Personality

Kalifa is strict, confrontational, and quick to accuse others of rudeness or harassment. She initially challenges Roya simply because she suspects he does not belong at Marineford, then escalates their spar into a dangerous exchange after becoming angry. 19 20

Beneath her temper, she is remorseful and emotionally sincere. When she believes that her Shigan has killed Roya, she breaks down in tears; later, her concern over his match with Akainu leads her to recognize her feelings for him. 20 23 She becomes openly affectionate and fiercely loyal, while still pursuing greater strength so that she can protect him herself. 27 42 48

In her official duties, Kalifa is observant and capable. She notices the fear concealing Cocoyasi Village's corruption, uncovers Nezumi's stolen money, and manages logistics and intelligence during Roya's campaign. 28 29 33

Story Role / Major Arcs

Marineford Promotion Tournament

Kalifa meets Roya at Marineford while training in the Six Powers. Believing him to be an unauthorized outsider, she attacks him; he catches her ankle and releases her after she calls the contact harassment. 19

Their forced spar continues when Kalifa attacks him with Soru and Shigan. Roya defeats her with Five-Turn Illusion, but her horror at apparently killing him reveals that she did not intend to take his life. Humiliated by the deception, she vows to defeat him in the promotion tournament. 20

Kalifa remains close to Roya during the tournament, warns him about Smoker's Sea-Prism Stone jitte, and proudly celebrates his victory. Her jealousy surfaces when he treats Smoker warmly while remaining distant toward her. 21 22 Before Roya faces Akainu, she urges him to surrender out of concern; after acknowledging her feelings and competing with Hina over him, she reconciles with Roya and promises to stay by his side. 23

She watches anxiously as Akainu destroys Roya's illusions, then embraces Roya after he defeats Akainu and is promoted to admiral. 24 25

White Dove's Deputy

Sengoku appoints Kalifa as Roya's deputy and assigns her to his admiral-class warship. She enthusiastically accepts the position and accompanies him as he begins independent pirate-hunting operations. 26 27

During the destruction of the Krieg Armada, Kalifa keeps the warship from being pulled into the whirlpool created by Roya's attack. She subsequently reports that their first five days at sea saw seven pirate crews defeated, with combined bounties totaling ten billion Belly. 28

At Cocoyasi Village, Kalifa investigates Nezumi's behavior, questions intimidated residents, and later returns the money he extorted from them. 29 33

Zephyr Rescue and Roya's Disappearance

Kalifa relays Sengoku's emergency order concerning Zephyr's distress signal and accompanies Roya to the Rondaldoron Sea. 37

After Roya orders the evacuation, she takes command of the withdrawal and ensures that Zephyr, Ain, and the trainees are taken to Marineford for treatment. 41 When intelligence reports that the battle island has vanished, Kalifa fears Roya has died but turns her distress into motivation to enter the Special Intelligence Department competition and become stronger. 42

CP9 and Fish-Man Island Mission

Following Roya's return, Kalifa reveals that she has joined CP9 and states that she wants the strength to protect him. 48 She remains behind when Roya departs with Ain for Fish-Man Island via Sabaody Archipelago. 49
