Lin En led Phoros through the corridors of the Ministry of Military Affairs district.
Phoros walked behind him and said in a low voice, "My lord, a lot of people are watching us."
Without looking back, Lin En kept walking at his usual pace. "Let them watch. We're standing here openly and honorably. Are we supposed to be afraid of other people looking?"
Phoros was silent for a moment, then nodded. "Understood."
They were the honorable Lamenters. They had no need to feel uneasy under the scrutiny of others.
At the end of the corridor, sunlight streamed down through the high windows, bathing the passage in gold.
Beyond the corridor lay the Lamenters' base on Terra.
Terra had just opened a base for the Lamenters. It was a place approved by the Regent.
It was not particularly large—just a small courtyard sectioned off from the bases of the other Chapters.
But every inch of Terra was precious, and even this small courtyard represented recognition of the Lamenters.
The Chapter bases stood in the northeastern corner of the outer palace of the Terra Palace, right beside the passage used for the daily rotations of the Adeptus Custodes. Normally, the area was filled with representatives of the Chapters stationed on Terra and officials from the Ministry of Military Affairs coming and going.
With a clerk guiding them, Lin En led Phoros into the cluster of buildings and finally stopped before an iron door.
It was merely a simple two-story stone building with an unadorned design, two wrought-iron gates outside, and a row of wrought-iron railings.
The building had small windows and thick walls, giving it the distinct style of a Western fortress.
"Special Envoy, this is the place." The clerk led them to the door.
"Thank you." Lin En nodded.
