The Evil Spirit passed through the entrance sealed by iron gates. There were no magical restrictions on the gates, and it slipped through without obstruction.
Inside was a passage that went straight down for about twenty meters before turning horizontal. After another dozen or so meters, it opened into a domed space more than fifty meters in diameter.
This should have been a tomb. Directly beneath the dome stood an ancient pyramid over ten meters tall, surrounded by numerous burial offerings. After who knew how many years, nearly all of them had rotted away.
Around the pyramid, blue dye had been used to draw a massive circular magic array enclosing it.
However, the gathering of Tower of Yin Spirits core members Green had expected did not appear. There was only a young man in his twenties beneath the pyramid, accompanied by two girls with fairly pretty features.
The young man was only in his twenties, but he wore an infuriatingly smug expression, acting all high and mighty as he looked down on the two girls fawning over him, as though being favored by him was the greatest honor they could receive. The girls' eyes were vacant, their minds unclear. It was as if nothing else in the world mattered anymore.
Green had no interest in admiring the scene. He directly ordered Maxim to enter the pyramid.
This structure, suspected to be an ancient tomb, had once been reinforced with magic. Yet the merciless passage of time had worn everything away. The magic array surrounding the pyramid had been damaged, and the magical runes carved across its surface had become mottled and indistinct, no longer able to perform their original functions.
Yet at that moment, Green, who was in his inn room, frowned slightly. As Maxim drew closer and closer to the pyramid, he sensed his connection with the Evil Spirit weakening. He was even close to losing visual synchronization altogether. Green was startled and quickly ordered the Evil Spirit to retreat. His only Level 3 elite unit could not be allowed to suffer an accident. After hesitating briefly, he left the inn as well, avoiding the townspeople as much as possible while slipping into the ceramic factory.
When Green followed the route to the outside of that office building with its doors and windows sealed shut, Maxim had also returned to his side.
Since the underground pyramid still retained certain magic arrays that could block Green's remote control over undead creatures, Green simply stopped investigating its interior and began making his move instead. First, he would grind some mobs.
With a bang, the Hard-Skin Ghoul Green had summoned tore off one of the thick wooden boards nailed over the office building's windows, revealing a suspicious opening large enough for one person to pass through.
Green was fairly nimble. After all, this body had received a noble education from childhood. Before the Lineage had completely fallen into ruin, he had even attended a knight academy for two years. His physical condition was therefore quite good among ordinary humans.
The Evil Spirit had scouted the area while invisible earlier. This was the southeast corner of the abandoned office building, with no one nearby and a blind spot in the line of sight. Green's entrance attracted no attention.
Green crawled through the opening. Before him was only the Hard-Skin Ghoul, while Maxim floated overhead. He had not summoned the other undead creatures for the time being. Summoning an undead force of over thirty people all at once would make far too much commotion and would surely alert the enemy. It was not that he feared being surrounded by too many enemies; he feared that the Tower of Yin Spirits' superhumans would notice something wrong and scatter like birds and beasts. Every one of them was a share of Psychic Energy that belonged to him.
After entering, Green proceeded down the corridor. As he passed the restroom, he happened to hear sounds coming from the men's room, mixed with curses such as "bitch" and "slut."
Green raised an eyebrow and stopped. Following the sound with his gaze, he ordered the Ghoul forward. It was just right to take out this lone target first and start off with a victory.
The Hard-Skin Ghoul let out a low growl and immediately rushed inside. A bang followed, likely the sound of it smashing through the wooden door of a restroom stall, followed by a short scream.
When Green entered, he saw that the door of one stall in the men's room had been shattered. A lean man in his thirties, wearing leather armor on his upper body and nothing below the waist, lay in a pool of blood with three bloody holes in his chest.
Green was no longer seeing a corpse for the first time, and he felt no discomfort. Looking farther inside, he saw a girl covered in wounds staring blankly ahead within the stall. Like a doll, she merely gave a foolish, hollow laugh. Green knew that this girl was completely ruined, reduced to a living corpse for others' amusement.
Green frowned. He had not wanted to slaughter indiscriminately, but seeing this girl, only sixteen or seventeen and worse off than dead, he hesitated. In the end, he sighed and still ordered Maxim to give her a quick death.
Upon receiving the order, the Evil Spirit swiftly turned into a streak of white shadow and charged at the girl, passing directly through her chest. It left no wound, but in that instant, the girl's expression froze. It seemed that before death, she had regained her awareness, and a trace of relieved release appeared in her eyes.
That was how Evil Spirits attacked: their spirit bodies attacked the soul without harming the flesh.
Green did not look at the girl again. His gaze fell once more upon the dead man, and he reached out to press a hand against him. Just as he had expected, the Graveyard immediately sent a notification that Psychic Energy had been discovered. Green absorbed it at once, gaining forty Psychic Energy. Judging from the man's attire, he should have been a Junior Apprentice Knight.
After harvesting the Psychic Energy, Green did not forget to search the body. Unfortunately, the man had no other magical items on him, only an antique-style pistol that was particularly eye-catching.
The moment Green grasped it, his eyes lit up. According to the Graveyard's prompt, this antique pistol also contained Psychic Energy—and quite a lot of it, nearly eight hundred points!
This time, Green was in no hurry to absorb the Psychic Energy. Instead, he carefully picked up the pistol and examined it. If it had been anything else, he would have absorbed it without hesitation, but this was a gun. Although a staff was standard equipment for a mage, in this age of firearms, it was hardly strange for a mage to carry a pistol. What was more, this was an enchanted firearm reinforced with Psychic Energy.
Green was delighted. He gripped the handle and tested its feel, then swung out the cylinder to inspect the bullets inside. The cylinder had seven chambers, all of them loaded and ready to fire at any time. Green was thankful for his good luck. If this man had not been so focused on venting his lust and so slow to react, then with even a little vigilance, he could have drawn his gun and fired within a fraction of a second. Even if he missed Green, he could have drawn his companions over to surround him.
Green pushed the cylinder back in, raised the gun, aimed it around, and tried to get a feel for firing it.
In his previous life, he had scored full marks in shooting during university military training and had joined the school shooting team. After transmigrating, the original owner of this body, Green Wilson, had also received firearms training. Green was fairly confident in his pistol shooting.
