Background

Zhunti first appears as one of Mount Sumeru's two leading cultivators, confronting Bo Huang after the latter mocks him. He invokes his status as a “destined Saint,” but leaves when Bo Huang threatens Mount Sumeru. 11

During Dizang's duel with Bo Huang, Zhunti intervenes to save his disciple. Bo Huang is left with a damaged Primordial Spirit, prompting Di Jun, Tai Yi, and the Three Pure Ones to hold Zhunti responsible. Zhunti endures Bo Huang's Golden Crow Burning Heaven Flame, then faces a succession of challengers led by Lao Zi. 17 18 19

After suffering repeated defeats, Zhunti becomes a target for cultivators seeking enlightenment through fighting him. Minghe challenges him while he is injured, Kunpeng defeats him after his old wounds flare up, and the Witch Clan later imprisons him in Pangu Hall as a living sparring partner. 23 25 32

Zhunti remains captive while the Ancestor Witches use combat against his Golden Body to pursue their own Dao comprehension. His resilient Bodhi Tree body is repeatedly damaged, dismembered, and used to strengthen the Witches’ physical bodies. Hong Jun learns that the Witch Clan intends to retain him for ten thousand years, while Jieyin eventually negotiates his release with future Merit as collateral. 33 35 40 45

After recovering, Zhunti and Jieyin establish the Western Sect on Mount Sumeru. Their first vow fails to grant them Saintly Might; only after making seventy-seven additional vows do they become Saints, albeit weaker ones. 49

Appearance

Zhunti is associated with a solemn, radiant Golden Body Dharma Appearance, but his actual origin is a Bodhi Tree. Damage to his divine body frequently exposes or reduces its heads and limbs. 19 33

  • Golden Body Dharma Appearance — Twenty-four heads and eighteen arms, each arm capable of wielding a weapon or treasure. 19
  • Bodhi Tree true form — Uses roots to bind opponents and displays exceptional physical resilience. 33
  • Seven-colored divine light — Emitted through the Seven Treasures Wonderful Tree. 18
  • Damaged form — Following prolonged captivity under the Witch Clan, he is reduced to an unrecognizable “lump” before Hong Jun restores his body. 48

Personality

Zhunti is proud, quick-tempered, and highly conscious of his dignity as a Saint. He reacts badly to humiliation, especially when opponents invoke his repeated defeats or display parts taken from his body. 26 126 143

He is also opportunistic and vindictive. After being abused by the Witch Clan, he plans to manipulate a Golden Crow prince into triggering conflict between the Witch and Demon clans. He later attempts to instigate rebellions, recruit disciples from rival sects, and use the Investiture of the Gods tribulation to expand the Western Sect. 53 115 171 172

Despite his impulsiveness, Zhunti is devoted to Mount Sumeru and its disciples. He intervenes personally when Dizang is endangered, seeks to recover his captured Good Corpse, and repeatedly takes risks to protect or strengthen the Western Sect. 17 126 127
