Background and History

The Beasts Pirates ruled Wano through military occupation and resource extraction. Their factories polluted regions such as Kuri, while their weapons and poison-gas production supplied both the crew’s military campaigns and overseas underworld trade. Queen the Plague’s poison-gas weapons were particularly feared. 4

When Luo Ji declared himself “Gol D. Luo Ji” in Udon, Beasts Pirates grunts and allied yakuza attacked him. He killed more than one hundred attackers before Queen and Babanuki arrived, prompting Queen to order a search. 8

Kaido later departed Wano with the crew’s principal combat forces for a major expedition against the Red Hair Pirates and islands that had changed allegiance. The absence of the All-Stars, Tobi Roppo, and much of the main force left Onigashima, Udon, and Wano’s wider occupation infrastructure vulnerable. 8 10 11

Luo Ji exploited that opening to raid Onigashima, free Yamato, seize Udon’s Sea-Prism Stone stockpile, and help ignite a Wano-wide rebellion alongside Yamato and Fire Fist Ace. The crew’s remaining officers were forced to divide their already limited forces between Onigashima, Udon, and the Flower Capital. 11 13 15 16

After the initial collapse of Orochi’s regime and the temporary loss of Onigashima, Kaido returned ahead of the main fleet. The Beasts Pirates crushed the restoration movement, killed thousands of samurai and ninja, captured Ashura Doji, and installed Fukurokuju as acting shogun to keep Wano’s factories and mines operational. This retaliatory occupation became known as Wano’s “Seven-Day Restoration.” 20

Wano Occupation

The Beasts Pirates maintained Wano’s factory system, controlled Udon’s Sea-Prism Stone production, and supported Orochi’s regime. Their occupation impoverished areas such as Amigasa Village and enforced labor throughout the country. 4 13

Expedition Against the Red Hair Pirates

Kaido’s forces launched an expedition to punish the Red Hair Pirates and islands that had abandoned Beasts Pirates protection. Kaido, the All-Stars, Tobi Roppo, and other officers became locked in a prolonged conflict with Shanks’ forces, preventing a quick response to Wano’s rebellion. 8 15 17

Onigashima and Udon Raids

Luo Ji assaulted Onigashima with Kazenbo, seawater, ink arrows, and falling boulders while the remaining garrison lacked sufficient aerial countermeasures. Yamato intervened, then departed with Luo Ji after he removed her explosive Sea-Prism Stone shackles. 11 12

At Udon, Ace, Yamato, and Luo Ji defeated the mine’s defenders, freed prisoners, and removed much of its Sea-Prism Stone stockpile. The loss of Udon became a catalyst for the wider rebellion. 13 14 15

Seven-Day Restoration

Wano’s forces temporarily overwhelmed the depleted Beasts Pirates garrison at Onigashima, killing thousands and looting the stronghold. Kaido’s return reversed the victory: the restoration forces were broken, Wano was placed under stricter control, and Fukurokuju became Kaido’s acting shogun. 20

Pursuit of the Luo Ji Pirates

After Yamato joined Luo Ji’s crew and helped destroy six Beasts Pirates ships, Kaido disowned her and intensified efforts to capture the new pirate crew. The organization raised Underground World bounties on Luo Ji and Yamato, later reaching 500 million and 1.2 billion Beli respectively. 21 28

On Kura Island, the crew interrogated and tortured Kojiro for information about Luo Ji’s group. The Mikami family preserved its new royal status by abandoning him and offering wealth to the Beasts Pirates. 28
