Stolen research and public reputation

Yu Xiaogang built his reputation as the author of the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul and presented the work as the product of decades of research. When questioned by a young soul master, he directed the student back to his own text before privately consulting a stolen Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan research fragment for the answer. 5

The Sky Curtain revealed that Yu stole thirteen clan texts and sold eight on the black market. The Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan expelled him from its core circle, reduced his allowance, and later confirmed the records publicly. 5

He also received privileged access to Spirit Hall’s Library Pavilion as a Special Envoy. Using a Saintess Token, he borrowed confidential archives forty-seven times over three years; one documented night saw him copy seventeen restricted volumes. 5 6

A later Sky Screen exhibition placed all ten volumes of his theories beside their archival sources, marking the copied passages throughout. It identified his martial soul mutation principles as material taken from Spirit Hall’s research three hundred years earlier, with failed cases removed before he presented the conclusions as his own deductions. 61

Relationship with Bibi Dong

Yu initially approached the young Bibi Dong because she possessed Twin Martial Souls, stood to inherit the papacy, and could grant access to Spirit Hall’s knowledge. He repeatedly staged “chance encounters,” cultivated her sympathy, and recorded that maintaining her affection would provide further confidential texts. 7

Bibi Dong trusted him with restricted research on Twin Martial Souls and martial soul mutations. After Qian Xunji opposed their relationship, Yu fled Spirit City with copied documents and without informing Bibi Dong. 7

After leaving, Yu sent Qian Xunji a letter offering to sever his connection to Bibi Dong while seeking favor for himself. When the letter was exposed, he defended his departure as necessary self-preservation and claimed that continuing his theoretical research was his greatest possible contribution to Soul Masters. Bibi Dong countered that he had never trained an ordinary, non-genius commoner into someone capable of changing the Soul Master world. 9

The beauty-ranking broadcast revisited his promises of lifelong love to Bibi Dong, followed by his commitment to Liu Erlong, and separately exposed Qian Xunji’s abuse of Bibi Dong. The renewed broadcast intensified public contempt toward Yu in Nuoding City. 31

Golden Iron Triangle and Liu Erlong

After leaving Spirit City, Yu arrived at Blue Tyrant Academy and presented himself to Liu Erlong and Flender as a tragic exile. The three later became the Golden Iron Triangle: Flender provided offense and support, Liu Erlong fought at the front, and Yu directed their tactics from the rear. 7 8

Liu Erlong fell in love with Yu after he planned her training and helped advance her strength. Their wedding was interrupted when Yu Yuanzhen revealed that they were close blood relatives; Yu recoiled, abandoned Liu Erlong before the guests, and fled. 8 26

Liu Erlong waited for him for twenty years. When they reunited, Yu refused to acknowledge her as a partner while accepting her academy’s resources and care, claiming their bond should remain “spiritual.” The Heavenly Dao determined that his abandonment was motivated by fear for his reputation rather than concern for Liu Erlong or clan honor. 8

The later beauty-ranking review explicitly identified Liu Erlong as his cousin and again condemned him for leaving her to bear the pain and infamy of their relationship alone. Flender continued to regard the blood relationship as a genuinely painful obstacle, even while acknowledging Yu’s wrongdoing. 26 27

Personality

Yu initially presents himself as a righteous, selfless scholar. He publicly insists that his research benefits Soul Masters, describes plagiarism as “academic inheritance,” and repeatedly frames self-preservation as service to the greater good. 1 6 9

The Sky Curtain instead depicts him as calculating and evasive. He uses intellectual authority to gain admiration, exploits Bibi Dong’s trust for access to archives, benefits from Liu Erlong’s devotion without accepting responsibility, and retreats when his public standing is threatened. 7 8

Even after his exposure, Yu continues defending Tang San and rejects evidence that contradicts his theories. He insists that future exceptions—such as Triple Martial Souls and a million-year first soul ring—cannot invalidate his principles. 13 41 42

His attachment to Tang San also reflects his dependence on his student’s achievements to rehabilitate his own reputation. When the Sky Screen depicts Tang San’s defeat despite possessing two divine powers, Yu reacts with disbelief, recognizing that his remaining claim to success rests on Tang San’s victory. He dismisses the alternate Spirit Hall’s prosperity as deception and calls the commoners who believe it “brainless rabble.” 60

Yu repeatedly rationalizes coercion as education or obedience to higher authority. During the broadcast of Tang San’s divine consciousness tormenting Huo Yuhao, he argues that Huo should endure the Divine Realm’s rules and describes education as a process. Bibi Dong and Sword Douluo reject this reasoning, accusing him of making students bear the consequences and confusing instruction with violence. 68

Exposure and Punishment

Yu was revealed as the second-place entry on the Douluo Continent Hypocrite Rankings. The Sky Curtain’s evidence dismantled his reputation as an original theorist by exposing theft from the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, Spirit Hall, the Star Luo Royal Family, the Clear Sky Sect, and independent scholars. 5 6

The Heavenly Dao formally ruled that Yu’s plagiarism was proven, assessed his original theoretical contribution as zero, revoked his “Grandmaster” title, and replaced it with “Plagiarist · Yu Xiaogang.” 6

After the exposure of his treatment of Bibi Dong and Liu Erlong, the Heavenly Dao erased Yu’s emotional and memory connections to both women, leaving him with an unexplained sense of loss. 8

The subsequent display of his letter to Qian Xunji stirred faint shadows of the removed memories. Yu recalled delivering the letter and hoping to use his former relationship to secure a future for himself; this was not presented as a complete reversal of the punishment. 9

Bibi Dong subsequently ordered Ghost Douluo and 3,000 Holy Emperor Warriors to capture Yu alive and bring him before Qian Xunji’s mausoleum. At the same time, Yu Yuanzhen severed all clan ties, removed him from the genealogy, and revoked his right to use the Yu surname. Yu collapsed unconscious under the combined condemnation. 9

Blue Tyrant Academy’s teachers and students also jointly demanded his expulsion and asked Liu Erlong to rename the academy to erase its association with him. These were public demands rather than a confirmed completed expulsion. 9

Renewed scrutiny of harmful theories

During the later alternate-history feature, the Sky Screen showed a public exhibition tracing Yu’s theories to Spirit Hall’s archives and identifying omitted failures and an incorrect soul-ring age entry. Yu denounced the presentation as slander and insisted that his methods had been verified in practice. Commoner Soul Masters accused his methods of ruining their relatives’ cultivation, and stones struck his temple and shoulder. He continued claiming that Spirit Hall was conspiring to destroy his reputation. 61

Yu remained visibly wounded in the following chapter, clutching his bleeding forehead. Wang Dong challenged him and Tang San over seven deaths, while Xuan Zi and Bibi Dong produced evidence of removed manuscript restrictions. The Asura God attempted to destroy the Sky Screen and shield Tang San and Yu, but the Sky Screen repelled the divine attack and declared the god’s authority inferior to its own. 62

When Spirit Hall later brought its strengthened elders and consecrators to bear against Shrek, their pressure forced Yu to his knees. His forehead struck the stone slabs hard enough to bleed. 64

Later Sky Curtain Appearances

• Yu defended Tang San’s treatment of Xiao Wu, arguing that actions mattered more than intentions. The Heavenly Dao countered with records of Xiao Wu’s sacrifices and Tang San’s tactical simulations. 13
• He rejected the future-era claim that martial souls would cease being the only path to power, insisting that martial soul laws could not change. 33

Parallel-world counterpart: Yu Meinian

The Sky Screen’s parallel-world series introduced Yu Meinian, a female counterpart of Yu Xiaogang serving as Nuoding Junior Soul Master Academy’s chief theory instructor. Unlike Yu’s disheveled appearance, she appeared with an elegant hairstyle, a black silk qipao, and a conspicuously voluptuous figure. Liu Erlong reacted with furious jealousy, while Yu became unable to speak coherently. 75

Yu Meinian approached Tang Sanniang, the parallel-world counterpart of Tang San, and identified her hidden Twin Martial Souls. She subsequently named a Soft Bone Rabbit as Tang Sanniang’s second martial soul and ordered her to attend a midnight “full-body skeletal massage” lesson in her bedchamber. These events belong to the parallel-world broadcast, not Yu Xiaogang’s own actions or demonstrated abilities. 75

The portrayal caused Yu to spit blood and fall unconscious from his seat. Flender and Liu Erlong rushed to assist him. After Flender revived him, the parallel-world Bi Donghai—Bibi Dong’s male counterpart—ordered Yu Meinian and Tang Sanniang abducted as his “bandit brides,” causing Yu to vomit blood and faint again. 75 76

Flender continued trying to revive him while reassuring Liu Erlong that the events concerned another world. Liu Erlong herself collapsed after dwelling on Bi Donghai’s declaration, and Yu later suffered another collapse during the continuing abduction-related broadcast, with Flender scrambling to catch him. 77 79

After Tang Sanniang’s killing of Bu Le, Yu rejected Flender’s description of her behavior as a tactic and instead called it “a yandere.” He swayed and nearly fainted again. 81
