History

Founding and early expansion

The Heavenly Dao Sect began on a barren hill with only a dilapidated thatched hut. Its true nature was revealed when Su Bai entered its territory, demonstrated overwhelming power, accepted Zhuge Feng as his eldest disciple, and upgraded the sect into a one-star institution. 4

The sect rapidly became known for accepting disciples on the basis of will and loyalty rather than aptitude alone. Su Bai specifically stated that even a person with a Mortal Body could achieve greatness under the sect’s guidance, a principle embodied by Ye Qingyao’s eventual advancement. 26 130

Its reputation initially spread through its conflicts with the Jade Spirit Sect and Lingxiao Sect. After Su Bai destroyed Lingxiao Sect elders and disciples, observers began treating Heavenly Dao Sect as a Nascent Soul-level hegemon rather than an obscure mountain sect. 35

Rise in Southern Ridge

The sect paired cultivation resources with unusually generous recruitment policies: free admission, cultivation methods, food, lodging, a monthly payment of thirty taels of silver, and advancement rewards. These policies earned it broad support among commoners across Cloudwater City and the wider empire. 56

After defeating the Lingxiao Sect, the sect’s influence surpassed its former rival’s. It absorbed prisoners into mine labor, drew applicants from rival sects, and became a dominant power in Great Zhao. 89 110

Great Zhao later pledged itself to the Heavenly Dao Sect, making the kingdom’s population subjects of the sect. 110

Continental power

The sect won first place at the Southern Mystic Province Immortal Alliance Assembly, publicly establishing itself as a force capable of standing against the Heavenly Palace. Its victory encouraged numerous factions to leave the Immortal Alliance and seek admission. 251

It subsequently expanded through the Four Mystic Provinces and the Spirit Mystic Domain. Its disciples defeated or accepted the surrender of hostile sects, rebuilt ruined regions, and used public faith—not simple military occupation—as the basis for defining sect territory. 269 311 312

Following its war with the Heavenly Palace and allied Demon Race forces, the sect seized the Heaven, Earth, and Yellow Mystic Domains. It thereby controlled eight of the Human Race’s Nine Provinces, leaving Central Province as the principal territory outside its rule. 334

Expansion beyond the original world

The Heavenly Dao Sect established its first off-world branch after saving a continent from demons and fiends. Moon God Palace submitted, Elder Yue’e became a core elder, and the branch offered free Immortal Arts; those who passed the Heavenly Ladder could become official disciples of the main sect. 386

During the thousand-year Golden Age, the sect expanded to more than ten billion disciples across over 100,000 worlds and launched its first major Immortal Realm expedition against the Zhao Clan Realm. Su Bai ordered the expedition to protect civilians and non-aggressors, spare those who surrendered, and kill only those who resisted. 455

Su Bai later used the World Tree and Mountains and Rivers Immortal Map to merge millions of worlds into the Lesser Immortal Realm. The former Heavenly Sword Immortal Domain was renamed the Heavenly Dao Immortal Domain and became the sect’s foundation. 601

Ninth Layer campaign

In the ninth layer of the Immortal Realm, Su Bai established a Heavenly Dao Sect centered on free Immortal Arts and recruitment through the Heavenly Ladder. Yun Xuan became its first elder. 952 953

The sect’s first disciple in that realm, Erhu—renamed Su Hu—was accepted after redirecting his desire for personal vengeance toward ending systemic oppression. Su Bai declared that the sect taught not only Immortal Arts, but the World-Creation Method. 955

Over centuries, twenty-two branches united, destroyed or subdued oppressive powers, abolished taxes on ordinary people, enforced minimum wages and price controls, and prohibited violence and abuse. 970 971

The sect ultimately destroyed Heaven Gate, unified the Ninefold Firmament, and proclaimed that all beings had the right to pursue freedom and cultivate immortality. 1041
