"Who the hell are you?!"
She screamed hysterically as Bloodthirst consumed her, her body struggling without pause.
Yet like a paralyzed patient nailed to the ground, she could only squirm meaninglessly in the dirt.
Evan said in a low, hoarse voice, "I am your father!"
As he spoke, he rolled off the female assistant, got to his feet, and looked around.
His gaze landed on a large rock three steps away.
It was a piece of bluish granite weighing around forty pounds, sharp-edged and angular—a roadbed stone that had been overturned by trucks from a nearby abandoned factory.
Evan walked over and bent down, lifting the stone with both hands.
With a constitution of 2.3, lifting it took almost no effort.
He returned to the female assistant.
The female assistant raised her eyes, already beginning to lose focus. Seeing him lift the stone, her lips trembled.
"You..."
Bang.
The stone came down.
It struck the center of the female assistant's forehead with perfect accuracy.
The sound of bone shattering was as crisp as crushing a watermelon underfoot.
"Kill..."
An unfinished syllable squeezed out of her throat.
Bang.
The second blow.
Bang.
The third blow.
Evan could no longer remember how many times he had struck her.
When he finally stopped, he looked down.
His body was splattered with dark red and black blood, and he could no longer tell which was his and which was hers.
The female assistant's head and most of her neck had been smashed into a slowly writhing mass of flesh, mixed with shattered bone, brain matter, and dirt, giving off a nauseating stench of blood.
Huff!!
Evan sat on the ground, panting violently.
The exertion from repeatedly smashing her with the rock had far exceeded his expectations.
But he did not dare stop.
The reason he had chosen such an absurd method as force-feeding the potion through a kiss was that he feared the female assistant would clamp her mouth shut the moment she noticed something was wrong.
If that happened, he would have to find another opening on her body to poison her, wasting enough time for her to regain mobility.
So the moment he landed and recovered his freedom, he had placed the second Blood-Burning Potion in his mouth and waited for her to lower her guard.
The facts proved that he had gambled correctly.
The female assistant had noticed nothing unusual. Instead, she thought the Demon Hunter Characteristic had fried his brain and that he was sexually repressed.
Evan wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth with the back of his hand.
"Looks like Pulis isn't all that impressive either."
He muttered to himself, mocking Pulis.
"At the same university, and they didn't even know Professor Byron was researching potions designed to counter them."
Clearly, the female assistant had no idea the Blood-Burning Potion existed.
Attributes Soar! Class: Demon Hunter!
Looking at the body on the ground, whose flesh was still constantly writhing, Evan knew she was not dead.
At his current stage, he had no way to kill her.
But at least he had defeated her!
Without any Beyonder Characteristic at all, he had defeated a genuine Beyonder!
An unprecedented sense of accomplishment exploded in his chest.
And at that very moment.
His body began to convulse violently.
The agonizing pain that had once torn through every nerve in his body began fading at an almost unbelievable speed.
A successful hunt brought rapid digestion.
"Urghhh!!"
A strange, low growl rolled from his throat.
His black hair visibly lost its color, turning from root to tip into flawless silver-white.
His other eye, the one that had retained a human pupil, contracted vertically beneath the moonlight and became a golden slit pupil.
The veins on his clenched fist, once bluish green, were turning black one by one, a deep and absolute black.
His body grew taller again. His shoulders broadened, his chest thickened, and his entire frame seemed to have been reshaped from within.
The pointed crown of his head, which Richard had once mocked, began rapidly twisting and tearing under the influence of some invisible force.
Several seconds later.
Squish.
An incomparably sharp, slender bone spike burst from the top of his head.
Amid the struggle, a Monster crawled out.
It looked like a Monster's claw, with five long, sharp bone spikes gleaming with metallic luster.
Like a skeletal spider, or even more like a skeletal version of a small facehugger.
Within the translucent bone at the center of its palm was a fragment of black brain tissue.
Then everything fell quiet.
The heavy, bellows-like breathing from before vanished.
In its place came a deep, unhurried rhythm of breathing.
With every inhalation, his chest slowly expanded with strength.
With every exhalation, it was as though he were breathing an entire night's mist back into the sky.
Moonlight spilled from behind the clouds.
Evan stood and rolled his shoulders and neck.
He had grown to one meter eighty-one, standing tall and powerful.
The muscles beneath his skin were balanced and firm, every part brimming with explosive force.
The frigid night wind of mid-November blew across his bare chest, yet he felt no chill at all.
Under the moonlight, his silver-white hair drifted freely in the wind.
A pair of golden slit pupils glimmered faintly in the darkness.
Those eyes could not only see everything in the dark; they could even catch things that ordinary people would never see.
Around the female assistant's body on the ground, dark traces of light he had never seen before now appeared clearly in his vision.
"Finally."
Evan lowered his head to look at his hands, covered in black-red gore, then raised his gaze toward the distant outline of Bolton City's lights beneath the moon.
"Fully digested."
The corners of his mouth stretched nearly to his ears, forming an exaggerated grin.
On his face, half silver-white and half blood-red, that smile looked both crazed and exhilarated.
"Wryyyy!!"
"I'm... fucking high as hell right now!!"
An unprecedented thrill!
An unprecedented strength!
As Evan threw back his head and laughed, he felt an itch in his chest.
Looking down, he saw that little claw-shaped brain Monster crawling across his bare chest.
"Little thing's pretty distinctive."
Evan knew what it was.
During the reconstruction of his body just now, he had been able to clearly sense every change.
The instant he stepped into the Beyonder realm, the Demon Hunter class automatically detected the thirteen percent of residual nerve damage in his brain and classified it as abnormal tissue.
The Beyonder Characteristic of this path immediately initiated a removal process, stripping that diseased brain tissue from his cranial cavity.
What followed was a series of changes he could not comprehend.
That diseased brain tissue combined with the excess portions of his overgrown, expanded skull, forming the strange little thing before him.
The little creature had no self-awareness, only animal-level instincts, but it possessed the computational ability expected of a human brain.
Evan's thoughts could control it directly, like someone operating a small drone with a remote controller.
He extended his index finger and gently stroked the bone spike on the little Monster, which gleamed with metallic luster.
Sharp, sturdy, and smooth to the touch like finely polished horn.
"It seems to have fused some of the Copperization properties of the Copper Pill, along with the Bloodthirsty Species' tenacious vitality."
Evan analyzed in a low voice.
"Looks like that feeling of needing to grow a brain earlier was my body stripping this thing out."
He shook his head.
His entire cranial cavity felt incomparably clear.
The sluggish dullness in his thoughts, like a dark cloud perpetually hanging over his brain, had vanished completely.
But.
It still seemed as though his mind was missing a screw.
Only this time, what was missing was not sluggishness or numbness, but a strange pleasure—so carefree it was almost irresponsible.
As though someone had cut a few brake lines in his life.
The crazier you are, the broader your mind. The more of an idiot you are, the happier you'll be.
Evan silently recited an old internet saying that seemed perfectly suited to him.
The little Monster seemed to understand some call from its master.
It stopped crawling across Evan's chest, its bone spikes curling together.
Then it directly melted into Evan's skin.
Several seconds later, there was no trace left on his chest.
Only a patch of faintly warm muscle indicated that the little thing was now lurking within his flesh.
"So I've got three hands now, and one of them comes with its own brain!?"
