Background

Dai Mubai was the Star Luo Empire’s Third Prince and a participant in its lethal succession system, under which royal brothers fight for the throne and the loser faces death. After losing to his elder brother, Dai Weisi, he was spared on his father’s orders but expelled from the empire and forbidden from returning. 2

His engagement to Zhu Zhuqing tied both of them to the same succession struggle: victory over Dai Weisi’s pair would mean the throne, while defeat meant death. Rather than inform Zhu Zhuqing of his departure, Dai Mubai left the palace in secret without a message, letter, or token. 2 25

After reaching Suotuo City, he claimed that his flight was a strategic retreat to gain strength. The Sky Screen instead revealed years spent drinking and pursuing women at the Rose Hotel while Zhu Zhuqing, injured and pursued by assassins, crossed the empire to find him. 2 3

The imperial archive dates his unauthorized departure to the fifth day of the third month of Douluo Calendar Year 2638. Its record confirms that he neither informed Zhu Zhuqing nor left anything behind for her; she subsequently cried until she fainted outside the palace gates. 2

Appearance

Dai Mubai is a blond young man with distinctive “evil eyes.” He was shown leaving the Star Luo palace in a black cloak and later appeared in Shrek-era flashbacks with a disheveled, alcohol-soaked appearance. 2 25

Personality

Before his exposure, Dai Mubai justified his departure as a necessary retreat and portrayed his absence as being for Zhu Zhuqing’s benefit. His publicly manifested thoughts instead showed that he believed he could not defeat Dai Weisi, expected death either way, and chose immediate pleasure over cultivation or responsibility. 2 3

His treatment of Zhu Zhuqing was openly dismissive and cruel. When she arrived at Shrek after surviving pursuit, he mocked her condition, denied their supposed agreement to grow stronger together, and raised his hand as if to strike her. 3

Later revelations leave him ashamed, fearful, and remorseful. After Zhu Zhuqing rejects both his apology and his pity, he turns his guilt into a stated resolve to win the succession struggle; however, she makes clear that victory—not remorse—is what he owes her. 25 26

He retains a strong attachment to Shrek Academy. After witnessing Mu En protect the academy despite crippling injuries, he admits that he does not know whether he could endure the same circumstances, but promises to stand at the front if Shrek needs him. He also recognizes Zhou Yi’s combination of discipline and care as the conduct of a genuine teacher. 40 45

His remorse does not eliminate his royal pride or support for inherited privilege. During the hypothetical Spirit Hall victory broadcast, he condemns the destruction of royal and sect authority, disparages commoners, and insists that the existing social order must not be overturned. 59

Dai Mubai is sensitive to public humiliation. The revelation of his female parallel-world counterpart leaves him speechless and desperate to dissociate himself from the broadcast. When Ma Hongjun continues mocking him, he reacts with fury and lunges at his companion. 78 79

He can also recognize the dangers of excessive submission. While watching Huo Yuhao’s treatment by the future academy and its associated powers, he observes that every retreat invites the people around Huo Yuhao to demand still more. 67

His immediate denials collapse as the screen displays his departure, Zhu Zhuqing’s pursuit, and his life at the Rose Hotel. 2

Thought Manifestation and Political Fall

The Sky Screen reveals Dai Mubai’s private reasoning: he did not intend to return stronger, believing cultivation against Dai Weisi was futile and choosing to enjoy whatever life remained. The Star Luo Emperor suspends his succession rights, while the White Tiger Sect withdraws its support for him. 3

Spirit Hall’s seizure of the Rose Hotel accounts establishes that Dai Mubai spent more than 100,000 Gold Soul Coins over three years and was accompanied by eighty-seven women. The resulting punishment reduces his Soul Power by two levels. 3

Break with Zhu Zhuqing

Zhu Zhuqing publicly voids their engagement after the Sky Screen exposes both his abandonment and his hostile reception of her at Shrek. When her later beauty-ranking segment reveals the deadly burden she carried, Dai Mubai attempts to apologize; she refuses, stating that their connection was survival rather than love. 3 25 26

Her demand that he win leads him to resolve privately to reclaim everything and place her at the pinnacle of the Star Luo Empire, where she would no longer have to struggle merely to survive. This is a declaration of intent, not a confirmed victory or renewal of their engagement. 26

Separation from Tang San

After Tang San’s ranking as the continent’s foremost hypocrite, Dai Mubai withdraws from him with the other Shrek students. During the later collapse of the Shrek team, he formally declares that he will no longer associate with Tang San. 11 16

After posting his declaration, he climbs over the training-ground wall and leaves. His departure joins Oscar and Ma Hongjun’s withdrawals and the other students’ rejection of Tang San, leaving Tang San alone as the team’s fortune is reduced to zero. 16

Witnessing the Future Rankings

The future-powerhouse broadcasts repeatedly confront Dai Mubai with forces far beyond his own. He barely resists the Evil Eye Tyrant Overlord’s transmitted mental assault, compares his White Tiger unfavorably with Xuan Zi’s Taotie, and recognizes the devastating importance of Ye Xishui’s Death God Tower. 34 37 39

Mu En’s defense of Shrek prompts a more personal response. Asked by Tang San whether they could protect an academy under similarly devastating injuries, Dai Mubai admits uncertainty but promises that he would stand at the front if Shrek needed him. 40

Later broadcasts broaden his reactions beyond raw strength. He praises Zhou Yi’s teaching, questions Ye Guyi’s apparently contradictory holy martial soul and evil affiliation, and recognizes the Evil Fire Phoenix as both a powerful martial soul and a curse while watching Ma Xiaotao’s suffering. 45 46 47 48

Hypothetical Spirit Hall Victory

When the Sky Screen presents an alternate outcome in which Spirit Hall wins the Battle of Jialing Pass, Dai Mubai angrily condemns the possibility. He fears the destruction of Star Luo’s royal foundations and argues that commoners require the leadership of royal families and sects. 59

The hypothetical broadcast subsequently shows his defeated counterpart leaving a high-security prison with a mining pick. He protests that a Star Luo prince should not perform mining labor, but the overseer explains that he owes military grain and reparations and that the Star Luo Empire no longer exists. Zhu Zhuqing and Ning Rongrong are also shown performing labor elsewhere. This imprisonment belongs to the hypothetical outcome, not his confirmed present-day status. 61

Defeat by Yan’s Ultimate Fire

Following Spirit Hall’s Sky Screen rewards, Yan receives the Hellfire Demon King awakening and Ultimate Fire. Dai Mubai forcibly activates White Tiger Vajra Transformation, but Yan’s distant punch grazes his shoulder and immediately sets his tiger fur alight. 64

Dai Mubai rolls repeatedly on the ground to extinguish the flames, suffering extensive burns before succeeding. Oscar protests that Spirit Hall has attacked beneath the Sky Screen, but Bibi Dong openly challenges the assumption that its presence prevents them from acting. 64

Huo Yuhao’s Struggle for Autonomy

At the beginning of the renewed Peerless Tang Clan broadcast, Dai Mubai questions why a person from ten thousand years in the future deserves first place. As Huo Yuhao’s life unfolds, he identifies the pattern by which yielding to others only produces greater demands, commenting on the academy’s increasing control over Huo Yuhao’s choices. 67

Gender-Swapped Parallel World

The Sky Screen introduces Dai Xiaobai as a delicate, golden-haired Star Luo princess whose face resembles Dai Mubai’s. His confidence collapses as the broadcast pairs her with Zhu Zhuju, a powerful male counterpart of Zhu Zhuqing who insists that their political marriage cannot be refused. 78

Dai Xiaobai attempts to resist with her Evil-Eyed White Tiger, but Zhu Zhuju overpowers her, tears her dress, and carries her into a bedchamber against her protests. The broadcast closes its view at the doors. In the viewing area, Dai Mubai tries unsuccessfully to explain himself to Zhu Zhuqing and then lunges at Ma Hongjun for mocking him; Oscar has to restrain him. 78 79

Subsequent scenes show a female White Tiger Shrek teammate with long, wavy blond hair and tiger-print clothing. During the confrontation with Yu Tianjiao, this counterpart shields Tang Sanniang with White Tiger Protective Barrier, only for the lightning attack to shatter it and injure her. She then assesses the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon martial soul’s attack power and speed while watching the duel continue. 80 81 82 83

At the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, Dai Xiaobai claims the Lovesick Heartbreak Red and obtains the Heart-Slaying Sword. She confronts Tang Sanniang, activates White Tiger Possession, and threatens to kill her. Dugu Bo interrupts the clash, after which Dai Xiaobai leaves while promising to kill Tang Sanniang once she returns to normal. These events concern the broadcast’s alternate counterpart and do not grant the original Dai Mubai the sword or the immortal herb. 86
