Background / History
Origins and the Ancient Heavenly Court
Emperor Zun was born on Primordial Ancient Star, rose to prominence on Ziwei, and established the Heavenly Court’s headquarters beyond the Ninefold Emperor Pass. A later account identifies his successive lifetimes as Yuanshi Tianzun, Hongjun Tianzun, and Emperor Zun, with the Heavenly Court founded in the third 480 671.
His rule extended across the Myriad Heavens and Ten Thousand Domains. Gods obeyed his heavenly laws and statutes, while even the Life Restricted Areas paid homage. The ancestors of later sacred lands and Dao lineages included former Heavenly Court divine generals 410.
Emperor Zun followed the example of Desolate Heaven Emperor in establishing a Heavenly Court and forging the Green Cauldron. He and Netherworld Emperor jointly forged the artifact, which embodied the Ancient Heavenly Court’s hope of ascending to immortality 481 493 544.
Failed Ascension and Corruption
At the End of the Mythic Era, Emperor Zun attacked an Immortal Ascension Road bearing Desolate Heaven Emperor’s aura and imprint. Its opening attracted the Dark Immortal Emperor’s attention; Emperor Zun’s resemblance to Huang and pursuit of the Red-Dust Immortal Path made him a figure of interest 671.
His ascension failed. According to his disciple Emperor Huang, he killed two Supreme Beings before being carried to Kunlun Immortal Mountain, where he sought survival through fusion with an Immortal Artifact. Emperor Huang also recalls his intention to form a Reincarnation Seal if he could not live another life 543.
The later confrontation reveals that Black Blood had corrupted him. He severed his Light Primordial Spirit, preserving it through the Green Cauldron’s spirit as Divine Baby. His dark emperor corpse underwent Spirit Awakening and continued cultivating for millions of years 711.
Disputed Accounts of His Fall
| Account | Source and qualification |
|---|---|
| Netherworld Emperor attacked Emperor Zun and caused the Heavenly Court’s collapse | A Divine Organization account. Emperor Huang rejects it as incompatible with Netherworld Emperor’s character and independent cultivation path 544. |
| Prison-Suppressing Emperor ambushed Emperor Zun with the Heaven-Penetrating Netherworld Treasure | An accusation made by Lin Xian while discussing vengeance with Chuan Ying 490. |
| Emperor Zun intended to sacrifice the Heavenly Court’s Supremes and destroy the universe | An old legend cited by Lin Xian. The assembled venerables had previously dismissed such stories as slander 595. |
| Gu Tuo ruined Emperor Zun’s undertaking | Emperor Zun recognizes Gu Tuo as the man who thwarted him at the End of the Mythic Era 711. |
Appearance
- Actual appearance: Chuan Ying depicts him as a carefree young man, rather than the overwhelmingly majestic sovereign shown in later legends 481.
- Resemblance to Ye Fan: Chuan Ying estimates a fifty-percent physical resemblance, but considers their spirits extremely alike 481.
- Historical portrayals: The Divine Organization’s portraits show dazzling divine radiance rather than a recognizable human face 481.
- Cause of the resemblance: Contact with the Three-Life Copper Coffin gradually drew Emperor Zun, Ye Fan, Shi Hao, and the Empress’s brother toward the Coffin Master’s appearance; resemblance alone does not establish reincarnation 481 709.
- Dark aspect: His battle manifestations include an enormous black hand, while wounds sustained during the final confrontation expose blood connected to primordial darkness 711 716.
Personality
The original Emperor Zun favored achieving supremacy within a single lifetime rather than depending on reincarnation. Corpse Emperor identifies this conviction as a point of resemblance between him and Ye Fan. Chuan Ying’s recollection also preserves a more human, carefree figure than the solemn ruler celebrated in historical imagery 455 481.
Dark Emperor Zun treats other lives as expendable in his pursuit of immortality. He regards death in his service as acceptable and demands the return of his Light Primordial Spirit so that he can refine worlds through the cauldron. He remains dismissive even when surrounded by eight Heavenly Emperor-level opponents, losing his composure only when Gu Tuo appears 711.
His arrogance does not prevent tactical retreat. When the coalition wounds him and his connection to Divine Baby is severed, he feigns an impending self-destruction before escaping beyond the Dam World 716.
Abilities & Skills
Nine Secrets
Emperor Zun pioneered the fusion of the Nine Secrets and uses it as his fundamental Dao technique 711.
- Nine Secrets: Jie: Functions as the Nine Secrets’ general outline and increases combat power tenfold, including the effects of other secrets 97 453.
- Perfected fusion: Sends Lin Xian, Ye Fan, Duan De, and Chaotic Ancient Emperor flying with a single attack 711.
- Breaking confinement: Uses the Nine Secrets to escape the Desolate Pagoda’s suppression during the continuing battle 716.
Longevity and Primordial Spirit Division
His longevity method centers on returning to the Innate state and being reborn as an infant, with nine rebirths required by the method 481.
- Severs a radiant portion of his Primordial Spirit and merges it with the Green Cauldron’s Divine Spirit, creating Divine Baby 481 678.
- His dark corpse undergoes Spirit Awakening, forms Reincarnation Seals, and cultivates anew 711.
- Reuniting his dark body with the Light Primordial Spirit could complete him and trigger full immortality; Divine Baby actively resists this reunion 711.
Immortal Artifact Forging and Control
Emperor Zun jointly forged the Green Cauldron with Netherworld Emperor. His authority as its creator remains stronger than Ye Fan’s possession of the artifact 544 711.
- Overrides Divine Baby’s will and turns the Immortal-Ascension Cauldron against Ye Fan 711.
- Uses the cauldron to launch an Ascending Immortal strike against the Bronze Immortal Palace and Immortal Sword 711.
- Plans to use it to refine worlds, including the Immortal Realm, as part of completing his transformation 711.
Immortal Formations
His final arrangement combines his own Great Dao with Desolate Heaven Emperor’s methods, converting interference into nourishment 709.
- Reassembles his phantom after Lin Xian destroys it and absorbs the attacking Chaos Great Dao 709.
- Draws power from the Myriad Heavens and Ten Thousand Domains 709.
- Summons scattered Green Cauldron fragments across billions of star rivers 709.
Phantom Manifestation
Even before his true body descends, Emperor Zun’s phantom can overwhelm Supreme Beings and newly established Heavenly Emperors 709 711.
- Repels Duan De despite the Heaven-Penetrating Netherworld Treasure 711.
- Scatters a combined assault by Supremes, Alternative Path experts, and Mythical Heavenly Venerables 709.
- Is finally shattered by five Heavenly Emperors supported by four Immortal Treasures; the resulting destruction reopens the Heavenly Gate rather than ending the threat 711.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Green Cauldron / Immortal-Ascension Cauldron — His life-bound Immortal Artifact, jointly forged with Netherworld Emperor. It symbolizes the Ancient Heavenly Court’s ascension project and houses Divine Baby 481 544.
- Roll of Generals — An artifact he forged to appoint the Ancient Heavenly Court’s Heavenly Soldiers and Generals. Wu Shi’s Investiture of the Gods List was modeled on this older artifact but served a different purpose 246.
- Emperor Zun’s Horn — A Heavenly Court legacy treasure used by an ancestral god against Immortal Queen. Its sound can summon the gods, and its power is described as surpassing an Emperor Weapon despite not being one 203 635.
Relationships
- Netherworld Emperor / Duan De — Mentor and friend; co-forger of the Green Cauldron. Their relationship includes both master-disciple ties and friendship. Duan De later confronts Dark Emperor Zun as a disobedient junior 544 711.
- Chuan Ying — First Divine General of the Ancient Heavenly Court. Remembers Emperor Zun’s actual appearance, seeks vengeance for the Court’s destruction, and longs for his return 481 678.
- Emperor Huang — Direct disciple, whose standing in the Ancient Heavenly Court was equivalent to an Emperor’s Son. Preserves his teacher’s advice and information about his failed ascension 543 544.
- Divine Baby / Light Emperor Zun — His severed Light Primordial Spirit, merged with the Green Cauldron’s spirit. Rejects Dark Emperor Zun’s willingness to sacrifice living beings 711.
- Ye Fan — Publicly promoted as his reincarnation, but repeatedly asserts an independent identity. Divine Baby and the cauldron can reproduce Emperor Zun’s aura around him; he later fights the actual Dark Emperor Zun 480 481 711.
- Lin Xian — Exploits Emperor Zun’s reputation to legitimize the New Heavenly Court, then joins the coalition resisting his return and attempted world-refinement 246 649 711.
- Immortal Emperor — Longstanding rival who temporarily cooperates with the Heavenly Court to attack Emperor Zun 420 711.
- Gu Tuo — True Immortal who thwarted his undertaking at the End of the Mythic Era and returns to oppose him during the Three Realms’ encirclement 711.

| Lin Xian claims to be Emperor Zun’s emissary 181 | Uses Ye Fan’s supposed reincarnation to recruit the Green Cauldron’s Divine Infant into the Immortal Alliance. |
| Emperor Zun becomes a public mantle 246 | Lin Xian explicitly argues that collective belief matters more than who actually bears the name. |
