"Ah!!!"
Xiao Wu screamed as she flew backward, her legs kicking wildly in the air.
As luck would have it, she landed squarely on Tang San's back just as he struggled to get up.
The force slammed Tang San face-first into the floor. With a muffled crack, pain shot through his neck. He blacked out before he could even groan.
Xiao Wu was left dazed by the fall, but as soon as she recovered, she scrambled to her feet. Tang San lay with his face buried in the floor, his limbs limp and motionless. Her face went pale.
"Hey! Are... are you all right?"
Xiao Wu reached out to shake Tang San's shoulder. Beside her, Wang Sheng and the other work-study students who had woken up stared in shock.
The dormitory fell silent except for Rabbit Spirit's desperate attempts to wake Little Scumbag.
Chu Chen watched coldly, with no intention of helping Little Scumbag.
As for whether Tang San might die, Chu Chen wasn't worried. Asura had personally sent this boy's soul to Douluo Continent. For all he knew, someone in the Divine Realm had been watching him all along.
How could he die so easily?
Once Xiao Wu confirmed that Tang San was still breathing, she finally let out a breath of relief. Then she looked up and glared at Chu Chen.
But she couldn't hide the panic in her eyes.
"What if you'd killed him?"
"Even if he died, it'd be because you landed on him. What the hell does that have to do with me?"
Chu Chen couldn't be bothered with her. He turned to Wang Sheng.
"Wang Sheng, I dislocated her leg. You can get your revenge now. Do whatever you want."
Wang Sheng swallowed and hurriedly nodded as he looked at Xiao Wu. She knelt beside Tang San, her right leg dislocated and tears welling in her eyes.
Chu Chen had already turned toward his bed. He snatched back the bedding Xiao Wu had taken from him.
After a moment's thought, he tossed it into the corner.
"Oh, and Wang Sheng, this bedding smells like an animal now. I'll give you money to buy me a new set tomorrow."
With that, Chu Chen sat cross-legged on the bare bed frame, ready to meditate instead of sleep. Just before closing his eyes, he added one more thing.
"When you're done, throw those two out. I don't want to see them in the dormitory."
Xiao Wu tried to argue, but Wang Sheng knocked her to the floor with a punch. Just then, Chu Chen spoke again.
"From now on, as long as I'm at this academy, neither of you is setting foot in Dorm Seven!"
Xiao Wu left with the unconscious Tang San on her back.
Chu Chen didn't know where they went, nor did he care. He sat cross-legged on the wooden bed and began meditating.
Meanwhile, outside the staff dormitory at Notting City Junior Soul Master Academy, Yu Xiaogang stood wide-eyed behind his mask, staring in shock at the black-robed figure who had suddenly appeared at his door.
Yu Xiaogang might have been weak, but growing up in the Blue Lightning Tyrant Sect had given him a keen eye.
Though the person before him kept his identity hidden, the faint trace of power leaking from him gave Yu Xiaogang some idea of what he was dealing with.
This man was undoubtedly powerful—far stronger than he was!
"May I ask what brings you to my door at this late hour?"
Yu Xiaogang cupped his hands politely. Short of removing the mask from his face, he had shown the visitor every courtesy.
But the black-robed man had no interest in pleasantries. He asked in a hoarse voice.
"I hear you took on a disciple with Twin Martial Souls today?"
Yu Xiaogang's eyes instantly filled with caution.
Because he had indeed taken on a disciple today!
At noon, Yu Xiaogang had met Chu Chen, whose Martial Soul was a mutated Blue Silver Grass despite his Innate Full Soul Power. Yu Xiaogang had immediately wanted to take him as a disciple.
Unfortunately, the scene he had arranged at the academy gate had been so clumsy that a six-year-old had seen through it. Not only had he failed to gain a disciple, he had been beaten black and blue and robbed of his Soul Tool.
Fortunately, another chance had come along.
That evening, just as Yu Xiaogang was questioning everything, another child had appeared at the academy gate!
He also had Innate Full Soul Power and a Blue Silver Grass Martial Soul. Unlike Chu Chen's, though, this child's Martial Soul wasn't mutated.
The moment Yu Xiaogang heard, he decided this must be heaven's compensation. Without hesitation, he tried the same trick again.
The gatekeeper he had bribed would mock the child and make things difficult for him. Yu Xiaogang would then step in at the right moment to help, playing the part of a peerless expert.
This time, Yu Xiaogang's plan worked!
The same routine had earned him nothing but a sneer and a beating from Chu Chen. From the other child, it earned him heartfelt thanks.
And when Yu Xiaogang delivered the same lines and revealed that the boy had Twin Martial Souls, Tang San was so awestruck that he immediately kowtowed and asked to become his disciple.
It was a tremendous boost to Yu Xiaogang's vanity. In his heart, he had already raised Tang San to the status of his successor.
Born into a prestigious family but left unable to advance past rank twenty-nine because of his mutated Martial Soul, Yu Xiaogang had no intention of accepting his fate.
Whether he left his clan or studied Soul Master Theory, he did it to earn the recognition of others. It had become his obsession.
But that path had not been smooth.
Yu Xiaogang had cobbled together the "Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul," yet no one took him seriously. Disappointed as he was, the result taught him one thing.
In the world of Soul Masters, strength was everything!
Without enough strength, nothing else mattered!
Yet that realization only made him more desperate. With a mutated Martial Soul and innate Soul Power of just half a rank, becoming powerful himself was nothing more than a fantasy.
Finding an exceptionally gifted disciple and raising him into a powerhouse had become Yu Xiaogang's only way to fulfill his dream.
So when the black-robed man brought up Tang San, Yu Xiaogang—who already saw the boy as his chance to turn his life around—immediately felt threatened.
Especially since he had learned that his new disciple's second Martial Soul was the Clear Sky Hammer, the greatest tool Martial Soul in the world!
Everyone knew the Clear Sky Sect had shut its gates years ago. The only disciple still out in the world was Tang Hao, the missing Clear Sky Douluo.
Tang San's parentage was therefore no secret to Yu Xiaogang. And therein lay the problem.
Tang Hao was the man who had killed Spirit Hall's previous Pope, and Spirit Hall was the most powerful Soul Master organization on Douluo Continent.
In other words, as Tang Hao's son, Tang San had inherited the Clear Sky Hammer Martial Soul—and a tremendous danger along with it.
Few people understood Spirit Hall's power better than Yu Xiaogang, the current Pope's former lover.
And so, whether to keep his disciple from being harmed or to protect the person he needed to fulfill his dream, Yu Xiaogang found a rare streak of courage. He looked at the black-robed man with a warning in his eyes.
"He is my disciple. Whatever you have in mind, it is none of your concern!"
"Listen carefully. My surname is Yu. My father is Yu Yuanzhen, the Thunderbolt Douluo and head of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan!"
"I have no children. My disciple is like a son to me. So I don't care who you are—if you dare harm him, I will spare no effort to destroy you and the forces behind you!"
