Ch. 341Fishing for Crocodiles!
Plot points and events
- Drake uses his Marine combat skills and dinosaur transformation to attack Absalom. Absalom survives several near-fatal strikes by revealing a strange ability to flatten his body into a narrow strip and slip away.
- Gecko Moria arrives and reassures Absalom. He taunts Drake, then uses Shadow Revolution to seize control of one of Drake’s soldiers and make the man attack his own commander.
- Drake recognizes the danger of facing both Moria and the hard-to-hit Ghost Princess, and worries that his side may lose if the battle continues.
- The focus shifts to Jones, who enters Rain Dinners disguised as a gambler. He plans to steal the huge sum Crocodile needs to buy Dance Powder, betting that the loss will provoke Crocodile into pursuing him into the desert.
- Jones’s real objective is to draw Crocodile away from his base; Loa cannot reveal himself without jeopardizing the larger plan.
Character developments and interactions
- Drake is shown as experienced, decisive, and ruthless in combat, but Moria’s arrival and control of Drake’s soldier expose how outmatched his side may be.
- Absalom is badly injured and forced to rely on his unusual body-altering ability. He apologizes to Moria, who comforts him rather than blaming him.
- Moria remains confident and mocking, presenting himself as a threat through both his presence and his control over shadows.
- Jones demonstrates strategic thinking: rather than relying on a simple insult to bait Crocodile, he targets the money central to Crocodile’s plans.
Significant themes
- Strategy and deception: Both sides rely on misdirection—Moria’s shadow control, Absalom’s unexpected ability, and Jones’s disguise and financial trap.
- Power and vulnerability: Strong fighters can still be endangered by unfamiliar abilities or shifting battlefield conditions.
- Reputation versus reality: Crocodile’s popularity among Rain Dinners’ guests contrasts with his criminal plans behind the scenes.
