Green's memories contained no shortage of such common knowledge, but something strange that could defeat an adventurer squad and kill an advanced apprentice knight was very likely a full-fledged extraordinary being.
So the question was, what was that "strange thing" pursuing the adventurer squad for?
The answer was obvious: those three female elves!
Green had thought of it, and Vincent had thought of it as well. His expression immediately turned ugly.
The Wilson Family might be one of Landon City's foremost noble houses, but when facing something strange lurking in the shadows, capable of killing an advanced apprentice knight, Vincent had to carefully weigh the gains and losses. Was it truly worth provoking a powerful enemy for the sake of a personal indulgence?
After a moment, Vincent let out a breath and rose to his feet. "Forget it. It's not worth provoking an unknown strange thing over a toy." Having said that, he was decisive indeed. He did not even spare the three elves another glance before turning and walking straight out.
Being able to restrain his desires and calmly make a choice made Green regard this Wilson heir more highly. Even so, after leaving, Vincent was clearly in low spirits and hurried back to Wilson Castle to catch up on sleep.
Green was happy to have some peace and quiet. He returned alone to his residence outside the castle, and this time, no one disturbed him as he took out that magical item.
It was a bone whistle as white as jade. He did not know what kind of bone it had been made from, but it felt rather weighty in his hand and had a metallic texture. One glance was enough to tell that it was no ordinary object. Unfortunately, it had already snapped in half, leaving only one fragment.
It was Green's first time seeing a magical item in this world. Holding it in his hand, he was just about to study it carefully when his expression suddenly froze! A faint pale-blue halo had actually appeared around the half-broken bone whistle in his hand. The halo resembled misty clouds as it seeped into his palm on its own, instantly making him feel as though he were holding a lump of ice.
Green uttered a surprised "Huh." He had not expected this to happen. After standing there in a brief daze, he looked again and saw that, as the blue halo dissipated, the half-broken bone whistle rapidly weathered away into a small pinch of powder, slipping through the gaps between his fingers.
"What just happened? There's no doubt that the bone whistle was a magical item. It had been in Green Wilson's hands for years, so why did it shatter the moment it came into mine? And what was that blue light just now? It seemed to have been absorbed by my body." Green was full of doubt as he stared blankly at his palm. The white powder had already scattered away completely. Even if he tried to grasp it, it was useless. The powder seemed to possess a faint repulsive force, and the particles themselves were so tiny and slippery that they were difficult to catch.
At the same time, Green did not know whether it was an illusion, but he seemed to hear two faint beeps in his mind, followed by a sound like gears turning.
At first, Green paid little attention to the two beeps, but there was simply no ignoring the sound of gears that followed.
"What was that sound? Could it be an auditory hallucination?" Green suspected it was related to the bone whistle that had just shattered, and unease rose in his heart. Yet after waiting for a moment, there was no further movement.
Just as he was about to breathe a sigh of relief, there was suddenly a bang, like a firecracker exploding. Immediately afterward, a string of rhythmic electronic tones surfaced in his mind. Then the world spun around him as though he had fallen into an abyss. Green's vision went black, and when he regained consciousness, he was unexpectedly high in the air, looking down upon the ground. Below him lay the ruins of a city, where only one or two buildings remained intact amid the broken walls and rubble.
"Holy shit! Save me~~~"
Green had suddenly appeared hundreds of meters in the air. He was so terrified that his mind went blank, and he let out a scream. Instinctively, he tried to flail his arms and legs, only to discover in shock that he had no physical body at all!
Several minutes later, once he had calmed down, he discovered that this was not the real world. Only his consciousness had entered this unknown space.
At the same time, an abstract character portrait appeared in the upper-left corner of his vision. When he focused on it, the portrait flickered slightly, and a data panel extended to the right:
Name: Xu Mu (Green Wilson) Class: Necromancer Level: Beginner Apprentice Skills: None
Seeing this data panel, as well as the vaguely familiar building ruins below, Green suddenly realized, "Th-this... isn't this the strategy game on my phone? Did it transmigrate with me too? But I played a knight. Why have I become a necromancer?"
Before transmigrating, Green had played a mobile strategy game similar to Heroes of Might and Magic, where he upgraded buildings, churned out troops, and waged wars. He had never expected the interface of that game to appear in his mind after transmigrating! But his class had become necromancer. It was probably because his body had turned into a lich, limiting his class, and the game system had automatically designated him as a necromancer.
"A cheat! This is definitely the cheat I got from transmigrating!" Green grew excited, and his thoughts immediately shifted.
In the next instant, it was as though he had fallen from the sky. His viewpoint rapidly descended, the city ruins below swiftly enlarging. In the blink of an eye, he had entered a gray-black palace.
In the game, the faction corresponding to necromancers was the Graveyard. This gray-black palace was the Graveyard's town hall, and also one of the few buildings in the entire Graveyard ruin that had remained intact.
As Green entered the hall, the originally battered and dilapidated town hall automatically restored itself to pristine condition.
Green searched around for a while but found nothing. With another shift of thought, he arrived at the only other remaining building in the Graveyard.
It was a cemetery covering more than ten acres. Broken tombstones stood everywhere, corpse-fires flickered, and crows shrieked like ghosts, sending chills down one's spine.
In the game, this place produced the lowest-tier undead creatures—Skeleton soldiers. Their combat strength was average, and they relied entirely on superior numbers.
Green had come here eagerly, wanting to test whether the undead creatures produced by the Graveyard could be projected into reality. If they could not enter the real world, then this would be nothing but empty joy. Even if he had gained this Graveyard for free, he could only use it to amuse himself.
Yet when the moment came, Green was dumbfounded.
This "Graveyard" that had transmigrated with him was no longer a game. There was no display for resources such as gold, lumber, or stone. Though five skeleton soldiers stood in the cemetery, there was no way to recruit them.
After studying it for half a day without results, Green could only give up and temporarily exit the Graveyard interface. His body trembled as his consciousness returned.
Rubbing his temples, Green did not know whether it was because he was unused to it the first time, but he felt a faint prickling pain around them. He took out his pocket watch and checked the time. From when he lost consciousness to when he returned, a little over ten minutes had passed.
Green frowned and mused inwardly, The time ratio is about the same! It's not the kind where a day passes inside while only an instant passes outside. It looks like I should avoid having anyone around whenever I enter the Graveyard. Otherwise, suddenly losing consciousness would scare people half to death. But being unable to recruit troops normally in the Graveyard is a major problem. What exactly caused it? Earlier, I must have activated the Graveyard by touching the bone whistle and absorbing the energy within it. Could it be that the bone whistle did not contain enough energy, and the Graveyard's functions have not been fully activated yet?
Green guessed and speculated, arriving at this hypothesis. As for whether it was truly as he believed, he would have to find another magical item and test whether it could fully activate the Graveyard's functions.
