"Now you know I wasn't lying to you." Seeing Thor's gloomy, furious expression, The Ancient One leisurely fanned herself with her little fan and slowly said:
"From now on, you will remain at Kamar-Taj until you become a qualified king. Oh, right, his name is Zhang Yang. He is your senior brother and also my current personal disciple."
The future Sorcerer Supreme.
However, The Ancient One did not say those last words aloud.
It was merely what she had decided in her heart.
There was no denying that Zhang Yang's talent was indeed the strongest she had ever seen.
Even stronger than Doctor Strange.
After The Ancient One finished speaking, Thor and Zhang Yang both wore identical expressions of surprise.
Zhang Yang: ??
So this meant...
Thor had become his junior brother?!
"Junior brother?! No! I want to be the senior one!"
It seemed Thor had accepted the fact that his father had abandoned him at Kamar-Taj.
He did not say anything more about it.
But when he heard The Ancient One say he was the junior brother, Thor was displeased.
Though he did not understand what difference there was between senior and junior brothers at Kamar-Taj, hearing the word "junior" annoyed him.
He was the prince of Asgard!
In Asgard, he was always the older brother!
At Kamar-Taj, he had to be the senior one at the very least!
"I have no problem staying at Kamar-Taj, but I want to be the eldest!" Thor said, raising his chin.
"You entered after Zhang Yang, so naturally, you are the junior brother." The Ancient One rejected Thor's request.
"But I'm stronger than him!" Thor said bluntly. "In Asgard, the winner is king! Strength is what matters!"
As he spoke, Thor even flexed his bulging biceps.
Mordo: ...
Wong: ...
The Ancient One: ...
That was not necessarily true.
Sometimes, those with well-developed muscles had simple minds.
Other people might indeed not be Thor's match.
But Zhang Yang was a freak, a magical prodigy. That was harder to say.
"By the rules, you can only be the junior brother. Moreover, you are currently the youngest disciple in all of Kamar-Taj," The Ancient One said.
Thor was displeased by that.
After sizing Zhang Yang up and down, Thor snorted. "Let him fight me. Whoever wins gets to be the senior one!"
The Ancient One smiled faintly again. "Actual combat training is indeed a good suggestion, but let's wait until your injuries have healed."
After saying that, The Ancient One left, fanning herself with her exquisite little fan.
Seeing this, Wong followed behind her.
Zhang Yang had intended to leave as well, but Thor called out to him before he could go. "Hey! Mortal, your name is Zhang Yang, right?"
Zhang Yang froze for a moment. He nodded at Thor, his brows furrowing.
Mortal?
What kind of condescending form of address was that?!
"Fight me. Whoever wins gets to be the senior one. How about it?" Thor challenged Zhang Yang while lying on the bed.
At the mention of a fight, Mordo shuddered beside them.
He seemed to recall the terror of sparring with Zhang Yang before.
"Are you challenging me?" Zhang Yang asked Thor.
"Yes!" Thor raised his chin.
The moment fighting was mentioned, Thor was fired up all over.
"Fine. But we'll wait until your injuries have healed." Zhang Yang nodded, accepting the challenge.
"Alright, kid. You're straightforward enough," Thor said. Perhaps tugging at his rear had hurt, because he covered his butt with one hand, his face twisting in pain.
Zhang Yang shrugged and prepared to leave with Gungnir.
Suddenly, Thor seemed to remember something and asked Zhang Yang, "Hey, kid, do you know who did this to my butt?"
"Uh..." Zhang Yang suddenly looked awkward at Thor's question.
But Thor did not seem to notice that detail and continued:
"Mjolnir couldn't have suddenly exploded! Besides feeling like my butt was blown up, I also felt a sharp sting. I guessed that something pierced through Mjolnir and then stabbed into my butt. Otherwise, I wouldn't have felt that."
Thor analyzed the situation seriously.
Though anyone with eyes could tell from his analysis at a glance.
For Thor's brain to analyze things to this extent was already quite impressive.
As he spoke, Thor's gaze sharpened, and he said angrily, "If I find out who did this to my butt, I'll kill him."
"..." Zhang Yang said, "Do you think the tip of this Gungnir could fit into the hole in your butt wound?"
Thor: ???
After saying that, Zhang Yang left with Gungnir.
Thor frowned and asked Mordo beside him, "What did he mean by that?"
"I don't know." Mordo shook his head, looking calm and composed.
But inwardly, he could not help sighing. He really is a simple-minded guy with well-developed limbs.
Thor waved a hand and said unhappily, "So mysterious. That Zhang Yang just now, did you see how skinny he was? He looked malnourished. I bet one punch from me would make him cry for a long time."
Mordo sighed. "Sigh, you really are too young."
It was hard to say who would end up crying.
Thor looked at Mordo in confusion. "You people are so strange."
Kamar-Taj Library.
Wong listened to Beyoncé's music while reading a book.
Suddenly, he sensed someone entering. Looking up, he realized it was Zhang Yang.
"It's so late. Are you here to borrow books?" Seeing Zhang Yang, Wong took off his headphones and asked.
Mordo had thought Zhang Yang had gone to sleep after they had just brought Thor out, so Wong was rather surprised to see Zhang Yang come to the Kamar-Taj Library.
"Mm." Zhang Yang bowed to Wong.
Just then, a mage walked out of the reading room. "Wong, I'm borrowing these."
Zhang Yang looked up. The mage before him was not entirely unfamiliar, but neither was he familiar.
If Zhang Yang remembered correctly, his name seemed to be Kaecilius?
"Take them." After checking the books Kaecilius had taken, Wong said.
The expression on his face had clearly turned much colder, and his tone was not particularly pleasant.
It seemed Wong disliked him greatly.
Kaecilius nodded and picked up the books from the table, seemingly preparing to leave.
Just then, Wong sternly said to Kaecilius, "Kaecilius, I must remind you that there are some things you are not allowed to touch."
Chapter 74
Wong's rebuke made Kaecilius stop in his tracks.
He turned around with a smile on his face and bowed to Wong. "Understood, Arch-Sorcerer. I will remember your words."
After saying that, Kaecilius looked at Zhang Yang and smiled. "Work hard, junior brother."
Then he left without looking back.
Watching Kaecilius leave, Zhang Yang did not know why, but a strange feeling rose in his heart.
He always felt that there was something deeply uncomfortable about the Arch-Sorcerer named Kaecilius.
"What book do you want to borrow?" As Zhang Yang was thinking, Wong's sudden words pulled him back. "You do not need to watch him. Right now, you only need to study magic properly. You and he are not the same kind of people."
Zhang Yang responded blankly, then said to Wong, "Oh, right, Wong, I want to borrow a book about Alchemy."
"Alchemy?" Wong froze. "Why do you want to borrow that book?"
Wong seemed rather surprised by the book Zhang Yang wanted to borrow.
"I want to make a magical artifact, but Senior Brother Berkeley said that to make one, I first have to learn Alchemy," Zhang Yang answered honestly.
"Make a magical artifact? Isn't your magical artifact Gungnir?" Wong was stunned again.
With such a powerful magical artifact already in hand, what more did he need to make one for?
"Uh, that thing is too troublesome. I think I need a new magical artifact for everyday carrying," Zhang Yang said.
That surprised Wong somewhat. "Are you complaining about Gungnir? I really hope Odin will not be angered to death by you."
Zhang Yang shrugged.
Was he not allowed to say it was inconvenient?
"Alright." Seeing how insistent Zhang Yang was, Wong said, "But I don't think Berkeley told you that very few mages learn Alchemy. At Kamar-Taj, Alchemy is an extremely unpopular form of magic. Hardly any mages learn it."
No one learned it?
Zhang Yang was somewhat confused.
A form of magic that could create magical artifacts sounded so powerful, yet hardly any mages learned it?
That was rather strange!
Zhang Yang could not help asking, "Why?"
Wong said, "Because using Alchemy consumes the user's own magical energy."
It consumed one's own magical energy?
That kind of magic sounded rather terrible.
As Zhang Yang was thinking, Wong stood up and said to him, "Come with me."
With that, Wong walked deeper into the Kamar-Taj Library, and Zhang Yang followed closely behind.
As they walked through the Kamar-Taj Library, Wong seemed to be searching for something. At the same time, he continued explaining to Zhang Yang:
"Alchemy is a type of Mystic Arts passed down from the Middle Ages. It combines chemical principles with magic."
"It was mainly used to turn base metals into precious metals, namely gold. But later, through research and development, when combined with magic, Alchemy advanced greatly. Its main use now is to create magical artifacts."
"Essentially, Alchemy is not profound, nor is it difficult to learn. However, there are conditions for using this magic. You must know that using Alchemy consumes the user's own magic. Furthermore, to create a good magical artifact, the user must possess extremely precise control."
"So, if your own magical energy is not powerful enough, you simply cannot use Alchemy."
Wong explained.
