Background

Ye Fan was an Earth university student and a key player on his school soccer team. Though his appearance was gentle and refined, he was strongly built and known among classmates as a “barbarian” on the field 4.

He was among the passengers carried from Mount Tai aboard the Nine Dragons Pulling a Coffin. When Liu Yunzhi tried to mobilize the frightened classmates against Lin Xian, Ye Fan opposed seizing an unknown cultivator without evidence, warning that provoking a mysterious opponent could bring disaster 4.

Within the Bronze Coffin, Ye Fan immediately trusted Pang Bo despite the others’ fear that Pang Bo might be a ghost. He embraced him to confirm that he was alive, then defended his character on the basis of their four years of friendship 5.

Lin Xian later identified Ye Fan as the bearer of the Desolate Ancient Sacred Body. While the physique grants extraordinary power and the potential to rival an emperor after Great Accomplishment and Ultimate Sublimation, it is also severely restricted in its path to proving the Dao 5 6.

After reaching Mars, Ye Fan prioritized the survivors’ lives over treasure. He lent Lin Xian his Ancient Bronze Lamp during the Divine Crocodile attack and later willingly offered the Bodhi Seed, stating that no divine object was more important than human life 7.

He places human lives and personal bonds above cultivation treasures. This is most clearly shown when he lends Lin Xian the Bodhi Seed without hesitation during the crisis on Mars 7. His trust, however, can be exploited: Lin Xian’s teachings and apparent self-sacrifice eventually persuade Ye Fan to allow him to inspect the Complete Dao Scripture within his Sea of Bitterness 50.

Despite his restraint, Ye Fan can be hot-tempered when repeatedly taken advantage of. Duan De’s theft of his discoveries near Qing Emperor’s Tomb leaves him openly frustrated, although the Daoist’s higher cultivation prevents him from retaliating directly 44 45.
