Background

According to Pluton's account, Imu was the child of the East Domain's governor during the era of the Ancient Kingdom, later identified as Totto Land. His father secretly sabotaged the Pioneers' assault on the Red Line by replacing their energy source with False Mother Flame, then attempted a coup when the deception risked exposure. The coup failed after his allies abandoned him, and the young Imu witnessed his father's downfall. 257

Fifty years later, Imu allegedly reclaimed the East Domain through his father's political legacy, concealed his identity, and activated Athena. Athena annihilated the Central Domain before devastating the remaining domains, ending Totto Land's civilization and leaving hundreds of millions of survivors under Imu's new order. 257

With the future Five Elders at his side, Imu conquered surviving regions through Athena's power, murdered scholars and scientists, and imposed a racial hierarchy benefiting the Celestial Dragons and the Twenty Royal Families. Joy Boy later led oppressed peoples—including Giants and Lunarians—against this regime, but Imu's alliance defeated the rebellion through a rear assault. 258

Vegapunk theorizes that Imu intends to repeatedly use the ancient island-destroying weapon powered by the Mother Flame against rebellious nations. In this theory, the resulting sea-level rise would eventually submerge the world, while the Red Line and its vast bridges would preserve Celestial Dragon rule over dependent survivors. 194 195
