Background

Wanda spent three years imprisoned in a Hydra facility, where she was forced to witness lethal human experimentation. She survived by suppressing her Chaos Magic and protecting herself inside a reinforced glass chamber. The imprisonment left her physically exhausted, fearful of her own power, and deeply traumatized by the deaths of other test subjects. 37 39

Xiao Han rescued Wanda during his assault on the Hydra base. When her magic erupted uncontrollably, he contained it with his Biofield, protected her from Hydra forces, and allowed her to execute Baron Strucker—the man connected to her captivity and experimentation. He then brought her to his Long Island villa and offered her safety, shelter, and the freedom to remain there. 38

At the villa, Wanda began recovering from Hydra’s abuse. Xiao Han explained that her abilities were manifestations of Chaos Magic rather than ordinary mutant powers, gave her a stabilizing seal, and offered to teach her control without demanding that she abandon her anger or choose a path of revenge. 39 42

Her resentment toward Tony Stark was rooted in the Stark Industries missile that killed her parents in Sokovia. After learning that Obadiah Stane had secretly diverted the weapons to Hydra without Tony’s knowledge, Wanda began reassessing the target of her hatred and chose mastery over vengeance. 42

Appearance

Wanda is a red-haired young woman whose eyes and hands glow scarlet when she channels Chaos Magic. Her initial appearance after Hydra captivity is notably haggard, with deep-set eyes and disheveled hair. 39

  • Scarlet energy commonly gathers around her fingers and eyes during emotional stress or spellcasting. 38 42
  • Her eyes turn deep dark red after absorbing Chthon’s chaotic core. 251
  • Her divine transformation grants luminous wings and a golden-red aura during flight. 86
  • Her Infinity Armor is dark red, combining technological plating with magical runes and a crown-like forehead circlet for the Mind Stone. 120

Personality

Wanda initially presents as frightened, guarded, and accustomed to expecting pain from those with power over her. Years of captivity make her suspicious of comfort and promises, but she gradually accepts Xiao Han’s protection after he repeatedly gives her choices rather than orders. 38 39 42

She is determined, studious, and highly responsive to patient guidance. Wanda willingly spends her free time studying magical tomes, persists through repeated failures, and seeks increasingly difficult forms of training. 42 56 57

Her Chaos Magic is closely linked to her emotions. Fear, grief, attraction, and anger can make her magic volatile, while happiness, curiosity, and affection improve her creativity and precision. 50 56 57

After Chthon’s defeat, Wanda defines her strength through loyalty to her chosen family rather than a broader heroic ideal. She wants the power to protect Xiao Han, Kara, Diana, and Koo Ja-yoon, whom she considers family. 257

Abilities & Skills

Chaos Magic

Wanda’s primary power is Chaos Magic: a reality-distorting force tied to her emotions, mental strength, and will.

  • Produces scarlet energy blasts, barriers, weapons, chains, and telekinetic force. 42 102 108
  • Creates and transforms matter, including a red bird, a singing construct, and altered landscapes. 50 162
  • Can remove or alter physical properties through reality manipulation, such as erasing Black Bolt’s mouth. 205
  • Can perceive and influence reality’s underlying rules after her advanced awakening. 162
  • Is vulnerable to emotional instability, traumatic memories, and external corruption. 50 128 246

Reality Warping

Wanda can reshape existing matter and, with sufficient control, create objects from imagination.

  • Transforms a metal target into a steel rose and later a flying red bird. 50
  • Warps battlefields, exposes Loki’s true body through his illusions, and counters psychic interference. 108 205
  • Demonstrates the capacity to alter laws, fold space, create dimensions, and erase concepts in theory. 162
  • Uses reality manipulation defensively to restore damage caused by Doctor Doom’s Time Reversal. 108

Spatial and Dimensional Magic

Wanda’s magic can manipulate space and break dimensional boundaries.

  • Learns to create increasingly stable teleportation portals. 68
  • Accidentally opens a portal into another universe, revealing an innate ability to tear through dimensional barriers. 68
  • Travels through multiversal rifts during the Darkhold-corruption crisis. 128 129
  • Removes a patch of land from time’s flow to protect her companions from a reality-destroying collision. 324

Reality Anchoring

Wanda can resist and reverse externally altered reality.

  • Perceives that Doctor Doom’s Time Reversal has restored destroyed objects and erased injuries. 108
  • Restores the consequences of the reversal, returning wounds and damage while severing Doom’s control over the Time Machine. 108

Divine Physiology

A serum stabilized through Wanda’s Chaos Magic merges divine power into her body.

  • Casual strike measured at approximately 700,000 tons of force. 85
  • Reaches short-distance speeds of approximately 0.6 times the speed of light. 85
  • Gains flight through gravity manipulation and manifested luminous wings. 86
  • Can survive extreme environments and is expected to live for thousands of years without aging. 85 86
  • Her divine Chaos barrier partially negates rather than merely blocks physical and energy attacks. 86

Mind Stone Resonance

Wanda has a natural connection to the Mind Stone.

  • Uses it to calm, organize, and explore her Chaos Magic. 39 49 50
  • Experiences alternate memories and possible futures through the Stone. 50
  • Uses the Mind Stone alongside Xiao Han to confront the Darkhold’s corruption. 129

Soul-Level Attacks

Through the Soul Stone installed in her Infinity Armor, Wanda can target an enemy’s consciousness or soul directly. 120

Chthon’s Chaos Source

After absorbing Chthon’s core energy, Wanda becomes a continuing conduit for chaotic energy.

  • Her power increases to more than one hundred times its previous level. 251
  • She continues absorbing Chaos energy from the universe after Chthon’s death. 251 252
  • Her ordinary power is described as approaching that of Eternity and Infinity, though it remains dangerous without control. 257
