Avengers Operation
Night falls
S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters
An underground conference room
The holographic projection rotated in the center of the metal round table, with Xiao Han's image suspended within it.
Black battle suit with gold patterns, those calm golden eyes seemed to pierce through the screen and gaze upon everyone.
Nick Fury's one eye swept across the group around the round table. "The world needs insurance, and Superman..."
He tapped the table, and a dense stream of data popped up next to Xiao Han's image.
"He is currently the biggest uncertainty; we need to recruit him, the world needs him."
Adam Bernard sat in the corner, the azure Antimatter Energy changing shape between his fingers.
He stared at a scene in the video where Xiao Han caught a crashing passenger plane with his bare hands, his brows furrowing slightly. "His power system doesn't seem like that of Mutants, nor like a serum mutation. Could he really Kryptonian?"
"Whatever it is." Fury's one eye flickered slightly.
"Now we have you, Doctor Banner, and the Hydra technology we seized last time."
He pulled up another set of data. "The energy readings from the battle in Canada a couple of days ago were close to the level of a nuclear explosion, and this is not your limit."
Banner adjusted his glasses and glanced at everyone. "Chief, this man in the news has been saving lives. From the chemical plant explosion in Mumbai to the earthquake in Chile, he even repaired a nuclear leak."
He pointed to a video showing Xiao Han using Freeze Breath to seal a nuclear power plant leak, saying, "This doesn't seem like a threat that needs to be dealt with; it's more like peaceful recruitment."
"That's precisely why it's dangerous, Doctor."
Fury pulled up an encrypted video recording showing Xiao Han floating on the Earth's surface, sunlight shining on him.
"If a person can take a shower in space, why should they be kind to ants?"
Natasha Romanoff suddenly chuckled, "So now it's time for a moral debate?"
She twirled the knife in her hand. "Barton and I are just paid employees. We carry out the chief's orders."
Hawkeye, silently inspecting the ballistic chip of the new arrow in the corner, didn't even look up. "I need to remind you, sir, last time we invited Doctor Banner, we almost had a large mountain range demolished."
Fury did not answer, but instead pulled up another video.
The image of Tony Stark instantly covered in Nanotech Armor during the Monaco Grand Prix.
"We don't need to go directly to Superman," Fury said confidently.
"We can try contacting his partner first."
Adam Bernard crossed his arms and stared blankly at the screen. "Stark will cooperate?"
"He will." Fury's one eye locked onto Stark's image.
"Because he's a businessman, and businessmen are best at weighing pros and cons."
Hawkeye Clint adjusted his headset and said calmly, "So the plan is to find Stark first, and then contact Superman through him?"
"That's right. We have no idea where he is, we can't find him." Fury stood up, his black trench coat swaying slightly behind him.
"Natasha, you and Barton are responsible for contacting Stark; try to be as friendly as possible."
"Friendly?"
Natasha raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure you don't want me to use my femininity?"
Fury said expressionlessly, "If it works."
Banner couldn't help but interject, "What if Stark refuses?"
Fury's single eye narrowed slightly, his voice cold and hard. "Then let him understand that S.H.I.E.L.D..'s invitations are always for the good of the people."
Adam paused for a moment, then suddenly spoke, "If Superman were really on our side, the world would be a different place."
"Or worse."
Fury said in a low voice, "An unrestrained god is the greatest threat in itself."
A brief silence fell over the meeting room.
"When will the operation begin?" Natasha broke the silence.
"Tomorrow."
Fury shut down the holographic projection. "Stark has a party in Monaco tonight and is flying back to New York tomorrow. We'll wait for him at the airport."
Natasha stood up, a faint smile playing on her lips, "I hope he won't be too resistant to friendly talks."
Fury didn't respond, but simply turned and walked towards the door, his one eye narrowing in the darkness.
"Remember this." He paused at the door.
"Whether he likes it or not, the world needs Superman."
"And we are the ones who persuaded him."
On the other side
Xiao Han, who was on the balcony at home, glanced in the direction of S.H.I.E.L.D..
"Come on, let me see how you plan to invite me?"
Wanda carried the fruit platter onto the balcony and saw Xiao Han gazing into the distance, his golden eyes gleaming.
"What are you looking at?" She placed the fruit plate on the small table and curiously followed his gaze, only to see the New York night sky.
"Nothing."
Xiao Han withdrew his gaze, casually picked up a slice of watermelon, and said, "Go and rest. We'll see a good show tomorrow."
"A good show?" Wanda tilted her head, her red hair falling over her shoulders.
"What good show?"
Xiao Han shrugged. "A game of mice trying to catch cats."
Wanda blinked, even more confused, but seeing that he didn't seem inclined to say anything more, she could only nod. "Okay, then I'll go to sleep first."
She turned to leave, but couldn't help looking back one last time as she reached the door.
Xiao Han looked into the distance again, and with a flick of his finger, a golden portal silently opened, leading to a library on the other side.
Wanda pursed her lips, ultimately asking no further questions, and gently closed the balcony door.
the next day
New York Airport
Tony Stark's private jet landed slowly. Inside the cabin, he swirled his glass of red wine, listening casually to JARVIS's report.
"Sir, a suspicious person has been detected in the airport exit hall. Agents Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. are waiting."
Tony chuckled and took a sip of his drink, "I thought it was some dangerous individual, but it turns out to be nothing special?"
Pepper put down her tablet and looked at him with some concern. "Should we contact security?"
"There's no need."
Tony waved his hand, put on his sunglasses, and said, "I'd like to see what tricks Fury is up to this time."
After the plane came to a stop, Tony put his arm around Pepper's waist and strolled leisurely out of the aisle.
As soon as I stepped into the exit hall, a slender figure walked towards me.
Natasha Romanoff's red hair was loose, and a tight black dress accentuated her perfect curves, with a faint smile playing on her lips.
"Mr. Stark, what a coincidence."
Tony stopped, his eyes behind his sunglasses scanning her up and down before he grinned. "Agent Romanoff, S.H.I.E.L.D..'s pay dropped so low that you need to work part-time as a flight attendant?"
Natasha's smile remained unchanged, but her eyes turned slightly cold. "The director wants to talk to you."
"Oh? What are you talking about?" Tony feigned surprise.
"If it's the Avengers Initiative, I already refused last time."
Before Natasha could respond, Clint stepped out from the crowd, hands in his pockets, and stood beside her. "This time is different."
Tony raised an eyebrow. "What, you brought backup?"
Before the words were finished, Nick Fury emerged from the side door, his black trench coat billowing, his single eye cold and stern. "Stark, let's find somewhere else to talk."
Tony chuckled and turned to Pepper, whispering, "Don't worry, honey, it seems our director hasn't given up yet."
Pepper sighed helplessly, but nodded nonetheless.
Airport VIP lounge.
Fury placed his hands on the table, staring directly at Tony with his one eye. "The Avengers Initiative need you. As an advisor, you won't interfere with your work normally, but will only intervene when necessary."
Tony leaned back on the sofa, legs crossed, and lazily shook his head. "Not interested."
Fury narrowed his eyes. "The world is changing. Stark, Mutants, alien technology, even the existence of gods... We need to prepare in advance."
What should we prepare?
Tony shrugged. "A supergroup? Sorry, I'm not interested in forming a band."
Fury clenched his fist slightly, but quickly relaxed it. "What about Xiao Han? What's he thinking?"
Tony took off his sunglasses, revealing a pair of slightly mocking eyes. "Fury, you've already been rejected by me once, do you want to be rejected again?"
Fury's face darkened. "He's not you, Stark. Perhaps he understands responsibility better."
Tony chuckled and put his sunglasses back on. "Sorry, he's not interested either."
Fury finally couldn't hold back any longer and said coldly, "What do you have besides that armor? You're not even as good as Natasha beside me."
Tony stopped moving.
He slowly stood up, his gaze sharp behind his sunglasses. "Fury, what did you just say?"
Fury retorted without backing down, "I'm saying, you're just an ordinary person who relies on armor."
Tony paused for a second, then suddenly laughed, "Alright, since you're so eager to talk."
He snapped his the Snap and said to Pepper, "Honey, it looks like we'll have to change our plans."
Then he looked at Fury, his eyes mocking. "Now, to my Malibu villa."
"Let's have a good talk."
