"What's going on?" Major General Como immediately dropped the barrier shielding him and Green, his expression grave.
"Sir, violent psychic energy fluctuations have suddenly appeared around us..." the officer reported. "They're still growing stronger."
"What?" Major General Como's face changed. He immediately ordered, "Full speed ahead! Get us out of here!"
"Yes, sir!" everyone on the bridge answered in unison, pushing the airship's power core to its limit.
But just then, a powerful suction force surged from the huge hole the giant skeleton had emerged from. Like an invisible lasso, it caught the airship and dragged it down.
"Quick! Full power, break free! Fire the main cannon downward!" Major General Como shouted.
The power core was already at its limit, yet the airship still could not escape. The main cannon's shots vanished into the hole without so much as a ripple.
The suction showed no sign of weakening. It only grew stronger, dragging them down harder.
As the airship sank lower and escape became impossible, Major General Como frowned and considered ordering everyone to abandon ship.
But the suction beneath them was so strong that, even if he gave the order, no one besides him and Green would likely get away. They were better off staying aboard. At least his officers and crew would be safe until the shield failed.
Major General Como glanced at Green, leaving him to make his own choice.
As captain, however, Major General Como could only be the last to leave, even if they abandoned ship. He would never leave everyone aboard and flee alone.
Even if he survived, he would face a military court afterward.
