The Uchiha District was already bustling at dawn. Uchiha Jin was not attending today's meeting; he showed up outside Fugaku's home early that morning.
"Konoha has been quiet these past few days. The Hokage Faction won't stand by and watch the Uchiha gain an Elder. They're bound to find a way to disrupt it.
I have to attend the meeting this morning, so I probably won't make it to the Security Force. Send out more ninja on patrol, and don't let your guard down."
Jin's expression turned grave. "Don't worry. I'll do everything I can to prevent anything from going wrong. I'll personally lead a patrol this morning."
Fugaku smiled. "You don't have to be so serious. If something does happen, there's only so much we can do. The enemy is hidden while we're out in the open. Anything is possible.
I'm prepared for that, and I've already decided how to respond."
Jin nodded. Fugaku's words eased much of the pressure he felt. Fugaku had sent out the entire Assassination Team this time, with each member leading a squad of Security Force members on patrol.
Today's meeting required no show of hands. Uchiha Tenjo was simply making preparations to step down in a little over twenty days.
Most of the Uchiha leadership had arrived in the meeting room. Uchiha Tenjo looked full of energy today.
Several senior members had received the news in advance. Uchiha Saki now stood beside Fugaku.
"Fugaku, we old fellows will be counting on you to look after us from now on."
Fugaku smiled. "You're joking, Senior Saki. You're the backbone of the Uchiha, the pillars of our clan. You've all earned great honors for it.
If I do anything wrong in the future, or anything that displeases you, please guide me and bear with me."
