Background

Dark Supremes were once Dao attainters who ruled their respective eras with invincible conviction. Many had formerly protected living beings, but fear of death and failure to find immortality led them to sever themselves, enter forbidden zones, and ultimately become the source of Dark Turmoils 16 18.

Many Dark Supremes originated not only from the Age of Mythology but also from the earlier Primordial Ancient Era. Having failed to find a stable route to immortality, they abandoned their former glory, cut down their own Dao foundations, and waited through successive eras for the Road to Immortality to open 14 92.

Their forbidden zones preserve them through Immortal Source, longevity substances, Dragon Veins, divine springs, Immortal Dao runes, and other ancient resources. These sanctuaries allow them to sleep through the ages while awaiting the Road to Immortality 5 6 20 42.

Some forbidden zones possess resources beyond ordinary cultivation worlds, including Immortal-Domain Immortal Source, Northern Polar Immortal Light, ancestral Dragon Veins, Divine Spring Water Veins, and remnants of Immortal Dao environments. Such resources explain how multiple Dark Supremes can coexist within a single restricted area for vast periods 6 12 13.

They are not a unified organization. Dark Supremes compete over lifespan-extending treasures, regard one another as rivals, and may attack each other over valuable prey or resources 2 32. Their alliances are generally temporary arrangements created by shared fear, greed, or the prospect of killing a stronger enemy; when survival is at stake, they readily abandon leaders and companions 125 132 135.

Appearance

Dark Supremes have no single appearance; many retain traits of the races or forms they possessed before becoming Dao attainters.

• Some appear humanoid, while others retain dragon horns, scales, feathers, fur, or other nonhuman features 6.
• Known forms include the fur-covered Supremes, the Red-Haired Supreme, the Gold-Devouring Insect, the dough-like Supreme, and the serpent- and dragon-shaped Supremes 7 8 33.
• Other known racial forms include the Fire Crow Ancient Emperor, Chaos Supreme, Xuangui, Bifang, the Heluo Fish, Netherworld Soil Sacred Spirit Emperors, and various dragon-blooded Ancient Emperors 89 96 127.
• Their self-severance, age, and failed longevity methods can leave them with decayed auras, damaged Immortal Platforms, aged bodies, or forms distorted by curses and forbidden techniques 119 173 180.
• When awakened or fighting, their auras can shake starfields, disturb the Great Dao, and cause lesser cultivators to feel like “ants” before them 12 42.

Collective Behavior

Dark Supremes are driven chiefly by survival. They seek Immortal Medicines, Chaotic Body origins, Sacred Spirit methods, longevity substances, and other means of repairing their Immortal Platforms or gaining another lifetime 7 32 42 46.

Their former pride remains intact despite their decline. Most believe that, because they once swept aside all opposition and attained the Dao, they can eventually master any longevity method they pursue 46. However, this pride is usually tempered by caution when confronting an opponent capable of permanently killing them 20.

When desperate, Dark Supremes launch Dark Turmoils, consume life-bearing worlds, and harvest the vitality of cultivators and mortals to replenish their damaged foundations or sustain Extreme Sublimation 3 4 162. They particularly covet exceptional physiques and powerful origin blood, viewing Chaotic Bodies, Sacred Spirits, and newly enlightened cultivators as resources capable of granting renewed life 1 2 119 125.

Their conduct changed substantially under Li Ming's deterrence. Many survivors chose submission, tribute, dormant concealment, or withdrawal rather than risk battle, while a minority continued waiting for his apparent decline to seize his Chaos Origin 137 164 167.

Although most remain selfish and opportunistic, some expressed reluctance to continue devouring living beings if Sacred Spirit transformation or another legitimate longevity path could free them from Dark Turmoils 119. Four decaying Dark Supremes ultimately sought Li Ming's assistance and departed for the Strange World rather than slaughtering living beings for survival 173.

Abilities & Skills

Dao-Attainer Foundation

Every Dark Supreme was once a genuine Dao attainer. Their original cultivation grants them Imperial Dao laws, immense vitality, combat experience, and the ability to wield or revive Extreme Dao Weapons 6 17.

• Can devastate planets, starfields, and regions of the Cosmic Frontier Wasteland during battle 3 18.
• May project avatars capable of temporarily displaying Dark Supreme-level power 2.
• Many possess personal scriptures, forbidden arts, curse techniques, and Great Dao manifestations 3 8.
• Their weapons and Dao laws can remain valuable resources even after their deaths 4 19.
• Some possess specialized racial abilities, including lightning control, supreme defense, fire Dao manifestations, divine-feather attacks, dragon bloodline techniques, and Yin Spirit or Netherworld powers 3 89 96 127.
• Even weakened Dark Supremes can ordinarily destroy several Extreme Dao Weapons or threaten contemporary Dao attainters when fighting at full strength 33 175.

Extreme Sublimation

A Dark Supreme can undergo Extreme Sublimation to recover a peak combat state and fully revive their weapon and Dao.

• Greatly increases combat strength, vitality, and the power of their Imperial Dao techniques 3.
• Often used only when death is otherwise unavoidable 2 8.
• Carries a severe cost: continued survival becomes difficult after sublimation, since their remaining vitality is limited 2 3.
• Multiple Dark Supremes can undergo Extreme Sublimation simultaneously and combine their Imperial Dao laws through formations, although such coalitions have repeatedly failed against Li Ming 126 164 165.
• Some burn their origins, invoke Dao Dissolution, or self-destruct alongside Extreme Sublimation in attempts to take an enemy down with them 8 34 134.

Sealing and Longevity Methods

Dark Supremes sustain themselves through self-severance, sealed slumber, and the resources of forbidden zones.

• Immortal Source can preserve a Supreme across vast periods of time 6 42.
• Dragon Veins, divine springs, Arctic Immortal Light, and Immortal Dao environments help maintain their longevity 5 6 12.
• Some investigate Sacred Spirit transformation, Chaotic Body origins, or reincarnation-like methods to repair their damaged foundations and renew their lifespans 7 42 46.
• Sacred Spirit transformation involves turning the body into a stone embryo, retaining an undying trace of true spirit, and relying on heaven and earth to nurture the new form; success can repair the Immortal Platform and restore a fresh peak state 119.
• The method is highly dangerous. Failed transformations can leave a Supreme exhausted and ravenous, prompting renewed Dark Turmoils, while successful completion may require approximately a million years of protection and cultivation 119 180.
• Other surviving Dark Supremes have explored becoming Weapon Deities, using Faith Power for transformation, or leaving for the Strange World to obtain Longevity Substance 173 207 209.

Predation and Harvesting

Dark Supremes frequently treat exceptional cultivators as longevity resources.

• Li Ming’s Chaotic Body was targeted for its origin, blood essence, flesh, bones, and potential to grant another lifetime 2 7 8.
• Several groups attempted to capture or kill him while he was newly ascended, believing a Dao attainer was most vulnerable at that stage 2.
• Their competition for the Chaotic Dragon Nest led six Dark Supremes into Li Ming’s trap 32.
• They may consume entire life-bearing planets, Saints, Quasi-Emperors, and ordinary beings to restore vitality, repair damaged Immortal Platforms, or maintain their sublimated state 4 162 180.
• The Chaotic Body Origin remains especially coveted even after a cultivator attains the Dao, as Dark Supremes believe it may reveal a route to renewed life, transformation, or immortality 123 125.

Formations and Collective Warfare

Dark Supremes can pool their Imperial Dao laws, weapons, and formations when individual combat is insufficient.

• Seven Dark Supremes used Lingbao Tianzun's First Killing Formation of All Ages, curses, Grand Dao runes, and multiple Extreme Dao Weapons to ambush Li Ming 8.
• A coalition of more than a dozen Dark Supremes used an immortal-killing formation centered on the Kunlun Immortal Bell during their siege of Li Ming 126 127.
• More than thirty Dark Supremes later deployed the Myriad Immortals Demon-Slaying Formation, combining Extreme Dao Weapons and sublimated Imperial Dao power in the greatest Dark Turmoil of the era 163 164.
• Such cooperation remains unreliable because Dark Supremes prioritize their own survival and may flee, withhold aid, or sacrifice allies once defeat becomes likely 129 135 165.

Relationships

• Li Ming / Demon Venerable — Initially regarded as a Chaotic Body to be harvested; repeated defeats turned him into the Dark Supremes’ greatest deterrent and a feared hunter of forbidden zones 2 20 34. His later staged declines repeatedly lured opportunistic Supremes into exposing themselves, resulting in mass purges and the destruction of major forbidden zones 125 162 165.
• Boundless Heavenly Venerable — His Sacred Spirit Transformation Method gave Dark Supremes a possible alternative to Dark Turmoils and self-severance 42. Boundless’s unsuccessful attempt initially made many Supremes skeptical, while Li Ming’s success gave the method renewed credibility 119.
• Emperor Zun — His successful Sacred Spirit transformation further encouraged Dark Supremes to pursue that path for renewed life 46.
• Sacred Spirit Race — Their bodies, origins, and transformation methods became targets once Dark Supremes recognized the potential of Sacred Spirit rebirth 45 46. Sacred Spirit locations, Dragon Veins, and stone embryos are also considered crucial resources for attempting the transformation 119.
• Heavenly Demonic Saber — The autonomous Immortal Weapon has killed numerous Dark Supremes independently, devoured their remains, and become one of their most feared threats 32 34 125.
• Myriad Souls Banner — Forged from the skins, bones, Dao laws, and resentment of Dark Supremes, the banner treats surviving Supremes as potential additions to itself and has forced many forbidden zones to pay tribute or surrender their own skin 131 132 137.
• Lord of Taichu — His apparent expertise in Sacred Spirit transformation made other Dark Supremes seek his judgment of Li Ming’s method, though Li Ming suspected that he had stolen his Sacred Spirit-related foundation 119. His later death deprived the Ancient Mine of Beginnings of its principal leader 131 132.
• Netherworld Venerable / Duan De — His reputation as the Underworld’s founder and an ancient Heavenly Venerable intimidates Dark Supremes, who generally avoid provoking him after witnessing his repeated rebirths and renewed Dao attainment 151 229.
• Li Fan — As Li Ming’s son, his identity initially intimidated a failed-transforming Dark Supreme; Li Fan nevertheless fought and killed the Extreme-Sublimated Supreme on his own 180 181.
• Jade Emperor — The Dark Supremes fled their restricted areas rather than confront the newly ascended Jade Emperor, chiefly because they feared that harming him would provoke Li Ming 167.
• Strange World — It became an alternative refuge for some decaying Dark Supremes seeking Longevity Substance and a chance to continue cultivating without launching a Dark Turmoil 173 193.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Hunt for Li Ming

When Li Ming attained the Dao, Dark Supremes emerged to seize what they believed was a naturally born Chaotic Body. Their avatars were destroyed, and Carefree Heavenly Venerable’s death established Li Ming as a threat beyond ordinary Dao attainters 2.

Fall of the Reincarnation Sea

Four Dark Supremes of the Reincarnation Sea fought Li Ming after he demanded control of their forbidden zone. All four were ultimately killed, and Li Ming claimed the Reincarnation Sea as his territory 3 4.

Divine Ruins Conflict

The Divine Ruins’ rulers first negotiated with Li Ming rather than risk open war. Later, Dark Supremes associated with the zone joined an ambush against him, while the remaining residents were forced to compensate him with Immortal Source, Flat Peaches, Immortal Gold, and access to their former lord’s retreat 6 8 13.

The Divine Ruins later became a symbol of Dark Supreme disunity. When Li Ming returned to demand further compensation, its inhabitants allowed their own lord to fight alone and die in exchange for their personal survival 135.

Suppression of the Forbidden Zones

Li Ming killed Longevity Heavenly Venerable, extorted the Immortal Mausoleum and Heaven Forbidden Zone, and destroyed several other restricted areas. The surviving Dark Supremes publicly submitted or remained silent while privately planning to wait for his eventual decline 19 20.

This suppression escalated into the destruction of Kunlun Mountain, Flame Mountain, the Heaven Forbidden Zone, and the Underworld, as well as repeated forced tributes from the Immortal Mausoleum, Heaven-Severing Mountain, Divine Ruins, Ancient Mine of Beginnings, and smaller restricted areas 30 90 132 134 137.

Longevity Transformation Era

Boundless Heavenly Venerable and Emperor Zun demonstrated that Sacred Spirit transformation could grant another lifetime. This discovery gave the Dark Supremes renewed hope of escaping their dependence on sealed slumber and Dark Turmoils 42 46.

Li Ming later publicly explained his own Sacred Spirit Transformation Method at the Ancient Mine of Beginnings. The gathering established the method as a credible, though slow and dangerous, route to repairing an Immortal Platform and regaining a complete life 119.

Chaotic Dragon Nest Massacre

Li Ming used the Chaotic Dragon Nest as bait after the Heavenly Demonic Saber became an Immortal Weapon. Dark Supremes competing for the nest were slaughtered by the autonomous saber, which took Li Ming’s form and caused survivors to suspect that he had discovered an unprecedented weapon-fusion longevity method 32 33 34.

Siege of the Apparent Dying Demon Venerable

When Li Ming appeared to be entering his twilight years, Dark Supremes from numerous forbidden zones emerged to seize his Chaotic Body Origin. Their first assault killed the Light Emperor instead, while subsequent coalitions deployed the Kunlun Immortal Bell, the Tongtian Nether Treasure, and immense formations against him 125 126 128.

Li Ming had deliberately used his aged appearance as bait. His eventual renewal and the death of Lord of Taichu enabled him to refine the Myriad Souls Banner from the remains of eighty-one Dark Supremes 131 132.

Greatest Dark Turmoil

Li Ming’s fabricated Sixth-Lifetime decline convinced more than thirty Dark Supremes that his Dao was collapsing. They initiated the greatest Dark Turmoil in history, slaughtering life-bearing planets and attempting to kill him with the Myriad Immortals Demon-Slaying Formation 162 163.

Li Ming destroyed the formation, killed its participants despite their Extreme Sublimation, and then hunted those who had aided the assault through avatars, weapons, or indirect attacks. The survivors became too frightened to openly challenge him 164 165.

Flight, Tribute, and the Strange World

Following the purges, major and minor forbidden zones increasingly abandoned direct resistance. Some vanished entirely when the Jade Emperor attempted to challenge them, while others submitted treasures, Immortal Gold, Immortal Medicine, or even their own skin to the Myriad Souls Banner 137 167.

A small number of decaying Dark Supremes chose a different path by requesting Li Ming’s aid in entering the Strange World. Their departure represented a temporary rejection of Dark Turmoils in favor of seeking longevity through cultivation and foreign-world resources 173.

Later Failed Transformations

Not all Dark Supremes successfully escaped their old path. A Supreme whose Sacred Spirit transformation failed destroyed his stone body, exhausted his vitality, and initiated a new Dark Turmoil before being killed by Li Fan 180.

Other surviving Dark Supremes continued experimenting with Sacred Spirit transformation, Weapon Deity conversion, Faith Power transformations, and travel to the Strange World, showing that the group’s pursuit of longevity had diversified beyond self-severance alone 209.
