Background / History

Yamato is Kaido’s daughter and was kept on Onigashima under explosive Seastone restraints. Inspired by Kozuki Oden’s logbook, she dreamed of leaving Wano, sailing the world, and living as freely as Oden, Whitebeard, and Roger. Kaido instead intended to make her the shogun of Wano 10 12.

Luo Ji arrived on Onigashima while the Beasts Pirates were away on expedition. Yamato confronted him after recognizing his strength, his use of Oden’s two-sword style, and his self-proclaimed “Gol D.” name. She regarded their meeting as a fated opportunity to escape Wano and immediately asked him to take her to sea 11.

Luo Ji recruited Yamato as his vice-captain by promising her a life of adventure. He then dismantled the detonation mechanisms inside her handcuffs. When the discarded restraints exploded, Yamato learned that Kaido had genuinely placed bombs on her wrists. Luo Ji comforted her and declared that she was now free and that he would be her family 12.

After joining the Luo Ji Pirates, Yamato helped liberate the Udon Seastone Mine, attack Orochi’s forces, and support the rebellion in Wano. She fought alongside Luo Ji and Ace during the assault on the Flower Capital and used her Conqueror’s Haki to break the morale of the shogunate’s forces 13 16 17.

Following the apparent restoration of the Kozuki regime, Yamato left Wano with Luo Ji and Tama. She finally began the seafaring adventure she had wanted for years, although she initially believed that Wano had been completely liberated despite Kaido remaining a threat 18 19.

Appearance

Yamato normally fights with a large spiked kanabo and is frequently associated with a horned demon mask. Her Mythical Zoan transformation gives her the appearance of a massive white wolf, while her hybrid form combines her humanoid body with wolf-like features 11 25.

On Kura Island, this outlook led her to attack the royal family before properly investigating the situation 25 27.

Yamato is also fiercely loyal to her chosen family. She immediately accepts Luo Ji as her captain, offers to teach him everything she knows, and reacts with overwhelming joy when he awakens his Conqueror’s Haki 12 30. Under Luo Ji’s influence, she begins moving beyond simply imitating Oden and declares that she wants to surpass him 26.
