Background
Shen Qian was the head of the Shen Lineage in Clearwind City. After the city’s four major Lineages fought and the Shen Lineage was defeated and driven out, he entered the Qiao Household as an Attendant. His service gave the Qiao Household a legitimate pretext to intervene in Clearwind City, while offering him a chance to reclaim his family’s position and avenge its defeat. 20 23
Second Uncle Qiao personally brought Shen Qian to Qiao Family Fort. He was accepted as a Grade-B Attendant, though his recruitment also served Second Uncle Qiao’s political plan to retake Clearwind City. 9 20
Personality
Shen Qian is proud, formal, and highly conscious of status. He initially looks down on Yang Yi as an uncultured village youth, interpreting Yang Yi’s refusal to duel for Cuiwei Residence and later failure to greet him as cowardice and disrespect. 10 21
His pride is rooted in the humiliation of the Shen Lineage’s defeat. He reacts visibly whenever Clearwind City or his family’s downfall is mentioned, and his resentment toward Song Du is especially intense. 23 26
Despite his pride, Shen Qian is compassionate. He asks Lü E to spare Wang Han and Lin Hongyao—despite the Wang Household’s role in the Shen Lineage’s destruction—and accepts their usefulness to the Qiao Household as prisoners. 32
Shared danger gradually replaces his contempt for Yang Yi with sincere respect. He comes to regard Yang Yi as the group’s pillar, follows his command in battle, worries over his injuries, and later accepts his instruction in the Body Tempering Technique. 26 29 42 46
