Momonga's decision to retreat and dump the blame on him had clearly infuriated Tony. As he told the story, Tony threw the blame right back more than once.
Lord Momonga was the one who'd sent Simon and the others out to sea. He was the one who'd forgotten to contact them along the way, and when something went wrong, he was the one who hadn't gone looking!
In short, it had nothing to do with Tony.
It was all Lord Momonga's fault.
Even so, Tony made sure to stress to Loa that Simon and the others really were fine. Their Vivre Cards proved it!
After all, Loa had made a military pledge. If something had happened to Simon and the others, he would face serious consequences when he returned.
And knowing that petty Ice bastard, if Loa suffered, Tony and Momonga—the two culprits—could imagine what would happen to them.
"Vivre Cards?" Hearing Tony's explanation, Loa breathed a little easier.
They weren't just his comrades. They were Zephyr's students!
What had happened years ago had already left a shadow over Zephyr's heart that would never fade. If he lost another group of students, even under Loa's watch, he and Loa might not become enemies, but they would likely never speak again.
The Den Den Mushi was loud. Shanks and the others heard everything Loa heard.
Shanks put on a sly expression and slung an arm around Benn Beckman's shoulders. "Hey, Benn Beckman. Hear that? The kid made a military pledge!"
"So what are you planning?"
For some reason, a wave of helplessness rose in Benn Beckman's heart.
His captain knew right from wrong when it mattered, but could be a complete idiot over the little things. Beckman had long since grown tired of it.
"Heh, heh, heh!" Shanks grinned wickedly. "Sure,
