Background / History

Woli is a member of the Wise Ape tribe, a race known for exceptional intelligence 1 2. Decades prior to the main timeline, the World Government exterminated the Wise Ape tribe because of their connections to Rocks, leaving Woli as the last surviving member 1 2. Harboring a deep, lifelong hatred for the World Government and the Celestial Dragons, Woli lived in isolation on a remote island within the Dead Silence Sea 1 4.

Ten years prior to Swain setting sail, Woli intercepted CP0 while they were transporting a powerful azure Devil Fruit—the Sea Fruit—and successfully hijacked it 3 14 15. While escaping, he discovered an abandoned infant, Rocks D. Swain, on a deserted island 1 2 3. Initially considering using the child as an instrument of revenge against the World Government, Woli ultimately took Swain in and raised him as his own grandson/family 1 3 15.

Woli spent over a decade teaching Swain to read, writing, history, philosophy, and the fundamentals of combat 4 5 6. When a CP0 agent named Back tracked Woli down and attacked Swain, Woli intervened, defeated the agent effortlessly, and subsequently executed him to protect Swain 13 14 15. After Swain awakened Conqueror's Haki and mastered the Sea Fruit, Woli repaired a small boat and allowed thirteen-year-old Swain to set sail to pursue his own path 15 16.
