Background / History

Mei was already one of Kirigakure’s most capable Jonin during the Third Shinobi World War. She possessed both Lava Release and Boil Release and was strong enough to challenge Long Ye, whose Explosion Release could destroy her Water Dragon Bullet and Lava Fist. Although she initially attempted to recruit him into Kirigakure, his mocking flirtation convinced her that he was not negotiating seriously, and the encounter resumed as a lethal battle 37.

She later confronted Long Ye and Shisui together. Shisui’s Sharingan genjutsu briefly trapped her, but Mei immediately escaped by vaporizing the illusion with boiling acidic mist. Recognizing that defeating both opponents would be difficult, she withdrew rather than continue the fight 38.

During Kirigakure’s diplomatic confrontation with Konoha, Mei was ordered to fight Long Ye after he defeated Hachishi. She restrained her power to avoid destroying the village, while Long Ye deliberately escalated the battle to pressure the Mizukage into ending it. Mei then proposed that Long Ye recover one of Kirigakure’s missing Seven Ninja Swords, preventing the Mizukage from crippling him and preserving the possibility of peace talks 47.
