Yu Yuan narrowed his eyes as he looked at the khaki card in his hand, which was extremely similar to a Fate Card and bore the words [Inside Information].
The appearance of the [Inside Information] Card pleasantly surprised him. An item that provided intelligence on specific events would be immensely useful to him.
There were simply too many things he wanted to understand.
The division of the marauder factions, the differences in their strength, the hostile relationships between them, the locations of the rooms corresponding to the bald man's three keys, the location of Brother Biao's hotel keycard, and so on.
But Yu Yuan also knew that he only had one [Inside Information] Card. He had to save it for a critical moment if he wanted to make the most of it.
At that moment, on the Fate Card page of the virtual screen, the book beneath the wooden box holding the Fate Cards—something Yu Yuan had initially assumed was merely background decoration—opened up. Each page had four card slots.
The [Inside Information] Card vanished from Yu Yuan's hand and appeared in the first slot on the page, fitting snugly into place.
The book then closed and returned to its previous appearance. However, Yu Yuan could sense that he could open it at any time and retrieve the [Inside Information] Card within. Only then did he feel at ease.
A line of words slowly appeared on the previously nameless book—Book of Fate.
Clearly, as a derivative of a Fate Gift, the [Inside Information] Card was inevitably connected to the Fate Cards.
Yu Yuan stopped dwelling on it. There was no point. He needed to get through his current predicament first.
The cost of obtaining the [Inside Information] Card had not been cheap either: a full 500 Survival Points.
Since he was trapped in the Hideout, Yu Yuan did not check the new Fate Gift. He planned to choose one after the typhoon had passed.
After all, choosing a Fate Gift meant completing a Fate Card mission. Under the current circumstances, that was no different from actively seeking death.
He picked up today's refreshed newspaper. As usual, there were two Rock Tier news articles.
[Greenforest City Daily] Date: Wasteland Calendar, Day 4 Weather: Typhoon [Bu Qiuxing] is approaching. The eyewall storm band is currently making landfall. Maximum winds are expected to reach Force 13. The city is expected to enter the eye of the typhoon at around 11:40 a.m., lasting for four hours. Temperature: 22°C–28°C Publisher: Wasteland Fate News Agency. [Neighborhood Life Section] Quality: Rock Tier Danger Level: Low All enforcers of the Black Shield Police Department feared Commander Lawrence—his interrogation methods, as well as his cruelty toward enemies and traitors alike. Under this fear, Enforcer Soda secretly expressed his willingness to defect to Commander Lawrence. At the same time, he used Fries's death to drive a wedge between Lawrence and Carmen. But he did not know that Lawrence had long suspected Carmen of deliberately failing to support Waterfront Street immediately, which had resulted in his younger brother being killed by enemies in the sewers. He wanted Carmen and the people of Marauder Prison to be buried alongside his younger brother. And the person who killed Fries had to die as well.
Yu Yuan was slightly surprised. He had only killed one person in the sewers: the bald man. He had not expected the man to have a commander for an older brother. No wonder he had been so arrogant.
"This Lawrence is a threat too. If he finds out I'm in the sewers, he'll tear up every sewer in the city. Another problem," he noted in his memo.
The other piece of information, the one about the typhoon, also drew Yu Yuan's utmost attention.
"Green Forest City will enter the eye of the typhoon at noon... and it'll last four hours."
This information was incredibly important to Yu Yuan. He knew that no matter how violent the wind and rain had been beforehand, once they entered the eye of the typhoon, everything would immediately become calm. There might even be clear sunshine.
At most, it would take an hour for the rainwater in the sewers to drain away and the water level to fall. That would be his chance to repair the breach.
But the actual situation was far more serious than Yu Yuan had expected.
Five hours later, Yu Yuan looked at the water level, which had risen to his knees, and felt a trace of helplessness.
Beyond the second waterproof wall, everything had already been completely inundated.
An hour ago, he had just found some bricks elsewhere to seal the breach when it widened again. This time, even sandbags could not completely stop the water from pouring in.
In just one hour, the water had reached his knees. The speed at which it was rising frightened even Yu Yuan.
He looked at the time—11:50 a.m.
"At this time, we should already be in the eye of the typhoon. There's still time!"
Half an hour later, Yu Yuan let out a long breath as he watched the water level drop to his calves.
"It's finally... going down!"
But he knew that the real work was only beginning now.
He went to the exit, bent down, and moved aside the blast-resistant sandbags blocking the breach. As the gap widened, the rainwater that had flooded into the air-raid shelter level poured rapidly back out through it.
Yu Yuan saw that the previous breach had now grown to more than four times its original size. No wonder the blast-resistant sandbags had been unable to completely stop the water from spreading.
The water level in the sewer had also fallen to about halfway. He let the remaining rainwater drain away while hurriedly taking the bricks he had found out of Taotao Cave and placing them nearby.
He returned to the Hideout, filled a bucket with quick-setting cement, and went back to the exit.
He had not been idle these past few hours. He had listed the Tactical Sword taken from the bald man on Taotao Cave and traded it for two bags of quick-setting cement and some construction materials.
By the time all the rainwater in the air-raid shelter level had drained away, less than three hours remained before the eye of the typhoon left Green Forest City.
Yu Yuan did not dare waste time. He quickly mixed the cement according to the proper ratio. This time, he had learned his lesson.
Instead of sealing the exit directly, he lay on the ground and reached his arm through the breach. After applying a layer around the outer wall of the air-raid shelter level—the ceiling of the sewer—he picked up the bricks and sealed the gap.
Once that layer of quick-setting cement hardened, it would become a protective coating. It would not last long against the impact of the rainwater, but Yu Yuan would be satisfied if it could hold for even an hour or two.
In less than thirty minutes, the breach was completely sealed. Yu Yuan finally relaxed a little.
"This should mean there won't be any more problems, right?"
