History
A fights Minato during a clash with Konoha. His Lightning Release Chakra Mode is fast enough to threaten Minato, but Minato repeatedly teleports away before A can land a hit 159.
Minato intercepts A’s attempts to pursue Konoha’s retreating wounded, using Flying Thunder God and Rasengan attacks to keep him occupied. Although A’s armor prevents Minato from quickly inflicting decisive damage, the pursuing Hidden Cloud forces lose their will to fight. A orders a full retreat and remains at the rear, acknowledging Minato’s victory while vowing to defeat him honorably in their next encounter 159 160.
In a later battle, A attacks Fang Xu with a lightning-charged Lariat. Fang Xu evades it and strikes a weak point in A’s chest with a Haki-coated blade, cutting through his Lightning Release Armor. A is left severely wounded and is subsequently knocked unconscious by Fang Xu 173 174. The force left in the wound continues to destroy his flesh and meridians. As A’s condition worsens, the Third Raikage orders him taken to the Konoha camp for treatment and instructs a negotiation team to agree to demands within Hidden Cloud’s means 179 180 181.
A initially charges at Hatake Sakumo during this battle, but Fang Xu interrupts him with a coin-fired Railgun. A avoids the direct hit, though the explosion’s shockwave sends him sliding dozens of meters. His subsequent attack on Fang Xu ends with a bone-deep slash extending from his left shoulder to the right side of his abdomen. Neither his Lightning Release Chakra nor his attempts to seal the wound can suppress the lingering Armament and Conqueror’s Haki 173 174.
Fang Xu then strikes A’s head with an Armament Haki-coated punch, knocking him unconscious and sending him flying toward the Eight-Tails. Killer B attempts to catch him, but the impact breaks two tentacles and knocks the Eight-Tails into a crater. Following Blue B’s warning that continuing the battle would endanger both A and Hidden Cloud’s jinchūriki, Killer B withdraws his transformation and carries A away in octopus tentacles 174. When the Third Raikage returns, he sees A’s wound and learns that Fang Xu inflicted it 175.
Hidden Cloud’s medical ninjas cannot remove the Haki with Medical Ninjutsu. They preserve A’s life by sealing the major blood vessels around the wound to slow the bleeding without further disturbing it 179 180. At the Konoha camp, Fang Xu demands a sealing scroll filled with Eight-Tails Chakra as payment for treatment. Killer B ultimately supplies nearly two-fifths of the Eight-Tails’ total Chakra in exchange for removing the corrosive power and repairing A’s internal organs, Chakra pathways, and flesh 180 181.
Fang Xu completes the treatment, and Hidden Cloud’s medical ninjas confirm that A’s injuries have fully recovered. He states that A will awaken within an hour and warns against immediate intense combat, which could reopen the wound. Killer B agrees to watch over him 182.
Later, the Third Raikage dies after fighting Iwagakure’s forces for three days and three nights while covering Hidden Cloud’s retreat. A subsequent intelligence report states that a dispute over the Fourth Raikage’s candidacy has broken out within Hidden Cloud, temporarily halting its external war; the report does not identify a confirmed successor 233.

- His Lightning Release Body Flicker is outmatched by Minato’s Flying Thunder God 174.
- His Lightning Release Chakra cannot suppress the Armament and Conqueror’s Haki left inside his wound by Fang Xu 173 174.

Power Progression
| Chapter | Development | Demonstrated Capabilities or Limitations |
|---|---|---|
| 159 | Lightning Release Chakra Mode demonstrated | Moves fast enough to threaten Minato, but cannot land a hit before Minato teleports away 159. |
| 160 | Defensive capabilities assessed | Lightning Release Armor prevents Minato’s Rasengan from quickly deciding the battle; A remains inferior to the Third Raikage in physique, defense, and strength 160. |
| 173–174 | Armor and Lariat tested against Fang Xu | Uses a lightning-charged Lariat, but Fang Xu evades it and cuts through his armor with a Haki-coated blade. His Chakra cannot suppress the residual Haki, and a subsequent punch knocks him unconscious 173 174. |
| 182 | Recovery from critical injuries | Fang Xu fully heals his injuries. Immediate intense combat remains inadvisable because the wound could reopen 182. |
