Background

Roya is a transmigrator who entered the pirate world with the Divine Check-in System, which rewards him for visiting notable locations. His first reward was Ryujin Jakka, described by the system as the strongest and oldest fire-type Zanpakutō. Its Shikai spiritual pressure is repeatedly mistaken by witnesses for Conqueror’s Haki. 1 5

He first altered major events on Seagull Island by destroying Doflamingo’s Birdcage, driving off the Donquixote Pirates, and taking the Op-Op Fruit. Rather than personally save Corazon, he handed the fruit to Trafalgar Law and told him to act through his own strength. 1

Roya subsequently intervened in the Ohara incident, saving Olvia and Robin from Spandam’s forces before defeating the Buster Call fleet. The World Government connected his flames to the Seagull Island attack, classified him as a major unknown threat, and attempted to suppress news of its defeat. 3 5

Appearance

Roya is usually seen in a cloak, which concealed his face during his earliest appearances. Beneath it, he has black bangs and a gentle-looking face that often causes Marines and civilians to underestimate him. 1 19 21

  • Often wears a cloak or Marine justice cape. 1 36
  • Carries Ryujin Jakka, an ancient katana-like Zanpakutō. 5 41
  • Usually maintains a faint smile, including during battles and intimidation attempts. 19 24
  • His outwardly gentle appearance sharply contrasts with his ability to kill powerful opponents without hesitation. 19 33

Personality

Roya is calm, self-assured, and rarely pressured into acting on another person’s terms. During the pursuit by Garp’s fleet, he chose evasion over an unnecessary battle because reaching Vermeyo Island before his check-in deadline mattered more than proving himself. 7 He similarly dismissed Golden Lion Shiki’s provocations until Shiki’s attacks became too dangerous to ignore. 9 10

He is compassionate toward people he considers innocent or sincere. He rescues Olvia, Robin, Fisher Tiger, the Boa sisters, Zephyr, Usopp, and Kaya’s parents; he also encourages Law, Hancock, Nami, Robin, and Kaya to develop the strength to shape their own futures. 1 3 11 12 17 33 37 46

However, Roya can become ruthlessly violent when confronting cruelty. He kills Arlong, Miss Bakkin, and Kuro, deliberately making Kuro experience despair after witnessing the injuries inflicted on Usopp and Kaya’s family. 33 36 40 He is also highly deceptive, maintaining both the public identity of Admiral White Dove and a hidden identity responsible for several anti-Marine incidents. 26 48

Abilities & Skills

Divine Check-in System

Roya’s primary source of growth is the Divine Check-in System, which issues time-limited missions at notable locations and grants high-level rewards upon completion. 1 3 7

  • Rewards documented include Ryujin Jakka, Bakudō mastery, the Chicken Talisman, the Illusion-Illusion Fruit, Peak Six Powers, and the Peak Great Swordsman Realm. 1 3 7 18 19 26
  • Roya plans his routes around check-in deadlines and often uses dangerous events as cover to reach restricted locations. 7 10 18
  • The system’s rewards have no stated common origin beyond the check-in mechanism. 1

Ryujin Jakka

Ryujin Jakka is Roya’s fire-type Zanpakutō. Its released flames possess devastating heat, enormous range, and spiritual pressure perceived by others as Conqueror’s Haki. 1 5 9

  • First Form: Caressing Slash — A flaming sword wave that destroyed the Ohara Buster Call fleet, defeated Aokiji and Akainu, and later overwhelmed Weevil. 5 41
  • Flame Hell — Summons towering pillars of fire that converge into Roya’s sword slash; it destroyed Shiki’s awakened Lion’s Might: Goshikito. 9
  • Torch — Engulfs an immobilized target in flames; used on Kizaru after trapping him with Rikujōkōrō. 13
  • Burning Heaven and Boiling Sea — A full-Shikai attack that boiled the surrounding ocean and cleaved the Deep-Sea Sea Serpent in half. 15
  • Flame Scorching City Walls — Reshapes a massive flaming attack into a fireball capable of evaporating a tsunami. 46
  • Full Shikai output reached approximately 6,000°C during the Sea King battle. Bankai is described as potentially reaching the temperature of the sun’s core, but Roya had not achieved it at that point. 15

Illusion-Illusion Fruit

The Paramecia-type Illusion-Illusion Fruit allows Roya to create realistic, tangible phantoms. Each phantom can possess a share of his strength and remain active until taking fatal damage. 18

  • Five-Turn Illusion — Creates five deceptive bodies; Roya used it to control his spar with Kalifa and clean up the aftermath of Arlong’s defeat. 20 33
  • Myriad Phantom Turns — Produces one hundred phantoms to operate ships and perform coordinated tasks. 28 49
  • Phantoms can be coated in Armament Haki, allowing them to damage Logia users such as Smoker. 22
  • Phantom Susanoo — A gigantic purple phantom armor that can be fully coated in Armament Haki; used to crush Akainu with a single massive punch. 25
  • Roya can use the fruit for mental interference, breaking Jango’s hypnosis over Morgan and later trapping Weevil’s consciousness to make him obedient. 34 41
  • Creating too many powerful phantoms divides Roya’s strength among them; maintaining distant phantoms is physically draining. 18 37

Haki and Six Powers

Roya possesses peak Armament Haki and complete mastery of the Six Powers. 19 25

  • His Armament Haki withstood Akainu’s magma without injury. 25
  • He uses Soru for instantaneous movement, Geppo for aerial pursuit, and advanced Shigan techniques such as Cannonball and Coptis. 25 36 40
  • Modified Rokuogan — An enhanced Six Powers secret technique that launches a powerful short-range shockwave; it sent Akainu airborne. 25
  • His spiritual pressure is consistently mistaken for Conqueror’s Haki by Marines and pirates, though it originates from Ryujin Jakka rather than a confirmed Haki ability. 5 7 9

Bakudō

Roya possesses mastery of all ninety-nine Bakudō spells after checking in at Ohara. 3

  • Bakudō No. 64: Reverse Mirror — Creates a translucent barrier that blocks and reflects incoming attacks. 3
  • Rikujōkōrō — Restrains a target with six rods of light; used to stop Kizaru before his light-speed kick could land. 13

Chicken Talisman

The Chicken Talisman grants Roya levitation and telekinetic control over himself and objects. 7

  • Allows sustained aerial movement and rapid maneuvering. 7 10
  • Can lift and transport ships, a Marine warship, and even an entire island. 10 15
  • Keeps Noah’s Ark airborne above the sea. 41 42

Swordsmanship

Roya reached the Peak Great Swordsman Realm after checking in at Sengoku’s office. 26

  • His sword intent was sufficient to pierce Arlong’s heart using a drawing pen as an improvised blade. 33
  • His flaming slash completely suppressed Akainu’s magma and cut across the sea. 46
  • He defeated Golden Lion Shiki with a single strike despite Shiki’s awakened Devil Fruit. 9 10

Medical Skills

Roya possesses advanced medical ability and can coordinate phantoms to provide emergency treatment. 37

  • Stabilized Zephyr and numerous Marine trainees after Weevil’s attack. 39 42
  • Saved Kaya’s critically wounded parents and pulled Usopp back from the brink of death. 37
  • Treated the severely injured Akainu after defeating him, though Akainu did not know Roya had caused his injuries. 46

Wood Release

Roya has displayed a Wood Release ability capable of manipulating the Tree of Knowledge’s root barrier on Ohara. 44

  • Withdrew the root barrier to expose Ohara’s defenders during Akainu’s assault. 44
  • Used the ability alongside illusions to conceal himself and Weevil from the Marine fleet. 44

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Ryujin Jakka — Fire-type Zanpakutō and Roya’s principal weapon. 1 5
  • Chicken Talisman — Levitation and telekinetic artifact acquired at Vermeyo Island. 7
  • Noah’s Ark — Enormous system vessel used after the battle with Weevil. 41 42
  • Admiral-class warship — Assigned by Sengoku when Roya began his pirate-hunting leave; often operated by his phantoms. 26 28

  • Trafalgar Law — Roya gave Law the Op-Op Fruit and told him to save Corazon through his own strength; Law vowed future allegiance to him. 1
  • Nico Olvia — Roya rescued Olvia at sea, defended her and Robin at Ohara, and later entrusted Weevil’s care to her. 3 5 46
  • Nico Robin — Roya saved Robin from World Government forces and later became her combat mentor, encouraging her to pursue Devil Fruit awakening. 3 44 46
  • Boa Hancock — Roya freed Hancock and her sisters from Mary Geoise, replaced Hancock’s Celestial Dragon brand with a phoenix design, and inspired her to train until they could reunite. 12 13 17

  • Kaya — After saving Kaya’s parents and Usopp, Roya inspired Kaya to study medicine and promised to send for her after her family recovered. 37
  • Edward Weevil — Roya defeated and mentally controlled Weevil, then assigned him as Ohara’s defender. 41 42

Story Role / Major Arcs

Seagull Island and Ohara

Roya’s arrival on Seagull Island prevented Doflamingo’s massacre from proceeding as planned. His destruction of the Birdcage and transfer of the Op-Op Fruit to Law changed Law and Corazon’s fate. 1

At Ohara, Roya earned Bakudō mastery, saved Olvia and Robin, and used Ryujin Jakka to defeat the Buster Call force, including Akainu, Aokiji, and three vice admirals. This made him a major World Government target. 3 5

Vermeyo Island and Mary Geoise

While pursuing a Vermeyo Island check-in, Roya acquired the Chicken Talisman and encountered Golden Lion Shiki. He ultimately defeated Shiki in one sword strike despite Shiki’s awakened Float-Float Fruit. 7 9 10

Roya then infiltrated Mary Geoise amid Fisher Tiger’s slave uprising. He killed five CP0 agents, rescued Fisher Tiger, freed the Boa sisters, covered their slave brands with new symbols, and defeated Kizaru during their escape. 11 12 13

Amazon Lily and Marineford Promotion

After killing the Deep-Sea Sea Serpent threatening Amazon Lily, Roya was recognized as an honored guest under the island’s ancestral law. He declined honors and instead secured support for Hancock and her sisters’ training. 15 17

Roya ate the Illusion-Illusion Fruit, hunted high-bounty pirates, and entered Marineford’s promotion tournament under a fabricated background. He defeated Smoker through Haki-coated phantoms, then overwhelmingly defeated Akainu using peak Armament Haki, Modified Rokuogan, and Phantom Susanoo. 18 22 25

He was formally appointed Admiral White Dove alongside Aokiji and Kizaru, then received leave to hunt pirates with Kalifa as his deputy. 26

East Blue Campaign

As White Dove, Roya destroyed Don Krieg’s armada with one Susanoo punch and eliminated multiple pirate crews during his voyage. 28

At Cocoyasi Village, he exposed Nezumi’s corruption, killed Arlong, restored the villagers’ stolen money, and gave Nami an Encyclopedia of Navigation. 33 He then intervened in Syrup Village, killed Kuro after protecting Kaya, saved Usopp and Kaya’s parents through medical treatment, and allowed Jango to surrender to the Marines. 36 37

Zephyr, Weevil, and Ohara

Roya answered Zephyr’s distress call and saved him from Weevil. After killing Miss Bakkin, he fought Weevil at full strength once his allies evacuated, defeated him with Ryujin Jakka, and used mental illusions to turn him into a controlled weapon. 39 40 41

While Marineford believed Roya had died with the collapsing island, he transported Weevil to Ohara aboard Noah’s Ark. He later used Weevil to repel Akainu’s assault on Ohara, personally overwhelmed Akainu, prevented a tsunami from reaching the island, and secretly treated the injured vice admiral. 42 44 46

Return to Marineford and Fish-Man Island Mission

Roya returned to Marineford with Akainu, restoring Marine morale during the rise of the Four Emperors. He then misled Sengoku into suspecting a nonexistent Marine spy, concealing his own role in the Weevil incident. 47 48

Sengoku assigned Roya to Fish-Man Island to invite Jinbe into the Shichibukai system. Before departing, Roya accepted Ain as an aide and headed for Sabaody Archipelago to coat his ship. 48 49

Trivia

  • Roya’s public Marine title, White Dove, was chosen to represent freedom, peace, gentleness, and strength. 26
  • He openly maintains two useful identities: Admiral White Dove and an unidentified figure who repeatedly disrupts Marine operations. 26
  • His first major act after obtaining Ryujin Jakka was to destroy the Birdcage rather than directly confront Doflamingo. 1
  • Roya’s phantoms can operate ships, fight independently, perform medical work, and misdirect enemies, but excessive numbers divide their available power. 18 28 37
