Background
Krieg Pirates
Gin served as the Krieg Pirates' vice-captain and carried a 12-million-Beli bounty, making him one of the East Blue's most dangerous pirates. He was feared as the “Man-Demon” for his speed, ruthlessness, and willingness to kill enemies without mercy. 3 4
During the Krieg Pirates' attack on a burning island, Gin evaded a Marine rifle volley and nearly struck down Tashigi before Ener intercepted his tonfa. Gin recognized Ener as a dangerous opponent immediately. 3
Gin fought Ener with his spinning tonfas and endured Ener's Ice-Sealing Slash despite the frozen chest wound it inflicted. He forced himself back to his feet and answered with Shield Crush, but Ener defeated him with Ice Tiger; Gin was then imprisoned aboard the Marine warship. 4
Recruitment into Ener's Force
After becoming a captain and Inspector, Ener sought Gin out in prison as a potential subordinate. Gin initially chose to surrender his chance at release so that Krieg could leave instead, revealing the depth of his loyalty to his captain. 10 11
Ener refused to recruit Krieg because of his willingness to abandon his crew. Gin ultimately accepted Ener's offer under two conditions: Krieg and Pearl had to be treated well. He was released and joined Ener's force, though Ener remained cautious about trusting him completely. 11
Gin helped operate the captured Dreadnought Saber and joined Ener and Lina in the assault on Black Thorn Island. He later defeated Red Fox with Shield Crush and was recommended for promotion to lieutenant for the victory. 11 13 15 17
East Blue Inspector Service
Gin was appointed an ensign and combat captain of the East Blue Inspector Headquarters. While traveling with Ener's group, he trained relentlessly in Shave, motivated in part by becoming the weakest member of the core team after Lina's rapid growth. 19 22
At Shells Town, Gin publicly defeated Colonel Morgan. He blocked Morgan's axe with his tonfa, used Shave to flank him, and shattered his ribs with a single strike. 24
Gin later overwhelmed Chew of the Arlong Pirates with Shave and a tonfa strike, though Arlong's speed immediately demonstrated the gap Gin still needed to overcome. 30
Grand Line Conflict
At Whiskey Peak, Gin was assigned to face Mr. 3 and Miss Goldenweek of Baroque Works. Working with Ener's feint, he used Shave to incapacitate Miss Goldenweek before Mr. 3 could defend her. 37 38
Gin then confronted Mr. 3's Candle Sculpture: Sword with a momentum-building tonfa strike. When Baroque Works concentrated its forces on Lina, Gin attempted to reach her but was temporarily held back by Mr. 2's Okama Kenpo. 38 40
Appearance
Gin is a thin but imposing fighter whose appearance contrasts with the danger he presents in battle. 3
- Sleeveless coat marked with a red snake pattern. 3
- Green inner clothing and matching trousers. 3
- Patterned headscarf. 3
- Carries paired tonfas fitted with round iron hammerheads. 3
Personality
Gin is cold and merciless toward opponents, earning his pirate reputation through decisive violence. He does not hesitate in battle and retains the ruthless instincts that made him a feared Krieg Pirate officer. 4 13
Beneath that brutality, Gin is intensely loyal. He was willing to remain imprisoned so Krieg could go free, and only joined Ener after securing protections for both Krieg and Pearl. His loyalty is rooted in genuine concern for his former crewmates rather than self-preservation. 11
He is also highly perseverant. Despite repeated injuries and crashes while practicing Shave, Gin continued training without giving up. The realization that he lagged behind Lina and the others only strengthened his resolve. 22
