Background / History

In his previous life, Tang San was an Outer Sect disciple of the Tang Sect. He secretly entered the Scripture Pavilion, memorized prohibited Inner Sect manuals and the sole blueprint for the Buddha's Fury Tang Lotus, then returned the physical blueprint after being discovered by the elders. He subsequently leapt from a cliff, and his soul crossed into another world. 12

The Heavenly Dao identifies his reincarnated soul as an adult consciousness from birth; while his body attended Nording City's Junior Soul Master Academy as a six-year-old, his soul was already thirty-six. An unnamed Tang Sect Outer Sect elder had adopted and supported him for sixteen years in his previous life, teaching him basic concealed-weapon techniques. 12 13

At Nording Academy, Tang San met Xiao Wu and presented himself as a dependable child companion. The screen later exposes that he deliberately rehearsed childlike expressions and sought to cultivate Xiao Wu's emotional dependence. 13

By the time the Sky Screen appears, Tang San is studying at Shrek Academy and cultivating the Purple Demon Eye. His attempt to probe the Screen with the Mysterious Heaven Skill results in spiritual backlash and bleeding from all seven facial apertures. 1

Personality

Tang San publicly presents himself as loyal, righteous, and deeply devoted to his teacher. During Yu Xiaogang's exposure, he defended the Master with a lengthy public argument and declared that he would prove their path righteous through his future strength. 5 10

The Sky Screen repeatedly contrasts that image with Tang San's concealed calculations. It attributes to him a habit of judging allies and opponents by tactical value: Xiao Wu is treated in battle simulations as expendable bait, Huo Wu is spared because she may be useful, and Hu Liena is secretly assigned multiple potential methods of execution while trusting him on Hell Road. 13 14

He reacts intensely to threats against his status or control. The future development of Soul Tools leaves him fixated on technology that eclipses his concealed weapons, while Huo Yuhao's future first-place ranking makes Tang San view him as a threat rather than celebrate his achievement. 33 42

Abilities & Skills

Mysterious Heaven Skill

A Tang Sect cultivation art that Tang San uses to circulate Soul Power and spiritual power.

  • Its circulation was permanently suppressed by 15% through the Thieving Scholar's Mark. 13
  • Tang San attempted to use it to pierce the Sky Screen, but the attempt caused severe spiritual backlash. 1
  • The skill is associated with the prohibited Tang Sect arts he carried from his previous world. 12 13

Purple Demon Eye

An ocular technique used for observation and perception.

  • At the Subtlety Realm, it can see through a transformed soul beast's disguise by observing internal Soul Power and beastly phantoms. 15
  • Tang San used it to identify Xiao Wu as a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soft Bone Rabbit while they were students at Nording Academy. 15
  • His own notebook records the technique as a means of identifying juvenile transformed soul beasts. 15

Blue Silver Grass

Tang San's known martial soul and a central part of his combat style.

  • He used Blue Silver Grass to kill Shi Nian, then took Shi Nian's soul bone and storage device. 14
  • On Hell Road, he used it to destroy bloodthirsty puppets while fighting beside Hu Liena. 14
  • Yu Xiaogang's teaching concerning Blue Silver Grass was part of Tang San's public defense of his teacher. 5

Tang Sect Arts and Concealed Weapons

Tang San retained knowledge of Tang Sect techniques and weapon designs from his previous life.

  • He memorized the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record, Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon, Mysterious Jade Hand, and the blueprint for the Buddha's Fury Tang Lotus. 12
  • He distributed concealed weapons including sleeve arrows, a miniature Pear Blossom Storm, and poisoned throwing darts to Zhu Zhuqing. 15
  • Ning Fengzhi concludes that Tang San's weapon knowledge was transferred from the Tang Sect rather than independently invented. 12

Tactical Analysis

The Screen portrays Tang San as an exceptionally methodical planner.

  • He developed combat simulations that designated Xiao Wu as bait against stronger opponents. 13
  • He prepared seventeen methods to kill Hu Liena during their joint passage through Hell Road. 14
  • He evaluated Ma Hongjun as a disposable combat piece and Oscar as a dependent logistical-support unit when distributing immortal herbs. 16

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Buddha's Fury Tang Lotus blueprint — the Tang Sect's highest forbidden concealed-weapon design; Tang San returned the sole physical copy after apparently memorizing it. 12
  • Hidden weapons — includes sleeve arrows, poisoned darts, and a miniature imitation Pear Blossom Storm. 15
  • Martial Soul Notes: Basic Volume — contains detailed red-marked notes on identifying transformed Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts. 15
  • Immortal herbs — Tang San retained the Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass and Infernal Delicate Apricot, both identified as having no side effects and exceptional body- and martial-soul-enhancing potential. 16

Relationships

  • Tang Hao — father. Tang San initially defended him as a righteous protector, but his faith collapses after the Sky Screen alleges that Tang Hao engineered Ah Yin's sacrifice and concealed her survival. 21 22
  • Ah Yin — mother and a Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor. Tang San learns that she is alive after twenty years of abandonment in a waterfall cave. 22
  • Yu Xiaogang — teacher. Tang San repeatedly defends Yu Xiaogang's theories and character despite the Master's exposure as a plagiarist. 5 10 13
  • Xiao Wu — Shrek companion and transformed Hundred-Thousand-Year Soft Bone Rabbit. The Screen exposes Tang San's alleged plan to wait for her maturation and sacrifice, though he later vows to die protecting her when her identity becomes public. 13 15 29
  • Dai Mubai, Oscar, Ma Hongjun, Zhu Zhuqing, and Ning Rongrong — Shrek companions whose trust fractures following the revelations. Oscar and Ma Hongjun formally withdraw, while Dai Mubai cuts ties with Tang San. 11 16
  • Hu Liena — Hell Road partner who knew him as Tang Yin. She trusted him deeply, while the Screen reveals his secret plans to kill her; she later remains emotionally attached to Tang Yin. 14 23
  • Huo Wu — tournament rival. Tang San protected her from her own self-destructive attack, leading to her public kiss and eventual romantic attachment; the Screen also reveals he had considered killing her if she lacked future value. 14 24
  • Tang Wutong — future daughter, identified by the Sea God trident mark, Clear Sky Hammer, and the Sky Screen's later confirmation. 41
  • Tang Sect Outer Sect Elder — unnamed adoptive elder from Tang San's previous life who fed, housed, and trained him for sixteen years. 12
  • Bibi Dong — adversary who issues Spirit Hall's highest-level kill order after learning Tang San is a future Sea God. 11

Story Role / Major Arcs

Hypocrite Rankings

Tang San's public defense of Yu Xiaogang draws attention immediately before the first-place reveal. The Heavenly Dao then identifies Tang San as the continent's No. 1 hypocrite, exposing his future foundation of the Tang Sect, Sea God inheritance, destruction of Spirit Hall, and ten-thousand-year monopoly over Douluo Star's fortune. 10 11

Tang Sect Past-Life Exposure

The Screen reveals Tang San's prior identity, theft of forbidden Tang Sect knowledge, cliff death, and reincarnation. His argument that Inner Sect restrictions justified his actions loses support after the screen shows the Outer Sect elder who raised him. 12

Xiao Wu and the Shrek Collapse

Tang San receives the permanent Thieving Scholar's Mark as the Screen reveals his manipulation of Xiao Wu. Later revelations about Xiao Wu's soul-beast identity, his alleged intention to obtain her soul ring and soul bone, and the hidden dangers of the herbs he distributed cause the Shrek Seven Devils to disintegrate. 13 15 16

Double Standards Collection

The Screen exposes Tang San killing and looting Shi Nian, weighing Huo Wu's life against her usefulness, planning Hu Liena's death, and destroying Killing Capital by poisoning its water supply. Tang Chen states that the destruction also released imprisoned criminals, worsening violence across the continent. 14

Family Truth

Tang San initially rejects the True Villains Ranking's accusations against Tang Hao. He is then forced to confront evidence that Ah Yin's sacrifice was manipulated and that she survived as a dormant Blue Silver Emperor seed. 21 22

Future-Era Revelations

The Peerless Tang Sect rankings challenge Tang San's pride in concealed weapons when Kong Deming's Soul Tools effortlessly annihilate three Titled Douluo. Tang San later reacts possessively to the revelation of his future daughter Tang Wutong and distrustfully to Huo Yuhao surpassing her as the future era's strongest figure. 33 41 42
