mountain Crusher — Sword technique used to sever a Pacifista’s hand. 13
  • Divine Departure: Sky Wing — Sword attack that severely wounded Marcus Luke and overwhelmed his incomplete Conqueror’s Coating. 175

Giant Tribe Techniques

Sal gained instant mastery of Giant Tribe combat techniques through a purple system draw. 74

  • Hakai — Long-range, wide-area shockwave attack that does not require Conqueror’s Haki. 74
  • Hakai overwhelmed Kaido’s Three Realms: Ragnarok and later broke through Shanks’s Divine Departure. 76 118
  • Hakunoku — Acquired alongside Hakai, though its specific use is not documented. 74

Heaven and Earth Manifestation

A transformation technique that enlarges Sal into a giant silver-white godlike form. 187 219

  • Reached nearly 5,000 meters after training. 187
  • Grants overwhelming physical scale and strength; he defeated Bullet’s five-hundred-meter Large Bullet Form by throwing it into the sea. 219
  • Drains stamina and can fully exhaust his Armament and Conqueror’s Haki after use. 177

Dragon-Flame Abilities

The completed Primordial Red Dragon equipment set grants Sal powerful dragon-flame techniques. 116 117

  • Breath of Destruction — Magical dragon-flame blast capable of creating massive craters and contesting Kaido’s Bolo Breath. 117
  • The set increased his physical strength by 50% when first completed. 116
  • Its fire immunity can nullify Flame-Flame Fruit attacks, as demonstrated against Ace. 230

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Ace — Roger’s Supreme Grade Blade. Its accumulated will and power can temporarily amplify Sal close to Roger’s prime strength. 48 49
  • Tessaiga: Human Special Edition — A white fang-shaped demon sword stronger than a Supreme Grade Blade; its Wind Scar can generate a sword-energy cyclone with an estimated twenty-kilometer range. 203 218
  • Primordial Red Dragon Set — Shirt, leather pants, belt, gloves, and helmet; enhances physical power, grants fire immunity, and enables dragon-flame attacks. 116 187 230
  • Chain of Heaven — Space-associated binding weapon used to delay Kaido’s Three Realms: Ragnarok. 118 187
  • Substitute Puppet — Sacrificial protective item that activated when Kizaru’s full-power Light-Speed Kick would otherwise have been fatal. 13
  • Life-Extending Pills — Used to restore Rayleigh’s youth and later offered to Golden Lion Shiki. 74 119
  • Monster Reborn: Filial Son Special Edition — Resurrection artifact capable of reviving a dead parent, with a guaranteed beneficial change to the revived person. 203
