None of them had ever heard of Li Zi's Myriad Flower Divine Bone. They would have to consult ancient texts for information.
The Fifth Elder's disciples lived on peaks wreathed in mist.
As they flew on their swords, Li Zi could see only the mountaintops beneath layer upon layer of white clouds.
The dense white mist hid every cliff and precipice below—a blessing for anyone afraid of heights.
Li Zi looked around curiously.
Seeing her so childlike, Ji Zheng could not help smiling.
"The Spirit Sword Sect sits among a range of mountains. The white mist you see is only part of the Mountain-Guarding Formation."
"The formations protect the sect, but they also separate the Outer Sect, the Inner Sect, and the residences of the direct disciples and elders, so they don't disturb one another's cultivation."
As docile as a kitten, Li Zi gave Ji Zheng a sweet smile.
"Thank you for explaining, Senior Brother."
Though she was dark and skinny, her face looked utterly harmless. The first hints of a beauty were already there.
If Ji Zheng could not hear Li Zi's thoughts, he might have been fooled by that harmless appearance too.
System, I need to pee. What do I do?
The system's electronic voice sounded faintly exasperated. Hold it. You're a cultivator. Why are you still pooping and peeing? Shouldn't you have given up food?
Li Zi trembled. She was clearly struggling to hold it in.
But I haven't started cultivating yet. I'm still a mortal. Come to think of it, do cultivators really not poop or pee? Don't they eat?
The system considered this for a moment. I guess they neither eat nor poop.
Then do they fart? Li Zi asked.
Oh, there's a juicy story about that. It's about the Sect Master.
Ji Zheng pricked up his ears.
He spent most of his time cultivating with his master. Despite all his years in the sect, he knew almost nothing about the other senior elders.
In his mind, they were stern, rigid, even somewhat indifferent. They rarely paid attention to disciples like him.
He had never expected to hear such different sides of them through Li Zi's thoughts.
All at once, the elders and the Sect Master seemed more like real people.
The more Ji Zheng learned, the fonder he grew of the sect.
Fu Chaoqing caught up just then, eager to hear the story too.
The system cheerfully began. Before the Sect Master became Sect Master, he went to the mortal realm with the Second Elder and Third Elder to hunt a Magic Beast that was terrorizing a village. To the mortals there, they were like immortals. The villagers welcomed them with a feast, and one of the dishes had soybeans in it. The Sect Master ate a few.
While they were hunting the Magic Beast, he let out a few silent but stinking farts. The mortals nearby smelled them, called the smell immortal aura, and spread the word everywhere.
Li Zi bit her lip to keep from laughing.
Immortal aura! Hahahahaha...
The system laughed too. It gets even wilder. One of those people founded an organization, claiming that anyone who could release a gas with that smell was an immortal reborn. Its members went around sniffing farts, looking for reincarnated immortals. They actually found someone, made offerings to him with incense, and founded something called the Immortal Aura Cult.
Li Zi clutched Ji Zheng's clothes, her body shaking nonstop.
She barely maintained her soft, delicate-flower act. Inside, she was already laughing herself silly.
Hahaha... Does the Sect Master know about this?
The system's voice grew louder. He does! When he learned that the Immortal Aura Cult had started because of his fart, he sneaked into the mortal realm and spent a huge amount of spiritual power erasing those mortals' memories. He was completely drained afterward and went into seclusion for quite a while. He told everyone he'd encountered a powerful Magic Beast.
Ji Zheng and Fu Chaoqing were struggling not to laugh.
Fu Chaoqing flew off on his sword and found a deserted spot where he could laugh out loud.
Ji Zheng pinched his thigh, hastily set Li Zi down, gave her a few brief instructions, and slipped away.
Hah!
Was this really their stern, unsmiling Sect Master?
The same Sect Master who was always quoting sect rules and whipping people?
Erasing mortals' memories interfered with cause and effect. The sect strictly forbade it, yet the Sect Master had secretly broken that rule.
Fu Chaoqing could never keep a story to himself. He hurried off to share the gossip with his fellow disciples.
Li Zi stood alone before her desolate cave dwelling.
Seeing how both senior brothers had fled from her, Li Zi clicked her tongue inwardly. They were probably thinking about Ran Zirou.
In the original story, the heroine Ran Zirou had won Ji Zheng over as soon as she joined the sect. Only because he spoke up for her had she managed to become the Fifth Elder's disciple despite her Mixed Spiritual Root.
The Fifth Elder had six disciples, and Ran Zirou was the seventh.
But now Li Zi seemed to have taken the heroine's path instead.
"System, has the main plot gone off the rails? How could the Fifth Elder recognize my special constitution?"
The system was puzzled by it too.
"Maybe the rules of this world are gradually becoming more complete. The elders and Sect Master of the Spirit Sword Sect are all Spirit Transformation cultivators. Logically, how could they fail to see through your special constitution?"
"But Host, the main plot is still moving forward. Just now, Ran Zirou became a servant disciple in the Inner Sect. Several male disciples have already given her pills and spiritual herbs, saying they'll help her improve her cultivation."
Li Zi surveyed her cave dwelling, a place so barren even birds wouldn't shit there, and sighed.
"No wonder she's the heroine. I haven't even started cultivating, and there's no one to guide me. I'm an elder's direct disciple, but this is how they treat me."
She had only just joined the sect. Surely someone should have been assigned to show her the ropes.
Li Zi had no one. There was not even anybody to explain Qi Attraction into the Body to her.
