Her voice came from ahead, indifferent and cold.
"It means nothing to me."

Evan completely ignored the female assistant's contempt.
His mouth hung open, his incisors still frantically tearing and grinding at the wound on that crimson tentacle.
Foul-smelling blood mixed with the remnants of the Blood-Burning Potion in his mouth, sent into the wound mouthful by mouthful.
The female assistant did not care.
Her running pace did not slow in the slightest, and her posture was as calm as if victory were already in her grasp.
"I advise you to stop struggling."
Her voice came from ahead, steady and cool, without the slightest hint of panting.
"I have already investigated your background."
"Your family is a branch of the Mason Family."
Evan's biting motion paused slightly.
"Your ancestors can be traced back to a Witch from the seventeenth century."
The female assistant continued, her tone carrying the superiority of someone revealing the answer to a mystery.
"You don't really think your grandparents and parents all died for the reasons written on the surface, do you?"
Evan froze.
His mind, thrown into chaos by the agony, stalled for a second.
The female assistant seemed to have been holding back an overwhelming urge to talk.
"Arkham has many secrets. The Mason Family is one of them."
She paused, then sneered.
"Supporting an Undying person is no easy task."
"This year's Homecoming invitation fell on your head."
"You should know what that means."
Evan's fingers suddenly clenched.
He vaguely recalled a few scenes.
Letters from their hometown would occasionally appear on the wooden dining table at home, sealed with the crest of a fallen family.
Every time they were opened, whether it was his grandparents or parents, their expressions would turn extremely ugly.
The atmosphere at home would even become gloomy for days, with no one willing to mention what the letters contained.
"Come with us obediently, and you might live a little longer."
The female assistant's final words were like bait.
Just as Evan was struggling to piece together those clues in his pain-addled mind.
Thud.
His body rolled twice amid violent jolting.
Evan crashed heavily onto the damp dirt.
He braced himself against the ground and struggled to raise his head.
The female assistant had already carried him nearly two kilometers out of Gooding Street.
Before him lay the familiar southeastern outskirts, where the silhouettes of abandoned factories could vaguely be seen beneath the distant cliffs.
And the female assistant, who had been running with such ease moments ago, was now sprawled on the ground three meters away from him.
"What's going on?"
She pushed up her upper body, a trace of confusion appearing on her face.
"My body... why isn't it listening to me?"
Her pupils abruptly contracted into vertical slits, her irises turning blood-red as though she were conducting a rapid internal examination.
The next second, her expression changed drastically.
"Damn it!"
She suddenly raised her head, fury blazing in her eyes.
"What did you do to me? How was I poisoned?"
She tried to struggle to her feet, but her body had completely stopped obeying her.
She was weak all over, her muscles slack, her head spinning. She could not even support herself enough to kneel.
She rapidly calculated in her mind. The unknown toxin has been diluted. It isn't strong.
These symptoms would not last.
With her physique, she would gradually recover at most thirty seconds later.
But at that very moment.
She saw Evan climb to his feet.
That guy's face was covered in blood, with fresh streaks of it still hanging from the corner of his mouth.
One eye was a golden vertical pupil, while the other was a pitch-black human eye.
That bizarre combination looked especially eerie beneath the moonlight.
He walked straight toward her.
The female assistant pulled out a cold smile.
"Hmph. You can't kill me."
Then.
Evan stepped over her limp legs, swung himself atop her, pinned her shoulders with both hands, lowered his head, and kissed her.
!!?
The female assistant froze completely.
In that instant, the arrogance in her eyes vanished entirely. Then, a glimmer of almost ecstatic joy flashed through her irises.
"Ha ha, this guy was probably driven mad by the Demon Hunter's characteristic."
"Or has he been sexually repressed for too long?"
She instinctively mocked him in her mind.
"Instead of killing me, he's kissing me?"
"Very good, obedient little dog!"
Just as she immersed herself in that absurd victory.
A scorching, spicy liquid poured through the gaps between her teeth and into her mouth.
Evan had prepared for this long ago.
He held her jaw down with one hand to stop her from closing her mouth, then slammed his other hand into the center of her chest.
The liquid was forcibly choked down her esophagus.
The female assistant's pupils abruptly widened.
She instantly realized it. This guy had been pretending to be stupid!
The next second, the two canine teeth in her upper jaw instantly lengthened into fangs. She viciously turned her head and bit down hard on the side of Evan's neck.
Sensing that something was wrong, she activated Plan B.
Sanguine Tainted Blood, a secondary characteristic specifically used to create blood thralls, was a toxin all Bloodthirsty Species were born with.
She took two huge gulps of blood, while injecting the tainted blood stored within her body into Evan's wound.
As long as she turned this guy into her blood thrall, she would still have a chance to turn things around.
Even if that meant all the previous research results might go to waste, and the "sunlight resistance" of this test subject might be directly reduced to zero.
She had no other choice.
The Demon Hunters were short on manpower, and the Bloodthirsty Species in their branch, continuously exploited by the Capitalist, were no better off.
The unknown toxin and this guy's unknown plan gave her no time to think.
But after taking just two huge gulps of blood, the female assistant sensed something wrong.
Pfft.
She violently spat out the remaining blood in her mouth, her scarlet eyes widening to their limit.
"Damn it!"
Her voice became shrill and hoarse.
"Why does your blood... smell like the Healing Church's copper stench? And... aaah!"
Before she could finish speaking, her entire body began convulsing violently.
Evan sat astride her, looking down at this reversal.
The two enormous crimson tentacles began shrinking and collapsing at a visible speed, like water balloons whose blood had been drained away.
Large numbers of raised red blood vessels began appearing across the skin on both sides of her shoulders, like a terrifying spiderweb.
Within her pupils, the crimson unique to the Vampire Race rapidly faded.
Her exaggerated vampire fangs shrank backward at a speed that defied physical common sense, returning to the length of ordinary teeth.
All the Beyonder traits belonging to the Bloodthirsty Species were rapidly fading.
Three doses of Blood-Burning Potion.
One dose entered through the tentacles, biting through the skin and injecting directly into the bloodstream.
One dose entered through the mouth, administered directly mouth-to-mouth.
And the final dose was fresh blood full of all kinds of medicinal ingredients.
Three routes, straight through to the top of her skull!
What surprised Evan was that the Copper Pill ingredients seemed to have worked as well.
At that moment, a prompt appeared on the panel.
[You have been injected with a large amount of Sanguine Tainted Blood. Effect duration: 10 hours.] [Effect: Beyonder Characteristic: Basic Sanguine +5%] [Reverse side effects?]
"Reverse it."
[Reversal progress: 10 hours.]
At the same time, the female assistant felt as if she were going mad.
"Damn it! What is this stuff?!"
It felt as if someone had dragged her from a dark laboratory straight into the noonday sun.
Her blood was burning, from deep within her vessels to her fingertips, from her stomach walls to her esophagus.
Worse still, she felt her control over her thoughts rapidly weakening.
The contamination from the Healing Church Dungeon Curse was silently devouring her sanity.
"Damn it, cough, cough!"
She coughed violently, spitting out black, frothy blood with every cough.
