Background / History
Roy was a senior disciple of Sword Intent Hall under Yadu Nisse, later revealed as Longliang. Nisse regarded Roy as the disciple with the strongest fundamentals and assigned him to oversee Werther’s initial swordsmanship training. 6
At first, Roy viewed Werther as a potentially lucrative partner because of the money their intelligence dealings could produce. Werther’s determination, courtesy, and willingness to endure punishing training changed that impression into respect. The two later sold intelligence together repeatedly, earning more than one million Beli. 6 9
Roy was married to fellow disciple Olivia An. He and Werther developed a close, teasing senior-junior bond, reinforced when Roy retrieved Werther from Arabella Island after his survival training. 9 13
As a member of Sword Hall’s assassination organization, Roy supervised Werther’s first mission against slave trafficker Steve Louis and his family. He was disturbed by Werther and An’s fascination with mutilation and torture, often acting as the comparatively restrained member of the group. 14 16
The Stuart family’s return reignited Roy’s deep hatred over their past attack on Sword Hall, which killed an eight-year-old child and left members of the hall badly injured. Roy wanted immediate revenge, but Longliang restrained his impulsiveness. 17
During the Stuart family’s ambush on Sword Hall, Roy was mortally wounded with an axe embedded in his chest. Before dying in Werther’s arms, he asked for memorable wine, burial beside An, and a worthy successor for An’s sword, Blood Scorpion. 18
Appearance
Roy was a lean, middle-aged man slightly over 1.6 meters tall, with blue hair tied into a braid. 6
- Often wore a warm but somewhat sleazy-looking smile. 6
- His short stature and appearance initially made Werther doubt that he was a capable swordsman. 6
- Could become visibly serious and grim when confronting the Stuart family or matters involving his family. 17
Personality
Roy was teasing, crude, and fond of provoking Werther, but his humor concealed a disciplined and dependable instructor. He trained Werther harshly, forcing him to overcome fear, exhaustion, and poor stamina rather than allowing him to rely on excuses. 6 8
He was initially motivated by the money Werther’s information could provide, yet he came to recognize Werther’s maturity and resolve. Their relationship became openly brotherly, expressed through insults, drinking, and a fist bump rather than direct sentimentality. 6 13
Despite working as an assassin, Roy retained stronger moral discomfort than Werther or An. He objected to their gruesome behavior during the Steve Louis mission and was horrified by how naturally Werther embraced brutality. 16 His grief and recklessness over the Stuart family also showed his intense loyalty to his loved ones and Sword Hall. 17 18

- Olivia An — Wife and fellow Sword Hall disciple. Roy’s final request was to be buried beside her and to find a worthy bearer for her sword, Blood Scorpion. 9 18
- Longliang / Yadu Nisse — Master of Sword Hall. Longliang entrusted Roy with Werther’s foundational training and later restrained Roy’s desire to pursue the Stuarts recklessly. 6 17
- Unnamed daughter — Roy’s young daughter, whom he mourned while dying; he regretted the life he had led as an assassin. 18
- Stuart family — Roy’s sworn enemies after their conflict with Sword Hall resulted in the death of a child and severe injuries to Sword Hall members. 17
