Hane expanded the Empire across worlds while Subaru, Makomo, and their allies faced threats in their own. The volume ended with the Empire partnering with the Hero Association as Tornado’s group prepared to hunt two Dragon-level Monsters.

Arc 17Subaru’s Trial in a New World

Hane brought Subaru Natsuki into a new world, trained him, and helped him face the dangers surrounding Emilia. Subaru proved his strength in the Royal Capital, but his impulsive defense of Emilia cost him his place among the knights and left their relationship strained.

  • Hane welcomed the surviving Zodiac girls into his Empire, then entered Subaru’s world and took Subaru as his disciple.
  • Subaru joined Hane in the search for Emilia’s insignia, fought the Bowel Hunter, and survived with Hane’s intervention.
  • At Roswaal’s manor, Hane trained Subaru in physical combat and Chakra while secretly reviving Rem after a curse killed her.
  • Subaru, Rem, and Ram entered the Demon Beast Forest to rescue missing children, and Subaru summoned the Tailed Beasts to defeat the pack.
  • Beatrice accepted Hane’s contract and transformed into a Spirit Queen, while Subaru returned safely with the children and the Tailed Beasts.

Arc 18The Empire’s Conquest

Subaru overcame the trials surrounding Emilia and reunited with her, while Hane brought the witches under his protection and began a war of unification. The Empire conquered the Dragon Kingdom and launched an assault on the Kantins Empire, whose ministers turned to the true dragons after their defenses fell.

  • Hane established an Imperial foothold beneath the God Tree’s barrier, while Subaru awakened new powers through repeated deaths and Hane kept the Empire outside the world’s reset.
  • Subaru secured Crusch and Anata’s support, defeated the White Whale, and returned to Emilia, where he protected her from Elsa and helped save the village from Meili’s attack.
  • Subaru entered the Holy Land, resisted Echidna and the witches’ plan to use Return by Death, and reunited with Emilia after Hane revealed the Witch of Envy’s sacrifice.
  • Hane brought the witches under his protection and ordered the Empire to advance, while Uchiha Retsuyō’s forces invaded the Dragon Kingdom’s Royal Capital and defeated Reinhard and True Dragon Haslu.

Arc 19Makomo’s Sword and the Upper Ranks

Hane trained Makomo and her junior disciples, and Makomo’s swordsmanship led her into the Demon Slayer Corps’ fight against the Twelve Kizuki. After Hane rescued her junior disciples from Doma, Makomo secured the Shogunate’s support for the Corps, while Muzan filled the vacant Upper Rank position with Nakime.

  • Hane reunited Subaru Natsuki with his parents in the Underworld Bureaucracy, then married Rem three years later and entered the Demon Slayer world to experience mortal life.
  • Hane taught swordsmanship to a group of orphaned children, and Makomo stayed behind to master his techniques after her junior disciples left to pursue their own path.
  • Makomo left the mountain, obtained the sword Cherry Blossom Snow, and defeated a demon before battling Akaza with her extraordinary swordsmanship.
  • Kanae arrived to investigate the fight, and Makomo nearly killed Akaza with a freezing sword style before he escaped at dawn.
  • Makomo joined the Demon Slayer Corps, demonstrated her swordsmanship to the Hashira, and agreed to teach them her new style.

Arc 20The Empire’s Arrival

Hane ended Muzan’s threat and took Makomo to another world, where he established the Empire beneath a God Tree. After defeating Saitama and bringing the Hero Association into partnership with the Empire, the story left Tornado’s group preparing to hunt two Dragon-level Monsters with Ace’s guild.

  • Muzan ordered the Twelve Kizuki to attack the Shogunate, but Xunri and the Hashira fought them, and Hane rescued Makomo from Kokushibo before Muzan withdrew the surviving demons.
  • Tamayo and Yushiro became human, the Shogunate exposed and executed the demon emperor, and Hane killed Muzan’s remaining allies before the Kamado family left their mountain home.
  • Hane brought the captured Muzan to Tamayo, who made him swallow a Hundred-Poison Heart-Eroding Pill, then took Makomo to another world and had her destroy a rampaging Monster.
  • Hane’s group planted the God Tree, and Kaguya defeated the heroes who challenged them before Saitama arrived and lost to Hane in a battle beneath the tree.
  • Hane opened a portal and brought the Empire’s soldiers and mechas into the new world, declaring its plan to reclaim territory, rebuild civilization, and establish a city.
  • The Hero Association partnered with the Empire and moved its headquarters there as millions settled in the new City A, while Orochi and Gyoro-Gyoro prepared a counterattack.
  • Ace invited Tornado’s group to join the hunt for two symbiotic Dragon-level Monsters, and Tornado accepted while insisting the Hero Association be paid in Imperial Points.
