The two men carefully reviewed the Uchiha's interrogation results. Homura glanced over them and said, "They actually tried to kidnap Kushina Uzumaki."
Fugaku understood his shock. After all, Kushina Uzumaki was Konoha's Nine-Tails Jinchūriki, and only a few of Konoha's senior officials knew it.
Those people were either heads of important departments or clan heads of major families. Most people would never believe that one of them had betrayed Konoha and given the Cloud shinobi information about the Jinchūriki.
"Our Security Force has come up with two possibilities regarding the Cloud shinobi's attempt to capture Kushina," Fugaku said. "One is that the Kumogakure Senior Officials know she's a Jinchūriki but deliberately kept it from the Ninja they sent on the mission.
"After all, every Ninja Village keeps its Jinchūriki secret. Without a high enough rank, you wouldn't know the details, even if the Jinchūriki belonged to another nation.
"The other possibility is that Kumogakure doesn't know Kushina is a Jinchūriki at all. This may have been a coincidence, and their main reason for targeting her was the Uzumaki Clan's unusual constitution.
"That's what makes this so troublesome. An infiltration of Konoha must have had the Third Raikage's approval. If even the Kumogakure Senior Officials don't know, it'll be much harder to get to the bottom of this.
"The Third Raikage gave the order, but we have no way to confirm what information he had. Not now, at least. None of us can go to Kumogakure and bring him back for questioning."
Homura rubbed his brow. "It seems we'll have to assign ANBU members to protect her discreetly. Before she died, Lady Mito personally asked us to give Kushina a happy childhood.
"Now it seems that won't be easy. We've failed her."
"You're being too hard on yourself. I'm sure Lady
