Role in the Marines

History

Marineford Promotion Assembly

Following Sengoku’s succession as Fleet Admiral, the Marines held a promotion assembly to fill vacant senior positions. Roya gained entry after presenting proof that he had killed several notorious pirates, including Avery, whose bounty was one billion Belly. 18 19

Roya’s performance quickly made him the event’s central figure. He defeated Smoker through illusionary decoys and Armament Haki, then repeatedly overcame other challengers while concealing his real body among phantoms. 22

His final match against Akainu established the office’s new standard of power. Roya used peak Armament Haki, Soru, Modified Rokuogan, Geppo, and Phantom Susanoo to incapacitate Akainu, after which Sengoku publicly promoted him to admiral. 25

Two days later, Aokiji and Kizaru completed the remaining matches. Roya chose the title White Dove, describing the symbol as gentle yet powerful and associated with freedom and peace. 26

White Dove’s Double Identity

Roya secretly held the Marine office of Admiral White Dove while acting separately as Zero, the leader of Dawn-and-Dusk Bird. This allowed him to maintain opposing public identities: a celebrated Marine officer and a feared independent power. 26 118

The deception directly compromised Marine operations. After Zero stole the Heavenly Tribute, Sengoku ordered White Dove to infiltrate the Sabaody auction, delay Zero, and await support—unaware that both identities belonged to Roya. 118

During the Summit War, Roya openly staged a clash between White Dove and Zero by having both identities release nearly identical sword energy, further reinforcing the illusion that they were separate people. 247

Succession to Fleet Admiral

The Five Elders later selected Roya as the new Fleet Admiral, replacing Sengoku. Sengoku accepted the transition and entrusted the Marines to him. 255

Roya immediately nominated Momousagi to inherit his former Admiral seat, restoring the three-admiral structure. 255 256
