Mechanics

• Apparition moves a caster between locations almost instantly. Roy describes the experience as spinning and being squeezed through a tube 2.
• Elias teaches Roy its three principles: Destination, Determination, and Deliberation. Directional sense and spatial awareness help a caster use it flexibly 57.
• Longer jumps consume more magic. Roy finds that crossing Britain in one jump is near his limit, while Dumbledore can travel from Scotland to Austria using a technique he does not explain 313.

Training and Use

• Roy attempts two short jumps across his room before starting Hogwarts, then stops because improper Apparition could kill him 18.
• Under Elias’s supervision, he practices between marked circles in the Forbidden Forest and nearly masters the sensation after two hours 56 57.
• Roy later uses rapid, repeated jumps to reposition during duels. He also transports passengers, but forced Side-Along Apparition tears open his ribs on more than one occasion 107 110 120 131 147.

Restrictions and Risks

• Hogwarts’s Anti-Apparition Jinx prevents Roy from Apparating on the grounds; Elias therefore needs a separate training site 18 48. A localized jinx later prevents Roy from escaping his forest safehouse 101.
• Repeated jumps can cause severe dizziness and nausea, even for Roy 213.
• Elias and Dumbledore warn Roy against using Apparition before obtaining Ministry qualifications. He nevertheless uses it without authorization 57 160 219.

Related Magic

• Phasing Charm — Roy accidentally develops this spell while experimenting with a reversed Apparition structure. It distorts the space occupied by his body instead of transporting him, letting ordinary attacks pass through him 216 218.
• Phasing’s side effect — Its spatial distortion produces dizziness comparable to Apparating several times per second. Roy eventually counters the effect with auxiliary equipment rather than removing it from the spell 274 298.
